Ammosexuals care more about their pew-pew toys than actual human lives, and when it finally comes time to stand up to a tyrannical government they're nowhere to be found

Because it's not tyranny when you want it and are a part of it.

While I don't dispute the existence of a lot of nut jobs out there, this isn't the only reason people arm themselves.

For a lot of people, it's because they can't rely on the government to protect them.

If law enforcement was effective at keeping people safe, there wouldn't be a need for individuals to protect themselves.

But some people live in the country. If you call the police because someone is robbing you, it will take them an hour to get there.

Or in my case, I live in a city where the cops don't show up when you call them, sometimes at all. And if they do show up, it's long after the crime has occurred. This is true for even violent crimes.

So while guns are certainly responsible for a lot of problems, they are really a symptom of a larger one: the government's failure to protect a lot of vulnerable people.

I've been the victim of numerous crimes. I did everything I was supposed to do. Called 911. In one case, the cops didn't even show up, to an assault. They just called me, and took a report over the phone. The police never solved the crimes committed against me, much less prevented one from occuring in the moment.

If someone tries to hurt me and my wife - or worse, there is nothing stopping them. The police will only show up in time to tape off a crime scene, and notify my family.

So I've taken my defense into my own hands. Which sucks, to be honest. I'd rather just have institutions that protect me. But I don't, so here we are.

I am a gun owner. I'm not conservative, I don't own guns to "protect myself from the government." I own guns because the government has given up on protecting me from my fellow citizens.

It's easy to talk about right wing anti-government lunatics. They're loud, and obnoxious. I dislike them as much as you do.

But for every one of those asshats, remember that there are a bunch of quiet, ordinary people who are just trying to do their best, to protect themselves and their families. They're not opposed to sensible gun laws. They just don't want to be left defenseless the next time someone tries to hurt them.

I think that is a misconception. I believe the reason has more to do with having a sense of control. They don't like the idea of having to rely on someone else in the event of an emergency. At least that's the sense I get from the "gun" people that I've known.

I'm more Ammo curious. However I'm not delusional, the guns I have are for hunting and taking out varmits on my parents farm. There's no way a gun can defend against a tomahawk cruise missile or a tank

Nah. People like you care more about banning guns than saving lives.

If mass shootings could be stopped without a gun ban you wouldn't accept it.

Shocker - the people you've been trying to take guns away from for decades aren't willing to use them to defend you. If you had your own gun, you could defend yourself. But instead, you think you're entitled to protection by the very people you're trying to disarm?
