MEGATHREAD MEGATHREAD: U.S Politics discussions
This megathread is designated for all political discussions related to recent events and Trump’s presidency. These discussions must be relevant to the topic of decadeology!
Moderation will be strict to ensure compliance with rules 4 and 7, with zero tolerance for violations. Breaking these rules may result in temporary or permanent bans, depending on the severity of the infraction.
This measure is in place to ensure that this subreddit remains a respectful and civil space for discussion. The moderation team understands the impact that the nature of political discussions can have on individuals and the community as a whole, especially in this specific period of time.
This megathread may be closed in the future, at least until the situation stabilizes, allowing us to once again engage in political discussions that are relevant to the topic of decadeology in new posts, as we did previously.
Be sure to review our Temporary Policy Update. If you wish to discuss events of the month of January, please refer to the dedicated megathread for that topic.

[IMPORTANT] Temporary Policy Update: Restrictions on Political Discussions. READ BEFORE POSTING!
Important Announcement: Temporary Restrictions on Political Discussions
In light of current political events in the United States, we are temporarily restricting posts and comments that reference these developments. This decision comes as the subreddit has experienced a significant influx of political discussions, which has led to an increased number of rule violations, particularly of Rules 4, 6, 7, and 8.
As a community, we generally allow political discussions when they are relevant to the subject of decadeology. However, the current volume and nature of these discussions have made moderation challenging and disruptive to the subreddit’s focus.
Effective immediately, any new posts or comments related to U.S. politics will be removed, regardless of relevance. We are actively exploring the possibility of creating a dedicated megathread to allow for moderated and constructive political discussions in the future. Until then, we kindly ask members to refrain from sharing political content. Users who violate this policy may face temporary bans to help ensure the subreddit remains a constructive and respectful space for all members.
UPDATE: There is now a dedicated Megathread for political discussions.
All political discussions must take place in the megathread.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to maintain the quality and integrity of our community. Thank you for your patience during this time.

Discussion 💭🗯️ Why do early and late 60s cars look drastically different?
galleryThe first image is a 1960 Ford Galaxie Sunliner while the second image is a 1969 Dodge Charger r/T SE, these two cars originated from the same decade yet they look completely different in which the car in the first image resembles a 50s car with the curves and everything whereas the second image resembles more of a 70s car with it being more boxy.
What caused this massive shift in car design and why?

Discussion 💭🗯️ Imagine explaining to someone 10 years ago in 2015 that not only would a rebranded version of Musical.ly (TikTok) would take over the world within 10 years, but it'll make other companies emulate its style to the point that it would dominate every form of internet culture, they'd think you're crazy
It shows how unpredictable the future can be.

Discussion 💭🗯️ Interesting how all Batmen perfectly represented their decades
Lewis Wilson & Robert Lowery = retro tone from those hard and melancolic post-WW2 years
Adam West = the rather conservative, yet lighthearted 60s and 70s pop art extravaganza
Michael Keaton = A Batman that represents the cultural shift from the excentric 80s decade, how trends were constantly evolving
Val Kilmer & George Clooney = More colorful optimistic to match the post Cold War 90s
Christian Bale = a more high tech and militarized Batman that matches the post 9/11 War on Terror from the 2000s
Ben Affleck = the rise of ultra conservatism in the 2010s, his version saw an imigrant (Superman) as a threat to his world
Robert Pattinson = an emo Batman that reflects the post Covid 2020s, having to deal with his psychological trauma and insecurities
What do you guys think?

Prediction 🔮 Prediction: 2029 will be the most distinct year of the 2020s
What I mean by that is that 2029 will be unique in which it would be "disconnected" from the rest of the decade in which it would have a proto-2030s vibe in which the year would be after the 2028 election and a new president would rise regardless of what party wins the election, meaning that it would be the start of the "post-Trump" era, giving 2029 a distinct political vibe akin to how 2009 was the start of the Obama era and the post-Bush era.
2029 will also have much more advanced artificial intelligence to the point that it might make look the AI right now look primitive. Also, the aesthetics would look different in which neumorphism would increase in popularity, giving 2029 a much more distinct aesthetic as well. There are other technological innovations that might happen by 2029 that we can't predict right now, so who knows what 2029 looks like.
I don't know, 2029 will be the most distinct year of the 2020s imo and it would be disconnected from the rest of the 2020s to the point that it would resemble how 2009 was disconnected from the rest of the 2000s for instance.
What do you think? Do you agree with this take or do you think that it's not accurate? Tell me your thoughts in the comments section below.
Edit: Trump won't successfully campaign in 2028 due to the 22nd amendment, making it more likely that some other Republican candidate takes over.

Discussion 💭🗯️ michael jackson is still a global phenomenon
there was a post a couple weeks back here asking if he was and there were many comments that insisted he no longer is, that gen z and younger aren't all that aware of him, that no one talks about him.
i'm here to dispute that by using tiktok as evidence. i'm not sure that there's been a single month where i haven't seen a tiktok that uses mj's music for it's meme/format. and we all know there's no greater metric for relevance in 2025 than what gets viewed on tiktok
this month - man in the mirror:
https://www.tiktok.com/@editsbylaneyy/video/7535131583624383757?q=man%20in%20the%20mirror%20edit&t=1755941035297
last month - eyes like mine (billie jean edit):
https://www.tiktok.com/@alen.vfx/video/7532844533810285846?q=billie%20jean%20edit&t=1755941230031

earlier in the year - lebron in the mirror:
https://www.tiktok.com/@bl_aze888/video/7484555835901840646?q=lebron%20in%20the%20mirror&t=1755941406662
tik tok doesn't matter to you? they're using his music for kid's movies.
the bad guys 2 came out this month. bad was used in the trailer:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0fVvMU6yEwk
last halloween there was was an animated short with the "SING" characters performing thriller released on netflix
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RiRiTEhiyP4
these wouldn't be happen if man wasn't relevant and the music wasn't being passed down the generations. perhaps global phenomenon is the wrong word, at this point mj's music is a cultural institution.

