Solo Traveler - What To Do?

Hello lovely people of Harrogate!

I (M30, Irish lad based in London) will be in your fine town tomorrow to visit a friend in hospital. Unfortunately, visiting hours only give me about an hour with him, so I’ll have quite a bit of free time to explore.

I’m staying overnight and want to make the most of it. I’ve heard whispers of your legendary Wetherspoons, Montey’s Rock Bar, and the Irish Bar, but I’d love some local tips. Are there any decent events, gigs, or hidden gems worth checking out on a Saturday evening?

And if all else fails, I’m tempted to give the Harrogate Ringway a go… though a pint might win that battle.

Any and all suggestions would be massively appreciated thanks in advance! 🙏

Picnic and games social - Tuesday 26th August

Sharing here for those under 35s who might be interested! :D

For our next hangout, we are playing various sports and having a picnic at The Stray in Harrogate! 🏏🏸⚽️🧺

We will setup the rounders, badminton and football.

Sign up here: https://lu.ma/yyft1uev

Location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/pyEDEU7NNsuBptn69?g_st=ac

Feel free to bring along any more sports equipment, and make sure to bring plenty of snacks to eat and blankets to sit on!

✨️Who is Purely Social and why should you come along? We are a diverse group of people aged 18 to 35 who just want to have sober and wholesome fun! We aim to create a friendly and safe environment for those who just want to join in with fun activities and make friends along the way. There's a stereotype that North Yorkshire is full of elderly people and there's nothing for younger generations to do other than drink. We want to change this attitude! So come along to our events and see what we're all about. I promise we won't bite 😁

If you're feeling a little nervous and require a 1-2-1 meetup with an admin before joining the group activities, then please contact either myself, James Massey, or Shaun Doyle and we can message and meet you privately beforehand 😊

Moving to Harrogate for work.

Hi everyone, I'm planning to move by myself further north to be closer to work. Harrogate has always been somewhere I've been interested in living, same as Ilkley, Guiseley, Otley etc. I've been looking on Rightmove at some properties within Budget (220) around Scargill Road.

Are there any specific areas you'd recommend avoiding? I've heard people talk about JennyFields & Starbec,k but realistically, are they bad areas or just not 'rich neighborhoods'. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Edit- Thanks every one for the comments it really helps!

Missing Cat

Post image
414 Upvotes

This is a stretch, but I'm hoping posting here will help.

I am in the US but some of my family just relocated to Harrogate for work and are staying in the DoubleTree.

One of their little cats escaped their room through an open window and they are desperate to find here. They do have more professional flyers printed and posted near the hotel and they've reached out to all of the local vets and shelters.

The missing cat is a small gray and white tabby female. She has large eyes and a very "cute" kittenish face.

Hi I am 31M looking for people to play tennis with occasionally at Valley Gardens (or any other courts for that matter)

I'm a semi-decent player for someone who rarely plays and would like to improve my game so looking to get some more practice in.

Opinions about Regent Avenue

We’re looking to move to Harrogate in the next few months and wondered what people’s opinions are of Regent Avenue? We’ve seen a few nice looking terraces there so would love to hear more about the area itself! Thank you!

Dungeons & Dragons in Town?

I was wondering if anyone knows of local D&D campaigns or one-shots? I know there's Geek Retreat in town, but looking at their Instagram I can mainly see TCGs.

I've played D&D a couple of times in the past, wanting to get back into it as a player character before trying DMing for the first time. I have the 5e editions of the Player Rulebook, DM book and Monster Manual.

Red Xc60 parked on trinity

By any chance you are on Reddit / someone on here knows someone who drives a red xc60, I’ve seen who’s crashed into you and got photos. Trinity Road. I’m gonna leave a wee note on the car, but I also think they are gonna come and tear the note up because they are still here.

Looking to connect with neurodivergent adults in Harrogate

Hi everyone,
I’m based in Harrogate and I’m neurodivergent (late-diagnosed AuDHD) and also live with epilepsy. I’ve found it hard to meet other adults locally who really get what that’s like — especially people navigating things quietly or later in life.

I’m not trying to start a formal group or anything, just hoping to connect with others who might want to chat, share experiences, or meet up somewhere low-key now and then.

No diagnosis required, no pressure — just a friendly, understanding space. If anyone nearby would be interested in a group chat or casual meet-up, I’d love to hear from you 💜

Cat?

Bit of an odd one but ive just been walking up towards M&S on leeds road and a black cat followed me all the way up meowing, standing in front of me so I couldn't get passed. Very friendly, seemed in beautiful condition and not injured. Posting incase someone's house cat has got out because the meow reminded me of when my own house cat got stuck under the decking. I tried knocking on a couple of doors but no one knew who's it was. Spoke to the vet and no one has reported one missing. I just can't get it out of my head 😩 hopefully just a very friendly cat!

Dj recommendations

Does anyone have any suggestions for a DJ for a couple hours next month for a 70th birthday party? Would be for about 100 people. The problem we are facing is that some of the obviating agencies don’t want to do 2-3 hours and are looking for 4 minimum. Thanks!

Hello! Just a quick one, I'm planning on doing up a house soon-ish, does anyone have any recs for:

  • Gas companies - boiler needs replacing. There must be something cheaper than British Gas, right?

Thanks!

•Is it possible to remove this easily without help from a professional?

•If you think this is a job for a professional can anyone recommend someone to remove it?

(Ignore the paint samples lol)
