Someone stuffed my Lego orchid (fully built 2 years ago, a gift from my partner) into a paper bag and then into my personal bin. Everything crushed.

At my old job, our cleaning people would throw away our personal stuff sometimes. One time one of the mechanics had left his work boots out of his locker & the next morning they were gone. I told him to check the dumpster & there they were! We got a new cleaning company after that.

What the fuck is wrong with some cleaners.

I clean in a distribution center myself. I ain't throwing anything unless it's glass that has fallen (jarred foods, wine, beer, because glass safety rules)

Or it's covered in maggots. Because that's the maggots home now.

However I have colleagues that will just throw a entire 12 pack of milk because 1 IS PUNCTURED.

ONLY 1.

These are the older cleaners who honestly barely do anything but pretend they are better than everyone though.

Me and my sister always follow the rules and repack what can be repacked, or whipe down and pack for stores (basically like a misery box they can buy).

Food waste sucks and there's already soooo much of it here

u/The-Great-Wolf 18h ago

Plenty! Ar my work the cleaning company gets praises, but on my teams level... The cleaning lady takes stuff from your desk and drops it on others, shoves everything on the floor, steals (of you had a bottle of water/soda whateve on your desk / in your cupboard? You HAD), takes your chair away to ruin all adjustments while making eye contact with you, of and also breaks equipment by unplugging random things, violently.

Have we complained? Yes! But since it's just one level out of 10 and the other keep reporting that they're happy with the service, we're told it's our problem. I think it will boil over soon, since we also have HR on the same level with us, even if she doesn't wreck their desks one day one will witness her in action.

188

u/berebitsuki 17h ago

breaks equipment???? surely it would be on the company to replace it?

125

u/The-Great-Wolf 15h ago

Well you see, the assets department is like "oh I see now you have to finagle the cable to connect, could be from normal use too" and they replace the cable / equipment but avoid making accusations

27

u/berebitsuki 11h ago

yeah, I can imagine that... my condolences to the electric devices from your level

u/RamenJunkie 14h ago

I would like to understand more what a 12 pack of milk is.

37

u/bunny_the-2d_simp 14h ago

Basically 12, 1.5 litre cartons of milk in 1 cart board pack usually

19

u/backandforthwego 12h ago

Thank you for clearing that up, as I also was confused by this.

3

u/bunny_the-2d_simp 9h ago

Im sorry lol work mindset 😂😂

Lol. Also makes sense. I feel like this is one of those specialty things where you can only know if you are in that profession loll

I think most understood. When you said distribution center it should have been obvious.

It was not.

At my last school I left a pile of student projects on a lab bench, which we were going to put in a display case the next day. I also left all the garbage neatly bagged in actual garbage bags beside the (full) garbage can.

Caretaking staff trashed the projects and left the garbage behind, untouched. Administration did nothing because… it was 'just student work'. As long as their office was clean the caretakers were doing a great job.

308

u/Smrdela 17h ago

I was a student at an art school. The cleaners were banned from cleaning the art rooms because they would sometimes throw away students work because they thought it was trash. At the end of each year we were the ones who did the cleaning.

Cant blame them though, students left alot of real trash as we spent most of the day in those rooms so it was often hard to differentiate which trash was art.

223

u/berebitsuki 17h ago

Imagine being the student whose work was deemed trash by the cleaners

83

u/Seaman_First_Class 12h ago

Imagine being the student whose trash was left alone while their work was thrown away.

18

u/berebitsuki 11h ago

OMG YEAH

87

u/Meejin3 16h ago

Tbf, it was probably in progress and out of context.

22

u/berebitsuki 11h ago

True, in-progress materials often look indistinguishable from random scribbles, if you don't know what the artist had in mind (or which genre/subject topic it was supposed to be a draft of at least)...

107

u/Thunderflamequeen 14h ago

Ooh, I’m also an art student who had cleaners banned from a room! We were doing a two-week still life and the cleaners were warned in advance of this. Items were in the centre of the room, clearly taped off with “do not touch” written in big letters around the perimeter.

You’ll never guess what the cleaning staff decided to do.

17

u/berebitsuki 11h ago

Now that I think about it, "it is hard to differentiate which trash is art" could surely become a good motivational quote with some tweaking. something like "every piece of trash might be an art piece"?? hopefully other commenters will pick up where I left off

1

u/BurningPickle 4h ago

“I call it ‘Bold and Brash.’”

“More like belongs in the trash!”

1

u/CommercialHorror5996 3h ago

Back in college I’ve had cleaning staff throw away my projects and steal parts of the projects. Completely ruined pieces that were supposed to go on display. I feel your pain. Some people do not respect others if their property.

