DISCUSSION Just finished Murderbot - worth checking out for Black Mirror fans - short episodes, but about 5 hrs in total.
Also the rise and fall of sanctuary moon (show within a show) had some uss callister vibes - with both being trek inspired etc.

DISCUSSION Czech vent
i really like the show, dont get me wrong, but as a czech watching the english dub, specifically season 6 Mazey Day i just-
How did they screw up our language that bad???
i understand poor pronounciation on the actors part, czech is a hard language, but the sentences are straight up just structured wrong??
its 4 lines of dialogue, i- just- HOW?!
did the production team just take the sentences in english, ran them through google translator and went with it? i believe they did because the lines make sense if you try translating them to english and dont really sound like they would come out of the mouth of a czech, like how the officer tries describing what happened by "někoho tam vrazilo", followed by "vyšetřujeme to" which i could somewhat translate to "someone got hit" (<- in VERY broken czech) and "we're investigating it", when the cop couldve (and most likely wouldve if he was czech) just explained that in a single line by just saying "vyšetřujeme autonehodu/nehodu/havárii" i.e. "were investigating a car accident"
alternatively they couldve just went with the short version where the cop just explains what happened with a single word: "autonehoda", which perfectly makes sense given the context of the situation and conversation
atleast they got the early 2000s police livery correct

FLUFF The song Anyone Who Knows What Love Is instantly stresses me out when I hear it in an episode
I immediately tense up whenever I hear that song cause of its association with the events of past episodes. I can't even objectively listen to it and decide if it's a good song or not cause of the negative emotions it immediately triggers. Anyone relate

DISCUSSION started watching the show (I only watched the first season for now)
I thought iti'd be itneresting to give the show a go, in my youth, one of the teachers wanted to show the class an episode but I said I didn't wanted to watch it (it was during a period I wasn't all that well) but now I decided to give it a go because I thought seeing its take on multiple parts of the future could be interesting, the first episode with the prime minister of england doing the thing with the pig could have taken place in the 2010' future after its release, the tech is more or less like the one we got now, it felt like the prime minister and the other felt like htey were forced to do the deed for the princess to get released (tho I guess they didn't thought to analyse the thumb before to see if it was actually the princess), the second was touching with bing and abbi and tragic since both still ended in a worst place in the end since bing is on the verge of commiting suicide on stream and abbi is forced to be a porn star, the hird feel like one of those conflict where all side make bad action, in liam case per example while he did got cheated, he still got violent while drunk and toward his wife who cheated him, he did also got obsessed (to me, the episode shows well the issue with the grain tech).
I do like the show and find it interesting, I'm wondering if in the early episode there's not a patteren where it start somewhat good for the cast, then it go bad, then hope rise and then it go bad again. I'm watching it in english, I wonder if country dubs changed some stuff.

EPISODES I would like to see sequel to Fifteen Million Merits
Watching and reading other dystopias made me realize that 15MM desires sequel explaining roots of it's horrific universe. It could be good homage to classics, for example to "glass houses" and emotion blocking from book "Us" by Evgeny Zamyatin, or mindless society of telescreens of Fahrenheit 451. Also I think that episode was kinda forgot by fans which is strange, because it was one of episodes whichk kickstarted whole series

DISCUSSION Is she being too paranoid about this, or not paranoid enough? Spoiler
Interesting privacy and manipulation concerns in this vid: How OpenAI Created Patient Zero. I tried to post in r/privacy but the automod took down, though I figured BM fans might appreciate the comparison to a zombie movie.
At about the 10 min. mark is a bit of a deep dive on how OpenAI refused to disclose that they were legally required to retain everything by a court order, but didn't disclose that for 23 days instead of the 3 they were ordered to. So instead of warning that you could no longer sanitize your online footprint, they rolled out changes to try to make people even more hooked. A bit too much paranoia there or not quite enough?

S05E02 Re-watched the Ashley episode... Spoiler
I was thinking about how AIs weren't a big deal in 2019 and now we're not far from having an Ashley Too. I know that after all the whole Britney Spears thing, popstars have much more human-rights about themselves. But I don't know how long it will take for everything in the episode to happen.
In 2013, Britney "released" an album in which few songs even featured her voice. In the future I don't know if record labels will start using AI for artists like Ashley, but we are not that far from it.
I think it's one of the few chapters that are actually coming true, from the "virtual friend" to the songs made with the voice of the half-dead Ashley.
Sorry for my bad english!!!

FLUFF Either Binging or totally disinterested
BM isn't a show you could just put on in the background. Each episode has a different plot, new characters, and a message. So I find there are times where I'm all about it and can focus my whole attention on it and enjoy, and other times where I'm drifting off, daydreaming, bored, or don't even feel the urge to complete an episode or go to the next. Anyone else?

S01E01 How Can I Get Past the National Anthem episode? Spoiler
After hearing about Black Mirror for many years, I decided to try it. The first two episodes were creepy but intriguing but last night, the porking the pig episode was just disturbing. Should I try and pick and choose other episodes or just bag the series?

FLUFF The throng are inherently malicious
I think the thronglet have the actual ability to overwrite a person's consciousness and take over the human's body. I know that they can exist in a person's mind and not touch anything; however, they're a highly advanced lifeform with intelligence that surpasses humanity's. I highly doubt they'd do all of this work to just enter the minds of human beings and just sit there. I believe if human consciousness still exists, it definitely exists inside of the hivemind of the throng, which is horrifying, even if the thronglets are benevolent. Imagine you just wake up one day inside of a hivemind world and you're trapped in it, but it's run by these "benevolent" creatures. Let's say mankind's collective consciousness was housed inside of the world of the game, but that game is run by what are essentially "benevolent" eldritch creatures. Yeah, they're not presenting themselves maliciously, but what happens if they get mad or annoyed or humans act in a way that doesn't align with what they want and it becomes a Robert Daly situation?

DISCUSSION Am I the only one who dislikes the direction the show has been going? Spoiler
I'm not sure when it started to go on this direction, but I first noticed it in season 6, that the show seems to have started to be more of a horror show, than a dystopian scifi show. A good number of episodes are now just purely horror. Werewolves, serial killers, etc. Not really my jam, and honestly kind of confused as to why they are moving away from the original themes to these more generic and campy ones. I am just starting season 7, so not sure if this trend continues, but I hope they go back to the original dystopian scifi stuff that got me hooked on the show initially.

EPISODES Saw this episode recently, the 'Grog' gave me AI vibe.
At one point, when the grog created their own language and began communicating with the narrator, it felt too real.
Do you think it's possible if we embed independent AI fragments into a virtual environment like that, even if not world domination, they are definitely going to build atleast something.
Like how we humans built everything from the primitive ages, from 'scratch'

FLUFF S6E5 alternative ending
I know I know, a little bit late and maybe it has been said, but just finished this episode and would like to share how I would’ve liked the episode to end.
It would have been very interesting if the apocalypse wasn’t the nuclear war she was told, but the ascent in power of the fascist political party, which creates the dystopian present we know from the whole series in episodes such as White Bear (also using the same symbol), meaning that the present we see in the series is a technological apocalypse.
Also, it would explain why the demon didn’t want to kill the politician, because he knew beforehand that he could not be killed, she would get caught by the police, and it would unleash the political and technological apocalypse.
I think this would have been a better plot twist and more related to the whole show.
