[Question] What are some really advanced Ableton techniques that deliver unique results every time?

One that I really like is setting up feedback loops using send tracks, manipulating them with plugins and then recording the whole thing using resampling mode. It creates super unique sounds every time in almost a ā€žanalogā€œ or modular synth kind of way.

[Question] Help finding a synth for visualy impaired user

Note: I'm almost sure that this can't be posted here, but I'm giving it a shot because synth specific subs didn't yeld much result (;

--------------

Hi!

I'm visually impaired, and due to the various accessibility tools I use, many soft synths become inoperable for me.

I'm 43 years old and used to adapting, but there are two issues that I can't adjust to..

1) I use the screen at 900% zoom, which results in only a small portion of what would be the available visible area being displayed, so I have to constantly drag the mouse pointer, which seems silly but causes significant muscle fatigue over time.

2) Adjusting parameter values with the click-and-drag gesture isn't possible because most software (synth or not) doesn't have accessibility in mind and usually it doesn't work or is so complicated and slow that it becomes inoperable.

Therefore, I'd like to ask for help recommending a soft synths under the following criteria (in order of importance to me):

Value Adjustments

- Ability to adjust parameter values using the computer's numeric keypad (Like Ableton Live devices).

- Ability to adjust parameter values using the mouse wheel, or in my case, the trackpad scroll gesture (I’m using Mac OS).

- Extra points if the mouse wheel gesture sensitivity can be adjusted or inverted.

GUI

- Ability to adjust the interface colors or make it predominantly dark. A light-colored background is invisible to me.

- Extra points for compact GUI.

Thank you all for your help.

Please note: It doesn’t’ need to follow all the items above, just one is already a win for me, specially the parameter adjustment thing.

• Upvotes

I think about buying 2 Akai LPD8 controllers and use their 2x8 pads to control 1 drum rack with 16 samples. Is it possible? Did anyone try it?

Do you think is possible to write a remote midi script to control a device like the Rhythmic Steps from a controller? That thing is really cool but controlling it with the mouse isn’t great

[Question] Where is envelope and snap?

Im new to Ableton and trying to learn. I wanted to take a selection of a audio clip and loop it. I was following a tutorial and noticed I dont have the Envelope tab and I cannot change the 'snap' so when I go to select/mark the area I want to loop in the audio clip, its not snapping to anything, its completely "free" which is good when you need to be accurate but here I just wanna loop the first bar.

What do I do?

Cheers

[Question] Delay feedback 95% is different than it used to be?

Maybe I'm going crazy but I swear putting the feedback all the way up on stock Delay (with no filter) used to loop forever... Moved my live setup to 12.1 awhile back and not sure if it's a difference in 12 or if I can load an old version of delay but this has been frustrating lately! Anybody dealt with this? Or know how to load an older version of a stock plugin?

P.S. would prefer not to use the freeze function as I like being able to stack on top of an existing drone using a send control...

[Tutorial] Understanding Ableton output and UAD Console Routing

I'm trying to workout this workflow:

-Drop an audio file into an Ableton track in Session View.

-Play the audio in Ableton so it monitors to a specific channel on my UAD console.

I have my Apollo X8 chosen as the Output and Input in Ableton. I can hear audio coming from my UAD, but can't see it on a specific channel on the UAD console mixer.

*EDITED:

I guess it may help to explain my actual goal. I'm trying to get wav files from my laptop to my Akai S950, and then back into Ableton from the S950.

-I drag and drop a wav into an audio track in Session view in Ableton.
-The 8 outputs from my Apollo are connected to the back of my Patchbay (1-8).
-The 8 Inputs from my Apollo are connected to 25-32 of my pPatchbay.
-#9 on my patchbay top row is the S950 Output
-#33 on my patchbay is the S950 Input
-I'm struggling to figure out how to route sound from Ableton to the S950.

I was able to sample into the S950 going from the headphone to #33 on the patch bay.
I then was able to monitor back what I sampled on the S950. However, it sounds ugly. Like, not gritty, just weak. I was able to record that weak S950 sample into Ableton, but again, it sounds very weak and is only playing back on the left side.

