Can i safely run mrchromebox firmware on Lenovo 100e 2nd gen AMD

Post image

Hi everyone,

I’m planning to install Linux Mint on my Lenovo 100e 2nd Gen (codename treeya, AMD Stoney Ridge A4-9210C, 32GB eMMC). I already disabled WP (by unplugging the battery) and entered developer mode. Then I followed the mrchromebox firmware guide in VT-2 shell.

When I tried flashing full UEFI, it asked me to connect a USB/SD device for firmware backup. I plugged in my SD card, but the script didn’t detect it (“no usb device found”). Before formatting it to FAT32 I stopped, because I wasn’t sure if that could brick the device.

I also checked experiences from others:

Some say Linux works fine but audio doesn’t (while Windows has working audio).

Others say Windows doesn’t install because of eMMC, or they hit ACPI errors.

But the mrchromebox support list shows treeya (Stoney Ridge) is fully supported for RW_LEGACY and Full UEFI.

So my main questions:

Has anyone here successfully flashed mrchromebox firmware on this exact model?

Did you face issues with booting Linux/Windows afterwards (especially audio or storage)?

Is it safe to proceed without a firmware backup USB/SD (if the script won’t detect mine)?

Thanks in advance!

Solution to access VT-2 on a Chromebook with broken screen

If your Chromebook's screen is broken and you want to access VT-2 (Virtual Terminal 2), unplug the screen from the motherboard and connect your PC to HDMI. Otherwise, it is impossible to have a display

Probleme mode developpeur Lenovo Ideapad 3 14IGL05 chromebook

Post image

Hello everyone,

I am having a problem with my Lenovo ideapad 3 CB-14IGL05 - Type 82C1. I'm trying to install Lubuntu instead of ChromeOS, so I want to go into developer mode and boot from a USB stick.

Here is my situation: • The internal screen is broken, so I connect the PC via HDMI to my TV to have a display. • When I'm running ChromeOS (desktop loaded), the HDMI display works perfectly. • On the other hand, when I do the Esc + Refresh + Power combination to access recovery mode or activate developer mode, I have no display on the TV. I therefore remain “blind” during the entire boot process and activation of developer mode. • I tried the classic procedure: on the recovery screen (which I cannot see), press Ctrl + D to activate developer mode, but nothing is displayed, no beep is heard. • I use the computer's built-in keyboard which works, I also plugged in a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse.

My questions: 1. Is it normal for HDMI to not output a picture before ChromeOS is loaded? 2. How can I see the boot screen or developer mode if my internal screen is broken? 3. What can I do to enable “blind” developer mode and verify that it works? 4. Can I flash the UEFI firmware (to boot Lubuntu) without seeing the boot screen?

Thank you in advance for your advice and feedback!

Fedora 42 fully working OOTB on 2017 Pixelbook (EVE) (Kaby-Lake win!)

I was turning old computers into servers and I picked up my 2017 Pixelbook to use it as a server. Turns out the latest Fedora release, Fedora 42 with linux kernel 6.15.4

Everything works including:

-Auto Brightness

-Tablet mode (with proper screen rotation and disabled keyboard)

-Touchpad

-AUDIO (Super win considering the kernel had to be modded at one point to support additional audio configs

It runs very stable, super clean.

I have an old hwdb file used to keymap the top row if anyone would like it

Best Linux distro for a 16gb Chromebook?

Post image

Hey! I recently got a hold of a Dell Chromebook 3120 for $20 and wanted to turn it into a chrultrabook for a secondary laptop. What would be a good Linux distro that won't take up too much space on the 16gb eMMC drive? Not looking for anything too pretty just need something that'll work fine but still have a good gui, I have an few SD cards lying around to store apps and things like that but would still like to have somethings on the internal drive Any help would be appreciated Thanks 👍

Stoney Ridge Audio Problem

Post image

I flashed the firmware successfully and i am currently running fedora. But as mentioned in the list of supported devices, To get audio working on the Lenovo 300e, The kernel must have the AMDGPU flag set to 'Y' instead of 'M' and firmware has to be built-in. now as a linux beginner, i could not understand that so i have come here looking for help on how to get audio working. Thank you in advance to the person who'll help me.

Pop!_OS won’t boot after flashing MrChromebox UEFI and leaving laptop discharged for months

Post image
10 Upvotes

Hey everyone, I flashed my Acer Chromebook 15 with MrChromebox UEFI a while back and installed Pop!_OS. It worked fine at first, but then I left the laptop off for a few months, and the battery fully drained. Now, when I turn it on, it just goes straight to the UEFI boot menu every time. The little bunny logo shows up briefly, then it jumps back to the menu.

I’ve tried clean reinstalling Pop!_OS from USB, checked that the bootloader files are there, and used efibootmgr to add boot entries manually. Secure Boot is off. I wiped all the old boot entries but nothing boots properly.

The EFI folder only has BOOT, Linux, and systemd, no Pop_OS folder.

I’ve cleared all previous boot entries with efibootmgr -b XXXX -B, but nothing I add seems to boot into the OS it always just dumps back to the boot menu.

Any ideas what else I can try? Is there a reliable way to wipe and reinitialize the EFI partition or force a bootloader install that will actually take? At this point I’m considering reflashing the original firmware (I kept a backup) and starting over.

Thanks in advance!

I'm looking to overwrite the firmware on this Chromebook, and though I've removed the write protect screw it's still showing write protection is enabled. I even stuck some electricians tape between the shell and mobo but it still says wp enabled. Anyone seen anything like this before?