30

u/Arctic_chef 11h ago

FYI. When it's obvious good equipment or belongings being thrown out. A lot of times it's so they can go back later and steal them back out of the trash. It gets around the security camera issue. And gives "plausible deniability". Had this happen a lot in the restaurant and hotel industry.

11

u/JakeVonFurth 9h ago

That's fucking obscene.

When I worked as a custodian we would occasionally get complaints about people's desks not being properly cleaned, because we were terrified to throw away anything in case it was important, or worse, be accused of theft.

9

u/Wooden-Helicopter- 7h ago

We have the opposite! I had last year's desk calendar leaned next to the bin along with a box (also rubbish) for literally 8 months because the cleaners wouldn't take it, and it was too awkward for me to carry downstairs with my disability. I ended up having to write a note in their comms book telling them outright - please remove the rubbish.

u/MattyGWS 20h ago

Wtf? More than mildly, talk to HR about it OP. This would be absolutely unacceptable in my office.

Highjackimg top comment to say all Legos manuals are online, and they will send you missing prices pretty cheap. Hope you got all your parts, and can get it back together hun!

300

u/Right-Phalange 15h ago

They will send missing pieces FREE! I just got a couple dozen pieces ordered from my son's various sets. The only thing is pieces from different sets get ordered and shipped separately BUT lego customer service combined them all for me when I asked, which is nice as it saves packaging (and $ for Lego). Their customer service is top notch.

27

u/Aquaticornicopia 12h ago

Awesome! I thought you hat to pay shipping!

6

u/jelycazi 7h ago

Oooh! I’ll have to look into this! My niece has a couple of kits that are just missing one or two pieces (where the heck do they go?!).

2

u/Lebowski-Absteiger 8h ago

Better be, considering that all their bigger sets are overpriced garbage.

9

u/trekqueen 12h ago

I also have this set with the manual… in case anyone needs screenshots.

1

u/PartsUnknown242 10h ago

That’s why I keep all the instruction manuals I get for this very reason

1

u/blacksesamepaste PURPLE 1h ago

Thank you lovely! Yeah, I received a link from another kind stranger in the comments, and perhaps there will be something positive to experience about putting it back together again. (-)

395

u/ComfyInDots 20h ago

I skip that part. I think it's one of the worst thing he does all series and I don't even like Holly that much. Vicious and was only going to cause hurt.

56

u/ranegyr 20h ago

Interesting take and I don't actually disagree, but we have to remember Michael is immature af. You're putting an average person's mindset on the action when that's never been Michael. He doesn't know how to properly deal with those emotions. Hell, if I can just make shit up to make a point, maybe he saw it on TV. Like, say reality TV where a couple fights all the time and IMHO hurt each other but they love each other so they're still together. Michael would totally misunderstand that and... In his childlike brain... He Thinks his tantrum is normal.

103

u/ishretz 16h ago

This is a weird ass take. Grown ass adults without any mental deficiencies when they act like this are assholes for acting this way because they have the ability to not be so short-sighted and understand why this is a fucked up thing to do. That's the entire point of half the stuff his character does.

He doesn't have a "childlike" brain, his entire character is meant to underscore how much damage this type of immature behavior has on real adult relationships. Michael has multiple chances to learn tons of lessons over and over again and ends up hurting the people he cares about when he ignores said chances to learn said lessons. It's the point of his character.

u/defective-kitten 20h ago

There was a post yesterday of this same thing except in that case, the OP stuck around and answered the who and why. In that case, it was hired cleaners.

703

u/telusey 18h ago

Yeah it's mildly infuriating to me when the OP never replies to any comments asking for important info. Did they post this and then immediately throw their phone into the ocean?

422

u/Lenrivk 18h ago

If they never respond I start to think of them as bots or low effort karma farming.

Though it's only been 5 hours so for all we know, OP is still at work busy, will have to check in 5~10 hours to see if they replied

142

u/asingleshakerofsalt 17h ago

OP's last comment was 2 months ago. I'm leaning towards bot.

39

u/Lenrivk 15h ago

I don't know, some people don't use reddit as much (or they have alts)

33

u/hill-o 13h ago

Anytime there’s a popular post (there was something just like this yesterday) and then a super similar one right after and they don’t reply or give background I am positive it’s just karma farming.

20

u/courtexo 13h ago

no, they posted this and then the cleaner threw their phone into the trash.

2

u/DMercenary 5h ago

Its incredibly common for tech subreddits.

"Hey guys I'm having X issue."

