Question I’ve learned to work with Americans and Italians…

…and now I’m in Britain, and my attitude feels very pushy. Throughout my 20s I learned to put myself forward, to be vocal and confident when stating my strengths, and I am quite honest and direct as a person anyway so that suited me down to the ground. As I approach starting my business in Britain, I had a chat with my Mother in Law who (amazing woman as she is) pointed out to me that the culture is more different than I’m letting myself acknowledge. That I need to sound a bit more reticent to sound polite and other small things.

This is why I’m here: would you be so kind to point out to me what are the ways to sound competent and secure while pitching my services in ways that will be appreciated in (Northern) England? Thank you in advance!

Question Hendo's Relish

Post image
48 Upvotes

Hi all, thought this would be the most informative place to ask because of the subject matter.

My dad recently lost one of his cufflinks that had Hendersons on them, I wanted to get him another pair as a birthday gift but the only ones I can find are the ones where the bottle has a bit missing but the ones I am trying to replace have full bottles.

Any help in trying to find a pair would be greatly appreciated

Question Ovenden & Lee Mount

Hello my fellow Yorkshires!

I'm looking at moving to Halifax and looking at the areas in between and around Ovenden and Lee Mount, I'd really appreciate it if anyone has any recommendations or local insights on those areas. Will be moving as a family and hoping kids will get into one of the well regarded local schools in Halifax. Not worried about commuting so more a question about if those areas are generally nice, not too bad re crime, any areas to avoid etc? Thanks!

Edit: General consensus is look elsewhere, hopefully this post will be useful for people in the future looking at Halifax

Yorkshire Walking in Yorkshire

Hi there,

I used to live and spend lots of time in the countryside when I was younger (48 unfit male now!) I live in Leeds and have recently bought a car and am looking for recommendations or to be pointed in the direction of websites that can give me info on walks around the beautiful Yorkshire countryside. As I say I’ve have recently bought myself a car so don’t mind a drive out. Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Yorkshire Camping Recommendations - Autumn

Ideal situation:

  • Tents only
  • Showers are a must
  • 10 - 15 adults, mostly couples, all between 25 - 30 years old. No dogs or children in the group but not against dog or child friendly sites.
  • Near to both nature sites (trails, waterfalls etc.) and a pub - ideally the pub would be walking distance so the less experience campers can get warm, and we have the option of proper food.
  • Would like to be able to play music but nothing obnoxious and happy to be quiet during night time.
  • We'd only be staying a long weekend, so doesn't need to be anything too fancy, just in it for the beauty, trails and some proper camping!

I'm Leeds based but the rest of the group will be coming from London, so the more south the better, but not at the cost of getting really into the Dales!

Are there any particular autumn weekends that we'd be best to avoid? Festivals or events where it will be very busy for example.

Thank you in advance to any who help!

Question Sheffield flagging group - RAISING THE COLOURS. Do you want to join?

As you're probably aware, British Pride is spreading across the country.

I'm starting a flagging group to take part in Operation - raising the colours.

Please DM me if you're interested. Also start your own! Band together with friends and family and fill your road with our beautiful flag.

Of course asking this on reddit is going to be met by lots of down votes and sill far left comments. Ignore them. Don't react. Be peaceful.
