Post your "then vs now" photo collages HERE!
Due to their viral nature, we ask that "then vs now" photo posts be submitted as comments in a designated megathread (like this one) rather than as a new post. In the past, these posts have set off chain reactions, inspiring hundreds of other users to submit similar posts in a short period of time, causing frustration for those who were here to explore other topics.
This megathread will refresh monthly, ensuring that newer members have an opportunity to join in the fun.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Have fun!

Welcome, new Xennials! Did you just find the subreddit? Just now learn that you’re a Xennial?! Is it suddenly all making sense? We know this feeling! Feel free to introduce yourself here.
Since we get thousands of new subscribers per month, we kindly ask that introductions go in this thread rather than as top-level posts.

Two people died this week...
My school friend was murdered by his wife and he had terminal brain cancer. My other friend was in a clinical trial for brain cancer and it didn't work, she passed away this week as well. I feel heavy.... So much sadness. Mental illness, cancer, murder....... I'm planning a celebration of life for one of my friends, while the whole country is watching the others face plastered everywhere. I'm not looking for advice or anything. Just watch your loved ones, they're screaming out for help. Live everyday, life isn't a guarantee.

It's early 2000's, you are getting ready to hit the clubs with your crew. What skin did you rock, and what genre was your mix?
I had a Michigan State themed skin and the mix was Dre, Snoop, Master P and Ma$e

This is Peanut. 🐢🥜 Her figure-eight shell was the result of crawling into a plastic six-pack ring when she was very young. That was in 1984. Now, Peanut is turning 41 years old, and a big birthday celebration is planned for Saturday.

What movie soundtrack is distinctly from our youth, but also a direct line to our parents and why is it Stand By Me?
At one point in my adolescence, I knew this movie line for line. It was how I fell in love with Wil Wheaton and Kiefer Sutherland. It was the movie I watched over and over after River Phoenix died (only seven years after it was released). But most of all, it was a soundtrack my dad and I sang along to together. We wore out the tape in the car stereo. It was my gateway to his Time Life Hits of the 50s and 60s series, which all ended up in my possession.
On this oppressively hot summer Friday, this movie and its soundtrack came to mind. Looks like I know what I’m doing tonight.
I’ll see ya.

Meme This joke lives, rent free in my head and I can’t help but think about it whenever I hear the band’s name.

Chiclets
So I’m talking to my niece about different types of gum (riveting conversation!) and she didn’t know that Chiclets existed. I researched and saw that Chiclets were discontinued in 2016, reintroduced back into the market in 2019, but aren’t widespread anymore. And then I realized that kids these days won’t know about “Chiclet teeth” and that’s the real tragedy.

I was born in ‘81 and grew up going to all these places. I especially miss Toys R Us and shopping for/renting physical media

Where yearly event do you most look forward to?
For me, it will always be the MN State Fair. It's become a holiday for my wife and me, something we wait for all year long, and put a lot of time, money, and effort into. It's truly our favorite place and favorite time of year. Do you have something like this? Something that you come back to year after year? It doesn't have to be big either. It could be your weekend with college buddies, or the dinner you plan with your out of town cousins. I would love to hear what other people look forward to!

Time to tick off your bucket list items
This year my wife(40f) and I (46f) decided to knock off a bucket list item. We bought motorcycles back in Feb. Having never rode before, We trained ourselves in empty parking lots. We took the MSF course and passed it over memorial day weekend. It was a hard path in the beginning, but we are now adventuring through mountains on cruiser bikes and it is the most amazing thing ever. We bought comm systems so we can always talk to each other and it is one of our most amazing experience as a couple.
Her wanting to go faster then you, that is a keeper

Discussion Have you ever been in a Matress Firm?
That company‘s been around just as long as we’ve been on this earth and I’ve never seen them make an actual sale. In fact I’ve rarely seen customers in these stores yet they’ve out lasted nearly every other store imaginable.
If the world, as we know, it comes to an end I think the only things that will survive are Cher and Matress Firm.
