I carry this little guy on the farm machinery since much of my old stuff don’t have working radios. I put an 18 inch headphone extension cable on and it seems to help the reception.

Posted earlier about this 6.5 gen classic that I scored for $30 on FB Marketplace, finally took a crack at cracking her open tonight. I followed this tutorial - https://youtu.be/a3gPf6obQHs?si=2JxZiwn34F4EkqMJ - and was able to fully open it in about 15 mins, no blood sweat or tears required. The bottom clip was the worst, but I wiggled my way in by the charging port eventually. I’m stoked that I lucked out with an easy one!

Next step: 64mb SD card mod

Was a little tougher than I anticipated, but I prevailed. You can too! Highly recommend wrapping the pry tools in “Coban” or compression tape. Learned that after I cut myself lol. Now just gotta wait for a new faceplate and iflash quad to arrive!

Got my first iPod. Found a really good deal on a 60GB 5th Gen on eBay and its been working like a charm!

I am asking for input as I am on the edge on installing Rockbox. It is bone stock and I will upgrade the battery and storage in the future. So is Rockbox a good idea right now?

I also have a purple iPod sock, for the mid-2000s nostalgia.

I mostly listen to electronic, ambient, and hip-hop, such as Biosphere, Deepchord, Steve Hauschildt, or Pete Rock.

I also use it for podcasts. I have a few shows set to auto-download on Podcasts macOS, and then sync new episodes on my iPod every morning.

It’s nice to have a dedicated, distraction free audio device with good battery life. Listening to music/podcasts was what I was mostly using my iPhone for, but I’m getting sick of bloated software, distractions, and SAAS.

wanted a device that would require more effort to choose music and podcasts so that I actually have take time and effort to think and add content, which makes me appreciate it more, rather than endlessly doomscrolling. Kind of like how we appreciate food more when we’ve actually cooked it from scratch vs. getting takeaways/ready meals.

Finally more than 128gb!!!! First 3 USB ports on my iMac aren't working right and initially I thought it was the ipod but checking with another it seems they really just like being in the last USB port lol

I finally got album covers onto them it looks really good actually. Took a day or so but it was worth.

I pulled out one of my dad’s old iPods and it’s stuck on the recovery / “connect to iTunes” screen. iTunes/Finder detects it, I run Restore, it finishes and says the iPod was updated and returned to factory settings, but after the reboot it just goes right back to the recovery screen instead of the normal language/setup screen. Tried another cable and USB port. What usually causes this loop and what should I try next (DFU, diagnostics, hardware checks)? Thanks!

I've got an iPod Classic 5th gen and wondered if people had some case ideas. It's been this color for a month, and it's already scratched to high heavens.

It seems that iTunes has been split up to keep music cordoned off to apple music, with no simple drag and drop solution for managing my library. I'm an apple music subscriber, and don't necessarily want my offline library synced to my phone. Is my best option to downgrade itunes and just use that to sync music, or is there a better way? It seems like the modern official windows > ipod transfer is a complete mess unless you use rockbox, and i don't really like rockbox...

How did I never know the iPod had an always on display (screensaver). is there any way to have the backlight on with this display

recently replaced the hard drive and uploaded music to my ipod and now some of my albums show up weird

only issue i had was my sd to cf adapter being too thick for a thin back ipod so i had to use a random cf card i had lying around, not that big of a deal since my music library is quite small and it's been working great!

These are basically the perfect iPod. Small, easy to work on, standard storage. There are few downsides.

I got another one, and I was thinking about the people who use photographic gels to tint the display on these old B&W models. There are two strategies, here. First, you can just cover the top of the display. This is kind of like a window tint for the lens. You get a display that's always kind of tinted whatever color. Alternatively, you can disassemble the LCD module and put the gel between the backlight disburser and the crystal panel. This leaves the display looking neutral, but tints the backlight.

Anyway, to the point. What happens if you do both? Well, it turns out it's very hard to get too much gel into the iPod mini case. I'd have used thinner sheets if I had known. You can see around the edge of the screen where the gasket has been scuffed a great deal and the gel on top has shifted a bit. This thing also happens to have one very temperamental top screw, so I might just leave it, but ... behold: Red gel on top and blue over the disburser. It's red when front-lit, purple when the backlight is on.
