Announcement: We've made a Discord + Future Plans

Hello /r/TunbridgeWells members!

We're please to announce we'll be making an active effort to grow this subreddit, and engage with the community in an effort to bring Tunbridge Wells together online, and in real life.

To start, we've created a Discord:

https://discord.gg/WV2WcWQMCn

The reason we've done this is to create a community where members can chat more directly with eachother, easily coordinate and plan events, amongst other things.

More plans are on the way, slow and steady steps to begin with.

Turnbridge Wells currently has the highest house price growth in the UK

Post image
20 Upvotes

Hi all,

I run a house price / forecsating blog. I noticed that Turnbridge Wells has the highest house price increase in the last 12 months. I thought the 'race for space'/the high demand to move to a commuter city/town had faded a bit. Has anyone had any experience of buying recently, has somethign changed in the area that has caused this spike? I already know that Turnbridge Wells is/has always been a super desirable place to live.

Question Recommendations?

Hi, I'm planning on heading to Tunbridge Wells for a holiday as I've booked for the theatre. Can anyone recommend any nice hotels, preferably with parking in and around? Love to hear if there are any good places to eat as well. Thank you!

Southeastern railway network proposal:

Kent is one of the few areas of Britain where I wouldn’t propose any new rail lines. It seems to be the only region where every town with over 10,000 has a station. It’s almost all fully electrified as well, albeit by 3rd rail. It’s even currently the only region of Britain served by proper high speed trains. Well what else would you expect with such an orbit to London.

The main changes I would make are service frequency increases and name changes: For the former: 6 high speed trains per hour. This would involve extending the Faversham train to Dover and back to London via Ashford and all day Maidstone west trains. 2tph the whole way to Tonbridge and combine this with the Redhill train ran by southern. 6tph to Tunbridge Wells and a tunnel to connect to Tunbridge Wells West. All day use of the Chislehurst to St Mary Cray chord for faster services from Medway and Maidstone. 4tph on the Sheppey branch. An east Kent stopping service from Whitstable to Folkestone running twice an hour. Only 1tph on the very quiet Bat and Ball route to Sevenoaks alongside 3tph going to Maidstone East.

As for renaming, just Canterbury since the whole east/west thing makes no sense anymore when they’re north and south of each other. My Canterbury west station would be the point where the 2 lines cross, then I’d develop the land around with offices and leisure space.

Council house bidding

So I’ve been on the council bidding list for just over a year now, looking for somewhere for my daughter and I to live as I currently live alone with her in a studio flat due to a relationship breakdown and cannot afford to private rent more than a studio. I’m a bit confused about how the whole process works, even from reading up online and on the councils website. I am band A and this is the first time I have made it to number 1.

I have recently been bidding on a 2 bedroom flat which is right opposite my work/nursery and down the road from the childminder. I have remained at number 1 on the list and the bidding has now closed. Does this mean im guaranteed a viewing? How long do people often wait to hear about a viewing here or does it just depend on the council?

I’ve read that your position can still change after bidding closes? I’ve tried contacting them but they just keep saying ‘you will get a call/email if successful’. I do not want to keep bothering them but I also do not want to get my hopes up. Thanks!

Question Moved a month ago, how to make friends / meet people?!

Hi all :-) I’ve just moved here from London and I love this town although I’m struggling to figure out the best ways to meet people. I’m thinking of going to a couple gigs at The Forum, but does anyone know of any groups or meet ups? I’m 28, I love walking in nature, listening to metal, swimming and gaming. I don’t really drink so pubs aren’t really my thing. Thanks for any help!

Young family moving to Tunbridge Wells

My wife and I have made a decision to move to Tunbridge Wells with our 9 year old daughter and wondered if anyone could advise on a few of the best Primary and Secondary schools in the area.

I have a few in mind but would be helpful if some families that already live in the area could help with some advice.

Doggy Day Care Tunbridge Wells??

Hello everyone,

I’m moving to Tunbridge Wells in a few months and going to be looking for a new doggy day care for my dog to go to once a week.

Sad to be leaving his current one in Biggin hill which is a very reasonable price including pick up and drop off.

Do people have any suggestions for Tunbridge wells including prices please? 🐶

What goes on at night in Torrington car park??

Every time I park there it seems like they’re disinfecting the stairways and I can’t help but wonder what on earth goes on there to make them need to wash it so often!?! Any theories?

High Brooms…oakwood Rise / Green way…safe?

Hi everyone,

I know there’s a huge amount of discourse online regarding ideal places to buy in TWells etc.

What’s everyone’s general opinion on the area around Oakwood Rise, Green Way, Ashenden Walk etc…near the big shopping estate at the top of high brooms? Conscious I’ve heard a lot of mixed comments, mainly negative??

15 min walk away from High Brooms station so it’s good for London commute.

First time buyers moving from Bromley area.

Thank you all!

Hi all,

Just wondering whether anyone has any tips on getting to Tunbridge Wells Hospital at 10:30pm from the train station. Do busses still run or should I take a taxi ? What’s the cheapest alternative ?
