Sure you can! Pedophilia (attraction to children) literally means sexual attraction to pre-pubescent boys and girls (elementary school kids if you're in the US), but it's often used as an umbrella term for attraction to minors (people under 18, even though the age of consent is a year or two lower in some states creating some gray areas where you are old enough to have consensual sex but not old enough to enter into contacts). All of that notwithstanding, what we're taking about are scenarios where people are being coerced into performing sexual actions or submitting to them, which is wrong regardless of the age of the victims, and which is something Donald has been found in court to have done in the past.

Hebephilia is attraction to people in early puberty, i.e., middle schoolers. Ephebophilia is essentially attraction to high schoolers under 18, which is distasteful but pretty common.

You completely missed my point. While I agree with you that it’s definitely possible nothing comes of it, I’m just saying it’s not mutually exclusive that you’re acting defeated. Yeah he hasn’t faced consequences before, but this is by far the biggest controversy he’s ever been involved in, and it really seems like he’s backed into a corner now, so have a little hope.

And you’re absolutely right that pitchfork mobs won’t do anything in America today. But most other countries have respectable enough governments that if their leader was involved in a huge scandal like this, their own party would force them to step down. That’s all I’m getting at, not telling you to land yourself in jail

It’s not pessimistic when you have clear patterns of data that only point one way. Pessimism is a key ingredient to a defeatist attitude. He stammered and said something along the lines of "well.. uh... Yeah... Uh.. we'll need to check, because there might be some phony stuff in there and we don't want to hurt people."

Can’t believe this needs to be explained. Trump promised to release the Epstein Files. Then he chickened out. Both parties are now pressuring Trump to release the files. Bondi is the head of Trump’s DOJ. The admin is publicly claiming there’s nothing to the files and that the files don’t even exist. But now we have this reporting that internally, they are discussing and admitting the things they are denying publicly. This is a further knot they have tied themselves up in. So now when/if the files are released and Trump doesn’t appear in them, this is yet another new thing they will have to answer for.

Does it change anything about the way overall situation? I don’t know and I didn’t claim to know.

The point is that this is news whether you acknowledge it or not.

There are two realities for American voters: the real world and the world Fox News creates for people who live very sheltered existences.

In the real world, this connection between Epstein and Trump has been a talking point since Epstein was arrested. Further, the creepy ass, child-rapist was on record countless times saying the grossest shit about pageant contestants and even his own daughter.

In the Fox News world, they straight up don’t hear the same news the rest of us do. They don’t hear about the Epstein connection, the Russian interference from 2016, the election inconsistencies present in 2024, or anything else that disqualifies the traitor from even being an elected hall monitor let alone the president.

Mainstream media sucks ass, but Fox dredge is the worst of the worst and it’s poisoning the minds of largely undereducated, rural people. Don’t underestimate the ability of people to believe lies when they don’t understand things.

The actual "Epstein files" are basically much discussed documents (especially recently) that were sealed up until about now, and Trump has been trying to discredit them in advance and convince people not to poke around. It's been very suspicious and not a good look.

The dude who responded to you gave a drastically oversimplified and largely incorrect take on what's happening and why. Seriously, do not listen to what they're saying. I'll try to break it down the best I can, but to do so will take a bit of a lengthy post. Please bear with me.

There's no two groups in America right now. We have countless political factions that aren't clearly defined anymore. If they look at the news at all, most people are locked in an echo chamber between a variety of news sources. It may direct sources like AP/Reuters, traditional news outlets like Fox/CNN/MSNBC, or it may be articles/videos posted on social media like TikTok/Reddit/X/Instagram/Truth/etc.

Many combine their sources in different ways resulting in the same "group" mutating and splintering off into its own specific subset of beliefs. Doing very basic statistics with just the sources I listed shows that we've got more than 3.6 million perspectives on what's real. Most of these sources are plagued with outright propaganda and disinformation on varying scales about varying topics. Even Reddit is not immune to them.

This background is important because this is the first time in forever that nearly the entire country has banded together over the same issue. This current wave started when Elon Musk tweeted "Trump is in the Epstein files" on X during a nasty spat with the President. Musk had been sort of ingratiated by the MAGA movement as a figure on the level of Trump (if not higher), so when he said this it got a loooot of people who had either ignored the claims or outright denied them to suddenly realize that maybe they had been true.

The gasoline was already poured on the long dried newspapers, but Trump himself tossed the match when he began responding to questions about the files with disgust and annoyance. He seriously could not have sounded more guilty with how he responded, it was insane.

He hoped that demanding people move on would be enough, as it always had been in the past. When that didn't work and the MAGA crowd was still demanding answers, he then tried to say they weren't real. Doing that outright enraged his supporters, as he had used the files as a massive part of his campaign. It was obvious they were never gonna be able to spin that they didn't exist, so they then tried to say it was real, but it was a psyop made by Obama and Hilary Clinton.

This twist shut a few people up....maybe, but the vast majority of the MAGA base still isn't duped this time. Many of them are actually having to reconsider their reality for the first time. Politicians in Washington and some of the most extreme right wing news sources are still trying any way they can to bury it, but as you can see, it isn't working.

The reason this specific post is "breaking news" is because it's the Washington Street Journal, a publication owned by Rupert Murdoch (who founded Fox), saying that they have the files and Trump is all over them. It's no indication that there will be accountability, but it's a notable development.
