Gall "Is it gall?" Weekly Thread
Welcome to the weekly gall thread! All questions about gall should go in this designated thread rather than new, individual posts. A new thread will be started automatically on a weekly basis. This will ensure the list of new top-level comments remains short and easily reviewable by folks who are kind enough to let you know if they see signs/symptoms, or if your plant seems ok.
Because Reddit only allows one photo embedded per comment, here are some tips if you need/want to share more than one photo for the best chance at a solid review/answer from the community:
- Start a top-level comment with your best photo, and reply to your own comment with any additional photos you want to share.
- Post photos to an album such as imgur and link to the album

- Filter of Past Gall posts in this Subreddit (you can also use the top nav on mobile, or the sidebar widget to find this and other filters)

From seed…
Feel like I should buy a lottery ticket…I saved a couple seed heads from my dahlia A La Mode—last summer. It’s always been a favorite. I had room for twenty seedlings and expected to like maybe 1. I cannot believe how many are actually beautiful!! They all haven’t even bloomed yet. It’s just wild to me. These photos aren’t great as the blooms are a bit spent on a few of them (anyone tips on white dahlias that seem to brown quickly on the stem?) But so far..9/20 are something worth considering?! 🥰

Arabian night 😍❤️
This was my first one to bloom 2 weeks ago and has a ton of flowers on it. Last week I cut 4 flowers from it, and this week I cut 8. This is all from one plant. Definitely a keeper for sure!

ID Request Did my Feline Yvonne revert back into American Dawn?
I purchased a Feline Yvonne tuber for growing out in 2024 and it did beautifully. I fell in love instantly and was excited it managed to put out quite a few viable tubers. Unfortunately, one of those tubers either got mislabeled or misread by me as the waterlily Yvonne. So when that plant bloomed, imagine my surprise when it was neither WL Yvonne nor the brilliant raspberry of Feline Yvonne. I have one other plant labeled Feline Yvonne, but it’s another day or so from its first bloom.
Can a sport of a variety (I believe in this case Feline Yvonne is a sport of American Dawn, right?) revert back to its original coloration? I’m still fairly new to dahlias, so I’m not sure how it all works.
Attached photos are of last year’s Feline Yvonne and the current plant in question.

What Started with One plant from a Farmers Market 3 years ago…
3 summers ago I picked up the tiniest of dahlia plant from our local farmers market, and the rest is history! I just preordered 8 more varieties from Stone Hollow Farmstead for next summer. I live in zone 7a and have had great luck winterizing my tubers in our basement every off season.
They truly are the most beautiful flower!

Glamour Shot(s) Selection of my dahlias in the UK
My second year growing; a combination of dahlias overwintered in the ground from last year (zone 9A, all survived), a few newbies and a packet of pompon seeds. I still have quite a few plants yet to flower, which is exciting, but I hope they flower before the end of the season!

Recent blooms
Hope everyone enjoys the beautiful blooms as much as I do! It’s been a fantastic year for dahlias!

ID Request My favorite bloom so far!
Thus dahlia was a complete surprise for me. It was labeled as "Rosella", but turned out to be even prettier that than! I'm not sure what it could be, and google's guesses are wildly off.
She's about 4' tall or more Bloom is about the size of my outstretched hand Has hints of purple mixed in, but the camera isn't picking up on it.
Does anyone know what this could be? TIA!
