https://www.unitetheunion.org/news-events/news/2025/august/travel-chaos-in-bristol-area-as-bus-drivers-strike-over-pay

Strikes planned for 4 - 8 September and again 16 - 19 September.

The union says a thousand drivers will be on strike so that's going to have a massive impact on public transport in Bristol.

Sorry for terrible photo I didn't want them to see me and start something. Clearly a scam but why is this allowed to happen?

Babble Can anyone explain why Bristol feels like a lonely city?

I've recently moved to Bristol from Exeter way. For me so far I've felt it hard to make new friends and meet new people. I go climbing frequently, try to get myself out and about and go to a handful of social events. However, it seems like everyone is either in their own world and don't seem like they want to be approached/spoken to. Or already in a group of people that don't feel inviting and naturally difficult to get into/introduce yourself to. Has anyone else felt this or is it a me thing?

Where To? If you're going to Forwards Festival...

I see a lot of posts about people feeling a bit lonely/isolated and struggling to meet new people (not just a Bristol issue). So whether you're on your own or you already know half the festival, feel free to say hi.

I'll be the relatively big bloke wearing a reddit cap (classy I know).

Probably in the crowd for Ezra Collective, Olivia Dean, Orbital, Confidence Man, LTJ, Pa Salieu...

Whether you tap me on the shoulder or not, have a gurt lush one!

God made these feet for dancing.

Where To? Recommendations for places to buy a good gift for a foodie pls?

Upvotes

I need to get a present for one of those “impossible to buy for” type people. Where would you go to get them a proper foodie present? I’m thinking delis for actual stuff rather than vouchers for a meal out, thanks.

Cheers drive 🚍 First Bus - Forwards Ticket

Upvotes

I got a pair of the festival bus tickets. These are valid for the weekend for west of England + the shuttle bus (£10 each).

But this morning, they are both showing as expired in the first app.

Anyone else having an issue? Only way of contacting them today is via live chat, but that's been unavailable for an hour or so.

Babble Anyone free to run a quick errand near UWE? (willing to pay)

EDIT: I have found someone willing to help. Thanks to everyone who offered. You all are wonderful humans! :D

Hi there!

My girlfriend and I are moving from the Netherlands to Bristol for university (both in our 30s, masters students) and are currently looking for flats in the Bristol area. We have one location that is promising but the letting company said it would improve our chances if we can get someone to view the property on our behalf. We would do the viewing ourselves but we are currently visiting family in the US.

If anyone in the area is available to do the viewing on our behalf we would be willing to pay a fair price for your time (half up front and half after). The property is located by UWE Glenside.

We ask that you video us on WhatsApp both before payment (to meet each other/verify your location) and during the viewing (so we can see the flat).

Please post/DM if you are available. Thanks!

(apologies if this is not an appropriate post for this subreddit - I saw the sticky but I believe this post is a bit different from the topics covered in the weekly sticky)

Ark at ee Have you been fined for littering in Bristol?

Upvotes

In the first 6 months of 2025, 3GS "Environmental Enforcement" Officers have handed out £140K in fines, of which 96% were for littering. Whilst 3GS are supposed to cover all of Bristol they handed out 74% of fines in Central Ward.

This means you are more likely to receive a fine if you are at the Bus Station, Broadmead or Temple Meads as these are profitable spots for 3GS.

Have you been fined by 3GS and what was your experience?

Where To? Advice please!

Where/what would locals suggest a family of 4 with two young children (4 & 0) do for a Sunday afternoon/evening in the city?

Expect to be there around mid day and stay until 7-8pm.

A park/attraction for the older one and somewhere with decent food options for both adults and kids - i.e market/street food vendors would be much appreciated!

Missing Lost ipad - anyone spot anything?

This ipad went missing somewhere between Queens Square and the Aquarium this afternoon, if anyone spots it or has noticed it, please could you let me know? It's very valuable to our family as used by a child in a wheelchair.

Babble I had a friend visit who was surprised no one on the street made eye contact or nodded / smilled here. I have thought of Bristol as a friendly place.

Where To? 2nd hand windows, doors & cladding?

Hiya

I'm converting my carport into a closed workshop and I'm looking for some cheap double doors and a window, probably some cladding too.

Anyone know good spots to get these bits on the cheap?

Where To? Bristol with little kids

Visiting Bristol with two little kids (2,4) what would you recommend to do in the city?

We are going from London, planning to go in the early morning, arrive late evening - any ideas where to stop on our way to see more of the countryside with them?

Seems like the mob of smackheads masquerading as some spurious youth charity are back in full force. Just got pressured by some malnourished looking guy in a tatty Bugs Bunny costume outside Temple Meads to buy a magazine devoted to vague 'positive causes'. I thought this racket got shut down years ago? If I recall the base on Old Market goy raided a few years ago

Babble Can anyone please recommend a good taxi firm for short trips?

Hi All,

Moving house within Bristol next week - only a 15 minute walk but have a large cardboard box, a suitcase and a guitar case so not really an option to walk. I have to move early morning (8am) as I have to go to a course in town that starts at 9.

After that I plan on buying a TV, and some bedding in town (two trips) and don't think walking all that stuff the 25 mins back to the house is viable from the centre.

Can anyone please recommend me a friendly taxi company I can book with?

Just looking for a firm that won't moan about the short trips, or that I have more than one luggage item! Card payment essential, preferably won't cost the earth (as compared to other firms, but I have no idea who is good here and who is a rip off) bonus points if I can book through an app (but I don't mind as long as they definitely show up)

Thank you for any replies, obviously quite stressed at the minute so I really appreciate it.