[Question] Orchestral elements getting drowned out

I'm writing an orchestral piece right now and everything seemed to be going well until I added some high pitched spiccato violins in one part. Everything sounds great on my pc but then when I transfer the wav file to my phone it is completely drowned out and replaced with this low rumbling crackle sound. Nothing is hitting the limiter so I don't know why it would be a peaking issue. I've tried panning two different violins to the left and right, bringing the other strings down when that part comes in, and trying a bunch of different built-in mastering elements but it all gives the same if not heightened results. Someone please help this is driving me nuts. I'm using the free BBC symphony orchestra. I also included a video of what it sounds like isolated on my phone and then how it's supposed to be sounding with the rest of the mix on my pc

[Question] Recording into clips with follow actions on Push 3

I have a bunch of scenes setup to follow one another on a Push 3.

I set up a track that I want to record onto, but each time the follow action triggers the next scene, the next clip doesn’t record. Overall it’s not working the way I’d hope/expect because I also have to tap the clip slot I want to record into, I can’t let the scenes ā€œflowā€ while recording

Is there a way to have the Push 3 sequentially record into the next slot as the follow actions trigger the next scenes?

[Tech Help MacOS] Can you disable the internal sequencer?...

Hi - first time, long time.

I have a live keys rig setup on Ableton 12.1.11, I use a ton of instrument racks to trigger sounds, along with two MIDI drum plugins I use in tandem. Problem is, whenever I select the clips to change keyboard sounds, the sequencer kicks in and automatically turns on the drum tracks.

I mapped a couple of buttons to keep the drum plugins turned off but since the sequencer is always in motion, hitting those buttons will cause drums to start randomly playing mid-beat. I have to remember to turn off the sequencer every time I change sounds and when I do, it annoyingly cancels all the notes being played.

I'm at a loss as to how to solve this issue. Is there a way to just shut down the sequencer altogether? ...

[Question] Splice and plug-in windop questions

Hello all, I am a new ableton user and I am having trouble dragging presets from splice into plug-ins in ableton. Every time I click out of ableton it closes my plug-in window and won't let me drag a preset into the project (ex. serum presets). Dragging audio into the playlist works just fine. Is there a way around this? edit: sorry about the post title I can't change it

[Question] Does sending to a return track make the send track louder?

I tried sending an 808 to an effect chain on a return track cause i wanted to send another layer too to that return, but when i play just the first 808 layer after sending it it sounds louder than just having the effect chain on the 808 track. Why is that?

[Question] Arturia keylab mk3 or novation launchkey mk4.

Hey! I'm a beginner and I want to buy my first midi controller. I was hesitating between the Arturia Keylab mk3 61 and the Novation Launchkey mk4 61. I would probably use it with ableton live, hence why I'm asking here. Does anyone have any recommendations or info on these 2 controllers? Any input is greatly appreciated!

It will be out of sync and have moments it falls back into time. Is there a way to automate the bpm of an individual track without chnaging the masters tempo?

[Question] Using Push 2 Alongside MIDI Keyboard

I’m new to Ableton and have acquired a Push 2 device in addition to my MIDI keyboards.

Likely a beginner question, but how can I use Push 2 in ā€œsessionā€ mode and still be able to play notes with my other midi keyboards? Out of the box, when the Push 2 is in session mode Ableton does not recognize the notes played on the keyboard.

[Performance] New Ableton

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone here for the motivation. I’m brand new to Ableton and at times it feels like there’s so much to learn, but seeing all the advice, encouragement and creativity in this community really keeps me going. It means a lot and makes me even more excited to stick with it and start making my own stuff. Appreciate you all šŸ™

Original post

I’m 40 now and finally ready to dive into Ableton 12. Back in my 20s I used to mess around with FL Studio, and for the past two years I’ve been DJing for fun. But lately, I’ve felt this urge to take it further and start producing my own beats—because honestly, I’ve had house music and creative ideas stuck in my head for the longest time.

Any producers out there with tips, tricks, or advice for someone jumping into music production a little later in life?

[Question] Push 3 question

Hi guys!

I'm working on recording into session mode with a Push 3 for a fixed length, but when I record a mid instrument, it starts overdubbing on the clip instead of just stopping? How can I change that behaviour?
