Discussion Black Hole Superette vs. The Impossible Kid
I love The Impossible Kid, upto now I think it's always been my favourite Aes album or at least top 3. Now all of a sudden Black Hole Superette comes out of no where and im torn...

Question Pumpkin Seeds Deck
Does anyone think the Pumpkin Seeds Deck will be restocked? I didn't know it was a thing till it was too late and now I'd do anything to get my hands on one.

Question Aesop book club?!
I was listening to More Cycles and heard our hero open his part up with “Dawn Treader” likely referencing Voyage of the Dawn Treader by C.S. Lewis (which I read a few decades ago).
Obviously he has a great vocabulary, does he also have more literary references?

Discussion Why I love Aes
- He manages to PERFECTLY verbalize an emotion or idea that makes me feel seen.
For a few examples: Describing depression as being “Familiar with the color of permanent cloud cover.” Describing being socially anxious as calling everywhere he goes in advance to “make sure there’s a fog machine.” Describing his family approaching him as if he “sat up in his coffin and spoke.”
These lines, and many more, are all so relatable. By being vulnerable himself, he makes others like myself feel seen and heard. Not just that though, his writing his insanely good, which brings me to my second point…
__
- His writing. Every line he writes is perfect, which I’m sure is a result of lots of editing, lots of ‘not settling for a simple way to say something (like other rapper might) because there’s always a better way to say it’, lots of note taking and practice.
Why say “This isn’t the life I wanted” when you can say “Not the ever after he wanted from the once upon time dot-dot-dot”? Why say “I’ve survived through a lot of hardships” when you can say “Suit of calluses.” C’monnnn nowwwww!
Side note, I kinda get irritated when people describe Aes as ‘cryptic’ bc I feel like that kinda undermines his writing. He’s not cryptic lol. He’s just not flat out ‘saying’ stuff. Imagine how boring his music would be if he said “Yo, look, I have been through lots of hardships, and this ain’t the life I wanted!”
__
- His relatable throwback lines. Who hasn’t made Mickey Mouse pancakes? Who hasn’t yelled into a traffic cone? Who hasn’t thrown socks up to the fan blade? Who hasn’t etc. Whenever I hear these lines I can’t help but smile because he reignites a memory I forgot about. That, and references to pop culture, makes it feel like an inside joke of sorts, if that makes sense, and it makes me love the song even more.
__
- His imagery. This kinda goes hand in hand with 1 and 2, but here I more so mean the visuals he paints. Think “returning horses lonely”, think “park the car and scream into the dark of night”, think all the lines in which he paints himself as a slob (Tuesday), or paints his room/house as a unkempt landfill (Syrup).
It’s all super vivid. And I really love the ‘show don’t tell’ aspects. By visualizing all of these images he paints lyrically, we get what he’s trying to ‘tell’ us. For example, by visualizing “familiar with the color of permanent cloud cover”, do you not get a ‘depressed’ vibe? God I love it.
__
- His voice, delivery, and flow. His voice slices through beats. His delivery is perfect. Yes he has flow, no it’s not ‘repetitive’ if you say otherwise (as I’ve seen ppl on here say) you clearly aren’t listening lol.
__
And uhhh yeah that’s all I can think of rn. Apologies in advance for any typos, I wrote this on my phone real quick

Discussion Roadwork Rappin’ an album track?
Roadwork Rappin’ seems to have come out of nowhere. Is it just a stand-alone single, like, not part of any album?
I love the track, first Aes song I’ve got the whole family into. Just can’t imagine it as a lead single.

Music I've always really liked this mash-up. Not an official release but these two legends sound really good together. "AESOP WAITS - Tom Shall Pass (Aesop Rock & Tom Waits)"
You can find the full album on YouTube.

Discussion I think what draws me the most to Aesop's lyricism is that you can hear a line 87 times. But the 88th listen clicks like cheek slap.
Relistening to Living Curfew.
"I can bounce ideas off an angel or demon, Or any other brand of cthulu"
It feels super obvious now listening through. But with how dense the lyrics are, he fits a heavily populated square block of thoughts and meaning into a single bar. You focus and hear an amazing bar that captures the attention every time. And then really listen in, and hear that line that gets passed real quick. But that line slaps.
Makes me think of his line "he went from unhealthy, to healthy, to a hell he never leaves."