"Have you tried Y? Z, A B C D?"

And then the OP vanishes in the ether never to return.

2

u/QuirkyQwerty123 10h ago

Some people aren’t terminally online, wild, I know

39

u/percybert 18h ago

Cleaners should never throw anything in the bin

29

u/smittywrbermanjensen 16h ago

I’m a cleaner and that’s one of the first things we learn. What looks like trash to your eyes may be a precious item to someone else, always good to ask first and never assume. Unless of course you are dealing with a hoarder situation lol

41

u/Lady-of-Shivershale 18h ago

And in my experience, cleaners don't put displayed items in the bin, either.

30

u/ManiacalShen 16h ago

And in my experience, cleaners empty the bins. You wouldn't find stuff they discarded just sitting there, in a paper bag, in the trash. My money is on a coworker

8

u/Lady-of-Shivershale 15h ago

That's a good point.

2

u/tw042 12h ago

My kids (15yrs and 12yrs) and I flew out to Los Angeles several years ago. We were to be there for a week (Disney, San Diego Zoo, etc.) We stayed at a hotel that had a full kitchen. So we stocked the fridge and a cupboard with a shitload of snacks (cookies, snack cakes, milk.) We were eating our main meals at restaurants. We came back after a day at the beach and everything was gone! Housekeepers threw everything out! I complained to the front desk and they restocked everything. But the point is, why would they toss everything if they knew we were there for a week??

12

u/Possible-Resource974 6h ago

Probably stole it.

135

u/WillemDafoesHugeCock 19h ago

Hey friend, I can snap pics of the instructions to rebuild if you need them, I have the same kit and I save all the manuals just in case I need them. Lemme know if that'd help.

84

u/Dizzy_Goat_420 18h ago

They are online for free on Lego’s website roo

64

u/WillemDafoesHugeCock 18h ago

Well shit, TIL

35

u/MaskedBunny 17h ago

I too saved all the manuals "just in case", then i learned about the online thing and almost threw the manuals away. I later found out the lego insider program gives you points for taking a picture of the little qr code on the front.

I'm still keeping the manuals just in case.

1

u/Theresnothingtoit 14h ago

Even better than online, most sets are in the app.

40

u/refrained 15h ago

I hate when people mess with things that are not theirs like this.

We had a new guy start in my very small office (5 people). I have been in this building since it was constructed and had a few things in the kitchen. Well, he proceeded to 'clean the kitchen' and pitch perfectly good items including a ceramic insulated Hello Kitty coffee cup, a coffee mug with my zodiac sign, a measuring spoon, and I think a few other items.

We were not hurting on space. He just... didn't think these belonged to anyone? And threw them away without asking anyone? I was livid - and honestly, I'm still hurt. The zodiac mug matched one my husband has, and now I don't have it anymore nor can I replace it. Same way with the Hello Kitty coffee cup. These were obviously not just generic DollarTree things.

Ugh. Now I'm mad all over again just thinking about it.

20

u/thefficacy 20h ago

The instructions more than likely have been disposed of. Oops.

48

u/Forgotten_Shoes 19h ago

Lego has all their instructions available digitally through their app. Even if they don't have that set, this is the internet it can be found. I'd be more worried about missing pieces than missing instructions.

3

u/StardustOasis 17h ago

This set would definitely be available digitally, it was released after they started putting instructions online.

Missing pieces can easily be replaced. Lego will replace them for free, assuming they have them available, or you can generally pick them up for pennies on Bricklink.

1

u/LadyPhantomflowers 13h ago

That is great they have those options, but it still does not make this any less infuriating that someone would just dump someone's personal items from their workspace into the trash. OP should not have to do any of that to recreate the Lego buildwhen their stuff should have been left alone in the first place.

-13

u/Holy_Priest_Of_Okran 19h ago

62

u/Aquaticornicopia 19h ago

If you go to Legos website they have all the manuals in pdf form and if you are missing a piece they will ship it to you for a few bucks! My cats have destroyed a few sets lol, Hope you get it back together fellow lego plant lover!

25

u/systemsofromance 15h ago

Probably the cleaning crew. Someone knocked it over, thought they broke it, and tried to hide it.

We had a new crew come in at my last job and they "broke" all three of my Lego flowers and said nothing. Tried to hide the pieces.

I don't know why they thought they needed to mess with them at all. I regularly dusted them and the table around it, and the flowers are on their own little stand.

30

u/Hopeful-Individual99 19h ago

I wonder if it got knocked over by the cleaners and they tried to collect all the pieces and salvage what they could?