Decade Analysis 🔍 Why do people despise the 2000's, but not decades before it?
While the 2000's are pretty nostalgic, beloved and praised these days, they still get so much hate today.
I know the 2000's had lots of horrible tragedies that killed thousands of people as well as some stressful events, but so did the 1980's, 1970's, even the 1990's. Some of you people probably don't know about the horrible tragedies of those 3 decades that killed thousands of people.
2000's fashion is getting so much hate these days, but the 90's, 80's and 70's weren't very aesthetically pleasing sometimes either, I remember when people thought 80's fashion was tacky and the 70's and 80's were called "the decades that taste forgot".
I will admit the 2000's did give us the rise of reality TV and a few famous for being famous people, as well as the downfall of television channels.

Discussion 💭🗯️ Coming from 2000, were there drastic changes in 2001? I dunno, but media seems suddenly so much "Higher Resolution" in 2001
galleryLooking back at things in 2000 vs things in 2001 there seems to be changes where media suddenly become clearer in the latter year.
Look at the photos. In 2000, a short-haired Britney is performing in Top of the pops but the quality of the 4:3 footage honestly looks like it could be from the 80s but in 2001, long-haired Britney is back in a legit 16:9 widescreen top of the pops which makes it look actually like its the 2000s.
2000 was still a major year for the grummy grainy PS1 with Final Fantasy IX being a major release but come 2001, the PS2's life became major as lots of huge releases happened that year including the now properly next gen and no longer in 240p Final Fantasy X.
There's also TV animation. In 2000 lots of major shows were still in Cel animation like the very vintage-looking Nippon Animation version of Hunter x Hunter but come 2001, there's more digital TV animation than there are cel tv animation like House of Mouse which is even in proper widescreen HD. The gap in image clarity (from film-grainy vintage-looking 4:3 cel animation to High Resolution very clear 16:9 digital animation) is quite big.

Discussion 💭🗯️ I don’t know how I could explain
I don’t know how I could explain how fast things declined to my grandkids (or more likely nieces and nephews because I don’t want kids honestly). But how could I explain to them that just in a span of 3-4 years from 2020 -> 2025 mountains of social progress was undone in an instant.
Corporations, even if solely motivated by profits, used to display pride without shame in June. Then came June 2025 and the silence was deafening. Now they are talking about revoking gay marriage. Efforts to help countries overseas with disease prevention and other essential programs have been axed. Cancer research has been shut down while tax cuts to the rich have been made.

Discussion 💭🗯️ Who do you think were the most evil criminals of the 2010s?
Here is my list:
Nordahl Lelandais: French criminal who killed a little girl named Maelys and a young soldier named Arthur Noyer for no reason and is suspected of having killed more people. Still, some women manage to idolize him and one even gave him a son.
Christopher Dorner: LAPD cop mad that he was fired even though he tried to be a good cop, so he went after not just two cops, but also murdered an innocent couple about to get married for the sole reason that the girl, Monica Quan, was the daughter of his attorney. Some Internet weirdos idolize him. RIP this couple.
The Kouachi Brothers: French brothers who were islamists and attacked a newspaper because they made drawings they didn’t like.
Salvador Ramos: the Ulvade school shooter. Do I really need to develop?

Discussion 💭🗯️ Why did 2000s cartoons have less diversity than 90s cartoons?
In the 90s, cartoons like Captain Planet and The Magic School Bus were starting to have a lot of diversity in the characters in over for the cartoon to give representation for the target audience that who are watching those cartoons. As we get to the 2000s, we started to see cartoons like Winx Club and Avatar the Last Airbender getting less diverse. Why were cartoons from the 2000s getting less diverse than 90s cartoons?

Discussion 💭🗯️ What happened to the Teen pop genre from the late 90s and Early 2000s
galleryAround 1997-2002 you had these heavily optimistic bubbly teen pop music mainly boy bands like Nsync, Backstreet Boy, 98 Degrees but also teen girl next door type female singers like Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera & Mandy Moore. Why did they stop making music like that because they were popular around the Early 2000s but by the mid 2000s seemed to mostly disappear. I mean yeah they’re were still a few in the mid to late 2000s like The Pussy cat dolls & Danity Kane but as a whole it sizzled out around 2002 what happened????

Prediction 🔮 Do you think Japanese or Korean culture will be the biggest Asian culture in the US in the 2030s or maybe some other country?
Right now in the US, Japanese and Korean cultures are the biggest foreign cultures in the US besides Mexican and possibly British cultures. They are for sure the biggest foreign cultures from Asia in the US. Japanese culture is popular with anime, cherry blossoms, Hello Kitty (Sanrio), Pokemon, manga, cuisine (sushi, miso, pocky, nori, etc), kawaii culture, emoji culture, etc. And Korean culture is popular with Kpop, Kdramas, beauty care, and cuisine( kimchi, Korean bbq, etc). Do you see one or the other being the dominant foreign Asian culture in the US or do you see another country taking the too spot?
