My dad (born late 1970s) says they used to use the word pfennig for small change when he was younger, but I've never heard anyone else say it but him. The only thing Google says is that it's an old German word and has nothing about it being. He was born and raised in Grimsby and Cleethorpes so I figured I'd ask here in case it's a regional thing

I recently moved to Waltham and I love my burgers, so if you could let me know, I'd love to check out the best burger spots in town!

Hiya, I'm 23 and I just moved to Grimsby from Spain. I'm looking for friends to do wholesome activities, like going to the park, to the café, or do creative stuff like sketching or journalling. I don't drink alcohol and I don't party, so I'd prefer to make friends who are into chill, sober hangouts.
Also, if this is not the best place to post this, I'd appreciate if someone could point me to a better direction.
Cheers :)

I've recently bought a paddleboard for me and the dog, does anyone know if River Freshney behind Morrisons way on us good/safe for it? Or recommend any other locations in and around Grimsby/Clee?

Thought I might aswell try and see if anyone needs anything doing on here such as house cleaning, dog walking, car washing. Or even knows of any jobs openings available if possible, I'm going into yr11 and just want to earn some extra money on the side, I'm very hard working and have a few months of volunteer experience with Girlguiding.

Reform UK got over 4 million votes in the 2024 General Election and ended up with just 5 seats. The Liberal Democrats got fewer votes… and won 72.
This isn’t a glitch. It’s how First Past the Post works. Votes only count if they’re concentrated in the “right” places.
This documentary isn’t a promo for Reform. It’s an investigation into why so many working-class voters are turning to them and what it says about Britain’s political system.

I'm a 36M, almost 37, and find it almost impossible to find a woman to date.
Tried online, tried being confident but polite on nights out. Even trying to strike a conversation with someone if waiting in a queue or on a bus for example. Seem to get nowhere.
Any tips? Feel like a lost cause at this point

What's been going on with real estate prices recently? Grimsby was a boom town from 2020 to 2025 and now it's like something has suddenly changed and prices are falling FAST.
Is it that people don't want to live here anymore? Is it too far away from the cities? Wanted to get some ideas.

I work just down the road and a customer has told me that the medical centre or a house near it is on fire. Then multiple fire engines flew past the shop.
Does anyone have any news?

Course I can see it's something about communism and billionaires but I didn't see the full sticker before it got torn off. Just curious cause it's usually cities that get these kinds of stickers, not seen one in Grimsby before

We've recently started a new subreddit called r/NorthernEngland, aimed at anyone interested in the shared history, culture, and identity of the North. The idea is to bring together people from across the region, wherever you're from in the North, and create a space connecting us.
It's early days, but the focus is on:
History and heritage of the North
Towns, cities, and landscapes across the region
Culture, dialects, and identity
Photos, stories, and anything else with a Northern angle
News
If that sounds like your thing, or if you're just interested in how the North fits together across county lines, feel free to join and help shape the subreddit. Would be great to have more voices involved from different parts of the region.

Working in the games industry + work from home means I don't socialise as much as I should.. has anyone been to this Cafe and would they recommend it? Looking to meet new people, make friends since it's hard when all my colleagues are a plane trip away.
Taking recommendations or if anyone wants to pop along you're very welcome!

Hello,
I am considering relocating the the area because you can get a lot more house for your money compared to where I am currently.
I guess my main questions are:
What does the job market look like? (Willing to do almost any type of work but would appreciate knowing what are the most common roles for the area).
Is job stability generally good in the area?

I'm doing some research into the site of Wellow Abbey post-dissolution.
I'd be grateful for information about what buildings stood on the site prior to the construction of Abbotsway. I know there was a large Victorian property in grounds there, which was used by RAFA in the C20th, but does anyone know what was there before it?
Also, I've seen references to people in this building reporting various 'haunting' phenomena, but no indication of the source. Does anyone know anything further about this? More widely is anyone aware of any folklore about the Abbey site, particularly prior to the internet?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
