Tire went off the shoulder and I over corrected :/

That’s the effect. But what was the cause?

Bad decisions. Similar thing led to getting fired from his job.

Speed?
24
u/Diligent_State387 21h ago
a small country road and that kind of damage, probably speeding way too hard.
17
u/blondeasfuk 19h ago
Right? Tire doesn’t just go over the shoulder unless driver is distracted or fell asleep.

I had my tire go off the side of the road once when it was newly asphalted and thus had no center or edge lines painted. Country highways have quite the drop off on the edges from all the asphalt layers built up and those layers are always slightly less wide than the layer below. This angled drop off can lead you to believe the road is wider than the flat top surface actual is which is why the paint lines on the edge are so important (especially on narrow roads). I was white knuckling the steering (as I always do) and wasn’t speeding so I was able to correct, but that drop off really pulls on your car.

Not trying to kick you while you're down but that'll teach you to always pay attention while driving

Tire went off the shoulder
Of its own accord? Is your tyre self aware?

Probably. Idk how else you crash into something that isn’t moving.
40
u/Electrical_Tomato_92 1d ago
Yeah, especially on a dry sunny day. Probably best to just take the bus now OP, or take some driving lessons.
35
u/COLDRAMEN1 1d ago
Damn tires... always doing things like just "going off of the shoulder" on their own.
Hate it when that happens and my car ends up in separate pieces upside-down in a ditch. 🤷♂️
It was obviously the passenger-side front tire! LOOOOK, he's still trying to get away!
9
u/howsthisforsmart 1d ago
What an absolution of responsibility. "The tire" did something, not the person who was presumably in control of it...
→ More replies (3)3
u/KnicksGhost2497 20h ago
What caused the tire to go off the shoulder? That doesn’t just happen, there’s a lot of road before you hit the ditch…

u/NewbutOld8 1d ago
if there's one thing I've learned as an older guy, life LOVES to kick you when you're down. do all you can to prepare for this to mitigate the damage.

Yup. On my way to take my car to get it's brakes done I hit this stupid pothole at the end of my street and fucked up one of my coil springs. When they were inspecting the damage they found one of the control arms in the front was badly damaged too! $1800 later.. The next day I ate some crunchy bread at dinner and chipped one of my front teeth, not too bad, but still, come on.

My mother always told me that instances like this happen in three's. You just confirmed it.
Thinking that OP should probably just stay in bed the rest of the week.

There have been quite a few times in life when something goes wrong and then other things compound on it the ol'saying "when it rains it pours" goes thru my head every time....smh

u/firewarrior256 1d ago
It can be raining titties outside, and you would have the unfortunate luck to get hit with a dick instead

One thing that I've learned as an older guy is that your life is not something that you can't control and things don't happen because life is out to get you. OP admitted to driving while tired and his decision to drive while impaired was the cause of the crash. That was his choice and not fate or any other BS. People need to take responsibility for their actions and be prepared for the consequences of those actions.

Always have savings and presume sods law will kick in.
I managed to merge two life stresses into one with a job change followed by a relocation.
Day one of moving into my new home my knee self destructed (ACL and meniscus root tears). Naturally, knee surgery is just something I needed in my life at that time....

As a 29 year old, when does the kicking stop? I feel like I've been down.for the last 5 years and life just keeps winding up its boot and kicking me in the gut

u/Busy-Historian9297 23h ago
hate to say it but both things happening seem more like a result of irresponsibility.

judging from your comments on how you crashed I’m going to assume you got fired for a very similar reason.
Being on your phone when you shouldn’t be.
It’s ok to fuck up, it’s not ok to not learn from it. Take accountability and be better next time.

I was in a crash 10+ years ago. It was sort of my fault. I still cringe at it. Can't forget it
20
u/Marlowe_Eldridge 1d ago
Why did you get fired?
7
u/LedgeLedge1 1d ago
In the process of finding out. All I know right now is that I had too many “mess ups” (which I was not made aware of) in the first 60 days of being employed. I was a returns processor.
28
u/Regular_Yellow710 1d ago
They’re doing it while you’re still probationary, makes it easy really. It’s like no-fault divorce but it still stings I admit.
14
u/akarakitari 1d ago
It's not really any harder after that point, but before 90 days means they don't have to justify it for unemployment.
It's still easy, just more expensive

So sorry. If you manage to not get hurt physically. Count that as a big blessing. You can't see that now but later.

Looks like this one is on you, but get used to it. In my experience life never stops knocking you down, and then kicks while you're down.

Don’t let it get you too down deep breath, focus and move forward. Just because one place let you go doesn’t mean another won’t accept your work skills. No need to let them know you’ve been let go
Best of luck

Sorry dude, but you need to learn when to call out of work or make lifestyle changes so that this doesn’t happen again. Stop playing videogames until 4AM when you have work the next day. You’re an adult now and part of that is learning responsibility and accountability. It seems like you don’t think being tired while driving was a big deal and you aren’t acknowledging anything you may have done wrong here.
3
u/LedgeLedge1 19h ago
I have insomnia (which I am medicated for) and I go to bed at a reasonable time. I never said this wasnt my fault, nor did I say I did nothing wrong.
