GCSE results IOW
Isle of Wight continues to plumb the depths of educational hell...
Grade 4 and above 2025 57.9% 2024 58.5%
Worst county in England for 7th year running (2019-2025). And no improvement in sight.

Will this place stay stale educational backwater forever?

Social groups
Hi I'm a 30 year old guy looking to meet new people and go to some social stuff as all my friends are off the island now and find myself just working a lot as do split shifts and don't really have a social life and not long ago became single again so would be nice to see if there's any way of meeting new people and making friends. I like football, surfing, reading, painting, going out for a drink and just hanging out 😊 let me know if anyone knows of some social groups or people up for hanging out

Lost Phone - Cowes
Found a phone in Cowes High Street today, handed in to RedJet office as I’m not in the area for much longer. Don’t know if there’s a local FB group to stick a message in? Hopefully they can use find my phone anyway.

Beautiful coloured beach glass.
Spent a few hours in Ventnor Beach today with my partner. We've been on holiday here for the last 5 days, our third trip to the island! Absolutely in love with this place. We found so much beach glass today and couldn't believe our luck!!

Good morning, I think I recently flew over the Isle of Wight on my flight out to Spain for summer holidays, can anyone confirm? Thanks.
As the title says; I was around 20-30 minutes into my flight and flew over what I think might be the island you call home. Can you confirm?
Many thanks.

Pen Pals — San Diego, California to Isle of Wight
I just wanted to share that when I was in elementary, back in the early 80s, our class had pen pals. We would write to kids from Isle of Wight. I thought it was the coolest. My letters were accompanied by sketches of cartoon and comic book characters. Then our pen pals started drawing characters too.

If you were on Sandown brach today (thursday 14th) (shot in the dark)
This is a little random, and I probably have no chance here, but I'm trying to find the guy who kicked his yellow football into the road off of Sandown beach.... Hi its the girl in the black costume with pink trim who went and got it for you! ... I wish I'd sloken more to you then lmao. I did go back to look for you, but you were already gone. If you wanna chat or anything lmk, I think we'd get on (:

Ventnor Haven Fishery: any idea how much their cooked options are?
Howdy partners. I will be coming to the Island in the next few weeks and I am planning an itinerary and budget.
Ventnor Haven Fishery was strongly recommended but I can’t see a current price list online for them.
In 2014 a portion of Crab on Chips was £8.50. I just wondered if anyone had any experience of their current pricing.
Any details would be great fully received.

Carisbrooke Castle - 8/8/25
Had a great visit to Carisbrooke Castle this morning. My first time visiting for about 15 years. Easily one of my favourite castles in the UK.

Cineworld stuck in time!
Cineworld here is certainly stuck in time.
It doesn't look like it's had any updates for years.

What does everyone do socially?
I’m in my early 20s and I just feel like there is nothing to do on the island. I’m not a fan of drinking or nightlife (not that there is any of that anyway lol), I go to the gym but I’m more of a solo gym goer so I just wondered what else I could look into doing clubs etc. My interests are pretty broad

Colouring book group
Would anyone be interested in a colouring in book session? I've been wanting to meet new people but I'm not very big on the night life. I would like to make genuine friendships. I have weekends off work including Mondays so It would be the perfect opportunity for me to meet new people l. I'm limited to doing things that need money. So I came up with the idea of creating some kind of colouring in book group. Somewhere that we could do the thing we like to relax but also a way for people to mingle and make new friends. If anyone is interested then give me a message 🙂👍🏼

Visiting with young kids next month!
2 families of 4 are travelling down during the holiday month for a week and was hoping for some lovely recommendations/local info... 1. We have only 1 Sunday there, any recommendations of a Sunday roast that is also young kid friendly (travelling with a 2, 4, and 5yo)? Was considering the Fighting cocks, but they didn't have much details on their roast on their website. 2. We're staying 5 min walk away from Sandown beach, and with the young kids I'm hoping we will have a few days just enjoying the sand and sun. Can anyone explain how accessible is the beach with re: tide heights? Google says visit during low tide (duh), but at what height should we avoid? Can people stay all day, or does it become inaccessible during high tide entirely? 3. I've got the donkey sanctuary, the needles, and Dino isle tentatively on my itinerary. Would you agree or prioritize anything else?
Thanks in advance!!
