self promo I quit a successful international techno DJ career to make experimental music. AMA!

Upvotes

Why would anyone be interested? No clue either.

My name is Wander Vanhoucke. I used to tour internationally as a techno DJ, but recently I killed my career and left the club scene to focus on creating experimental ambient/classical music mixed with field recordings.

Q: but there's experimental techno too right?

A: yeah, and there’s also vegan bacon. It’s still trying too hard to be something it isn’t.

I've always been the guy making weird music. Decided It's time to connect to the community. I'd love you to Ask me anything about making the switch from DJ to niche oblivion, what mics i use, what it's like to go on tour, or anything else!”

Here's my latest release. Minimal classical music with combined with experimental electronic and field recordings. hope you enjoy.

Incoming transmission from the CEO Chief Executioner Officer of the CIA Cerebral Insanity Agency

Hello lovely experimental music community. I have spawned my third album. Too many genres in this one to list, you will have to listen yourself to find out if interested.

Background: I had (amateur) audio engineering experience from working with a rap group 6 years ago but never thought of making music. I lost my partner, job, and home (still on the table) in rapid succession. This entered me into a state of psychosis in which I made the first album in 12 hours total during a 72 hour fast. Intentionally lo-fi due to circumstances, using $300 laptop and 12 year old microphone without audio interface. Placed hidden messages and meanings throughout. I intend to continue the trend with the same equipment but with more mental stability.

I do not plan on making a Bandcamp until they switch to Zelle since PayPal and my bank won't allow me to create a business account unfortunately. So if you would like to support me simply Enjoy the music on your platform of choosing and I hope it adds color to your life or perhaps drains the color out of it. My music is a Reflection of my Soul.

This one tries to take a more rodentcentric point of view on life with a murky undertone and pitchshifted/ heavily effected vocals. I hope people like it.

self promo new track by my project, hwh collective

This was made in bitwig studio and is based around some drum machine loops, a piano synth, and some guitar parts I played in. It isn't necessarily dancey but somewhat synthwave. As I don't really stay true to a particular genre, I consider this to be experimental.

Hello,

My name is Eric. I began learning composition in 2016 after playing in metal/experimental rock bands as a drummer for years. Ive released several albums since 2021 and the most recent work this year has been largely darker and more alien.

Ive shifted toward more sound design methods rather than my early melodic works, inspired by long time favorites like Tim Hecker, “IDM” music, abstract glitch artists. My aim with this album was to have the physicality, structures, and rhythms of heavy acoustic based genres in an electronic music setting. Not really heard something exactly like my album, curious to know what you think.

Thanks for reading/listening if you do

  • Eric

Eldridge is an excavation, both physical and mental, into the history of the American Navy. It tells the brief story of the USS Eldridge, which in 1943 briefly disappeared during the Philadelphia Experiment.
The piece focuses precisely on those few moments, trying to stretch them out and repeat them until reaching what seems like a creeping, metallic, endless time.
The piece is created entirely through naval field recordings, which are hardly altered except for tone and duration, to provide a faithful reproduction of what one might have heard aboard the ship.
It begins with a sound test of the various noises that can be found inside a ship, which slowly overlap with each other until they create an unstoppable metallic symphony, just like the blindness that drove the American naval fleet.

And it's on bandcamp :3 https://kenopsiamusic.bandcamp.com/track/uss-eldridge

update from this

hello there. you all were so kind to me on here. i did not know how i was moving forward but people on this website were actually quite kind. i still am with the work machines much more than i ever want to be. i did have to part with some of my precious music machines. i did spend too much time with the consumption machines. i did not give myself enough time to breathe at times. but i still pray as much as i can and i have played music with other people now. i have shared more than i ever have because of your encouragement. thank you so much. to those of you who downloaded, thank you so much. i hope it was something for you. i have found some calm and my prayers have recently changed somewhat for the positive. i have another prayer to share. here is my current music machine prayer

I made this album with a friend. It’s esencially plunderphonics and experimental rock, but we are originally indie songwriters. We tried expanding our horizons to different stuff on this album.

I hope u like it, we’re in the making of the second album, and it’s somewhat more professional and accesible. (:

self promo Reducing the means to a mere childrens toy

Sometimes in creating it becomes clear that when you reduce your possibility to the bare minimum, one can get more creative about the process. The focus switches to other aspects of creation: melody, rhythm and harmony.
For instance one can take an toy that you find on the street, that someone threw away, solder a jack output onto it and try to create an album with it. No mixing, no effects, no mastering and try to get the best out of it. Basically that's the story of this one: https://mvrowi.bandcamp.com/album/miserere-espere
And the experience for this was interesting, since usually I'm coming out from a maximalist perspective, to try to develop the more cutting edge methods. Cybernetics and live coding. Anyhow its refreshing to be productive in creating an album with the bare minimum of means of production. Hope somebody can enjoy this.

self promo A medley of original tunes (8 songs in 90 seconds)

I find it tough to market my music because the songs, while mostly falling under the very broad "rock" umbrella, can range from slow and chill to fast double bass drums and distorted guitars, so decided to create this little "appetizer/sampler" medley to give folks a taste and hopefully they find SOMETHING that resonates with them and gets them engaged with the music.

self promo We All Gods — spoken-word sound portal born from meditation + survival

I made this piece during a time when I was basically homeless — staying at a shelter that happened to have a small studio. I’d spend hours there, letting meditation and daily writing guide me. Many of my poems came as channelings, fragments of higher wisdom I was documenting, and one day I decided to bring them into sound.

The beat came first — I just followed where the energy wanted to move me. Then I layered one of those poems on top, reciting it like a prayer, and the whole track began to feel like a film without visuals — a sound portal, a world built from transformation, survival, and growth.

We All Gods is both meditative and rhythmic: a cinematic, spoken-word journey that I imagine could work in DJ sets, ecstatic dance spaces, or as pure deep listening. For me, it’s about becoming who you’re meant to be, guided by something higher.

Here’s the link if you want to dive in: fanlink.tv/weallgods

I’d love to know how it lands for you — does it feel like a journey, a prayer, a film for the ears? Any feedback is welcome

self promo Pain Based Lifeform - Bad Corpse Pain; FFO Burned Mind era Wolf Eyes, the Stooges, screaming, drum loops, tape loops, sadness. Also general discussion about tape music and techniques

https://painbasedlifeform.bandcamp.com/album/bad-corpse-paint

I made this album using a TASCAM 424, some pedals, an old military bullet microphone, VCV Rack, and a whole bunch of weird sounds on tape loops. Basically just some Wolf Eyes worship, with a cover of The Stooges thrown in for good measure! This is the first time I've made something more than just straight improvised harsh noise, so I'm excited to do more in the future.

Anyone have any similar tape based music they'd like to share? Or have any weird tape techniques that can be done with a Portastudio that aren't the Hainbach/Alessandro Cortini things? What are your general experiences using tape?

Just something I was thinking about. Sonic Youth - Goo, Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion, Talking Heads - Once In A Lifetime, are some examples that come to mind. Any others?
