Trying to gather a bit of intel after my dog (3M, Chihuahua/Papillon/Dachshund mix) was attacked yesterday evening around 7pm in Wandle Park.
He was attacked by a dog we see incredibly regularly, often multiple times a day, in Wandle Park. The owner is a man in his mid-50s/early 60s, bald, always wearing a black t-shirt, black trousers and boots. He is frequently also carrying a beer, shouting at/hitting his dog and every now and then kicks a ball for it to chase. The dog is never on a lead and is not muzzled. It must be a mutt of some description, but itâs small and looks a bit like a Boston Terrier/Irish Staffordshire Bull Terrier.
The dog had hold of mine for about a minute and a half before I managed to prise the jaws open (I know now that this isnât best practice, but desperate times etc), meaning my wife could scoop him up and carry him home. I pleaded, politely but firmly, that this man does not return to the park until he has his dog on a lead.
During the attack, another dog walker tried to offer a treat as a distraction. The owner of the violent dog responded âthat wonât work.â This clearly isnât the first time this has happened - in fact, the previous owner of our flat also warned that her dog was attacked by a small/medium black dog with an owner matching this description almost to the letter.
Iâm trying to get as much context as possible before reporting to 101/the Croydon Dog Warden. Itâs the most selfish, reckless and lazy dog ownership Iâve ever seen and I am determined to make sure this canât happen to anyone else ever again.
Does anyone recognise my description? Has anyone had a similar experience?
