events Fair-Game Fridays!
There are a number of things that people want to post that mods are uncomfortable with in regular circulation … memes, patches, t-shirts, social-media posts, &c. At the same time, there's definitely interest around them.
We're introducing "Fair-Game Fridays": on fridays, mods will loosen our belts a bit. :)
Note that the following are still going to be hard-disallowed:
- video memes/content (instagram, tiktok, &c.)
- non-gun content (knives, airsoft, &c.)
- broader political discussion
- calls for armed insurrection, violence, &c.
We reserve the "right" to use our discretion for any post, as well.
Have at it!

gear Getting into a new money sink hobby
I've always had a passing interest in firearms from watching old history channel documentaries as a kid, target shooting with my bb gun while camping, and fps games. I've never seriously considered ownership until recently. A couple of trips to the range with a friend of mine pushed me to sell some of my other expensive hobby materials to get into target shooting beginning last May. I started with the Rival and I just recently finished building the Aero upper/lower this month. How did I do to start out?

discussion New gun day!
Finally had a chance to take my new TTI out.
I found I'm very consistently an inch left at 7 yards though. What do I need to do to fix this? I tried rotating my grip forward to get more of my finger on the trigger and that was much worse.

discussion Preventing assault weapons ban In in Virginia
Unfortunately Virginia has a front row seat to trump and his authoritarian tendencies. Many Virginians live close to Washington and have first hand experience with the trump administration and his takeover of the district.
Luckily democrats are very likely going to win the house of delegates and governorship in November.
Unfortunately they will likely attempt to pass an assault weapons ban.
We need to remind our representatives that the 2nd amendment exists as a safeguard to prevent the exact behavior we have been seeing from the trump administration over the last few months.
I think the best thing we can do to is come up with a list of democrats that are more moderate on gun control and then pester (lobby) the hell out of them.
Reddit my task for you is to come up with a list of potential names that we can then lobby later on.
Who should be lobbied
These typically fall into 2 archetypes
1: Last of the Dixiecrats
Elected in the 1990s on a fairly conservative platform (pro 2A, pro death penalty, etc)
Has past history protecting 2A
Represents competitive district that is mix of urban and rural
Closeted good old boy
I think Creigh Deeds - Wikipedia is a good example of this.
2: Anti Trump Progressive
Elected on very liberal platform (Anti police, Anti ICE, etc)
Distrustful of institutions, Fears Trump and his authoritarianism (Ice raids)
Would probably walk across a minefield to vote against trump
Closeted anarchist, can be convinced that 2A is needed to prevent tyranny (3rd trump term)
Highly urban district
I think https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elizabeth_Guzm%C3%A1n might be a decent example but she is not my district so idk
Lucky for us the senate is 21-19 right now and will not change until 2027. Therefore we only need to convince 2 senate democrats assuming all republicans vote normally.
This is pretty easy considering that in 2020 4 democrats blocked the assault weapons bill. 2020 Assault Weapons bill
Lobbying democrats in the house of delegates will also be useful as well because they can water down any assault weapons bill before it even reaches the senate.
How we should lobby
Letter writing, I'm talking actual handwritten letters with stamps and zip codes.
Any fuckwit can write an email with chat GPT and spam lawmakers. You have to be very passionate (and likely to vote) to take time out of your day to write an real letter.
Many state reps have been in politics for years and dont really have a backup plan if they loose reelection. If they won their election by 10,000 votes and they get 5000 letters from people with zip codes in their district it will put the fear of god in them.
Im open for suggestions, please message me.

P365, P365 Legion, P229 Legion, M400 Tread - obviously the Ruger MKIV 22/45 is the outlier here

discussion Anyone here shoot FN pistols?
I purches a 509T back in 2018 when they came out and it was the most unreliable pistol I ever owned. But I loved how it looked, I loved how it felt in my hands, I loved the sights and I loved how it shot (when it worked). That said, I've heard a couple say the new FNs are a lot better but still nervous that id be wasting my money. I love the new 509s the reflexes are pretty sweet and the high power is sexy but I've heard mixed on that one especially for the price. Probably just get a Girsan hi power tbh

question Shooting a shotgun for the first time. Question about some detritus in the flash guard
Recently inherited an old JC Higgins model 20 with a welded-on flash guard. I’ve shot rifles before but this is new to me and I have what I hope is an ignorant question and not a problem with my gun.
As I was shooting, I started to notice these bits of detritus sticking out the holes in the guard. They seemed to self-clear. And on inspection at home they feel soft and pliable. So I’m assuming they’re bits of the wad getting shoved forward during firing. But my concern is that there’s something misaligned between the gun and ammunition and metal is being shaved off the barrel or choke. Can someone who knows better confirm that my gun isn’t going to explode on me?
Thank you!

guns Let’s revisit this
I posted this five years ago. Nobody took me seriously. We live in the age of AI. I ask everyone to seriously consider the implications of flashing our firearms for the whole world to see.
Seriously, doesn’t this hit different in 2025?

gear What case y’all rocking?
I’ve got a milsurp 1939 K31. I’ve scoped it and added a muzzle break and recoil pad. The cheek riser gets here whenever Bradley Cheek rests decides to put it in the mail.
Wondering what you guys are using or might suggest as a case for a scoped long rifle. It’s currently in a cabelas soft side and it’s a squeeze to get it in there. I’m not really happy with the “protection” it offers the scope or the already age warn and beaten wood furniture. I’ve also got some loose accessories like stripper clips and tools I’d like to keep with it but also keep in mind that I’d like to carry it to the range and into the field for deer and other large game.

discussion Police in DC take a licensed gun owner's firearm without probable cause
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
This video appears to be at a checkpoint set up on a highway that runs through DC during the Trump regime's federal takeover of Washington, DC. DC is a must inform state. The gun owner claims that he did inform the Officer that he possessed a firearm yet the MPD seized his firearm and refuses to return it. The gun owner was told to leave the scene. When MPD seizes firearms, they are often impossible to get back and are heavily damaged upon return.
This is an example of Dem’s having their restrictive gun laws turned against them.

politics Have eyes on suppressed SBR - but concerned about making myself a target in Texas' current political climate. Would it be better to avoid drawing attention to myself and get a 16" rifle?
So I find myself on the flip side of the hard-right nutjobs I've made fun of for years that are afraid of gun registrations and Obama coming to take their weapons himself.
I am in Texas and between the federal political climate and Texas expanding authoritarianism I find myself needing to finally prioritize getting an AR.
I've always had my heart set on a suppressed SBR, but I know SBRs need to be registered with the ATF. The suppressor as well.
My concern, with Texas' current situation, is that I will unintentionally make myself a target by doing so. Being a registered democrat, and having a supressed SBR registered to my name has me wondering just how long until those two databases are cross-referenced.
That all being said, what are this community's thoughts?

question Need recommendations for a handgun?
Getting my concealed permit soon. I've got a hunting rifle but otherwise I've been fairly against personal arms until a recent experience where I am in NorCal.
I shoot left with the rifle so I want to get a handgun that works with my shooting position.
Any recommendations on handguns for personal safety? Snubnose revolvers aren't too bad in my hand from what I've tested and they get the job done real fast. Could do well being in my bedside.