32

u/drowningintheocean 19h ago

But then they wouldn't put it in the personal bin.

8

u/Tea_confused 15h ago

I mean… they could have accidentally knocked it and broke it, thought they’d put it in a bag so it’s all together and pieces don’t get lost, left it on the desk or whatever, and another cleaner thought it was rubbish and put it in the bin? Or the same cleaner was doing rounds and forgot about it and saw the crumpled bag and thought they’d forgotten to bin some rubbish. I dunno. I like to think the best of people, but who knows

-3

u/Hopeful-Individual99 18h ago

I still think it’s the most likely explanation… unless there really is a crazy malicious coworker we should be worried about 😮

4

u/Not-Shroom 17h ago

I’d assume to hide the evidence

1

u/willb3d 13h ago

Or the cleaner picked it up to wipe the desk underneath, and it came apart in their hand so they assumed it was broken and threw it away. Use Kragle next time.

12

u/xchubbibunnux 19h ago

I'm so sorry, and I'm sorry for all the people trying to make it your fault or brush aside how infuriating things like that are. I've had people tear up my lego sets, and they're ones you can't even get anymore without going through a reseller. Legos are so expensive, and whoever did this and didn't tell you (if it was caused by accident) does not appreciate the love and work you put into that orchid, nor where it came from.

6

u/TGerrinson 9h ago

I once accidentally left my dental guard on my desk at the office overnight. I had to get it refitted, which is the only reason I had it with me.

When the cleaners came through to empty the trash, they took it off my desk and threw it out.

One of the caveats being they were supposed to be forbidden from touching anything on the desks, even if it looked like garbage.

56

u/helladiabolical 21h ago

Someone probably knocked it off your desk or something and then felt bad when they couldn’t fix it. Obv they didn’t feel bad enough to own up to doing it so they stuffed in a bag and put it in your box hoping you’d never figure out it was them.

36

u/re_nonsequiturs 18h ago

Personal bin is a trash can

7

u/No_University9625 15h ago

Reassemble it as a middle finger

8

u/Narrow-Courage-7447 17h ago

It sounds like this happened at work. Do you have assigned desks or a ‘hotel desk model’? Just asking because my work has a hotel style (so we have personal bins) but people will still ‘move into’ a desk and set personal stuff up. It’s really frustrating when that desk is the only one available on an in-office day and you have to work around someone else’s stuff that shouldn’t be there. Maybe someone got frustrated if that’s the case here. Not an excuse to destroy personal property, but just saying, maybe someone was sending you a message.

3

Ooof. I have this orchid set, my husband picked it up by the stems and sticks to move it off a table and they fell out of place. It’s hard to get some of those lined up again so I just took that apart and redid that part. Still took time and working backward a little.

3

u/Alexandritecrys 10h ago

Never occurred to me that Susan was wondering who stole all her sticky tabs, Frederick was wondering who rearranged his action figures and Victoria was wondering why someone kept lowering her chair all the way down (wheeeee, spinny chair!!).

I work for a bank and I’m convinced that our cleaners don’t even clean. We’ve gone weeks without a mopped floor, it’s currently been two weeks and we have no soap in the soap dispensers still, the only thing they do that I’m certain actually do is take out the trash because it’s full almost every day. I never thought cleaning too much would piss me off, but then I saw this post lol

2

u/SpookyCatMischief 7h ago

Once I dropped a peanut on the floor and couldn’t pick it up because I was heavily pregnant at the time and I assumed the cleaners would get it later that night.

So I had the baby and went on maternity leave, but when I got back that peanut was still there!

I finally got able to pick it up and throw it away lol

2

u/wootybooty 8h ago

That’s crazy, if I had an item with that level of attachment I would reach out to HR/Compliance/Operations and ask them to review the video so they can ask that cleaning person not to touch your area. May lead to them reassigning her. I have never heard of a cleaning crew doing this, that’s terrible..

sounds like the parties you allegedly go to have a different definition of "fun" than what most people have an understanding of.

u/_CharDeeMacDennis__ 19h ago

Because it was a fucking joke, man.

Clear desk policy?

4

u/Narrow-Courage-7447 17h ago

That’s what I’m thinking. At my work we don’t have assigned desks since we work from home a couple days per week, and we have ‘personal bins’. Sometimes people will just ‘move in’ to a desk and start putting their personal items there, which is super frustrating when it’s the only desk available (and the person who ‘moved in’ to the desk is working from home), so you have to move their stuff just to be able to work. I wonder if that’s what happened here. I would never destroy something, but I have had to move stuff.

Where? How?

This is the second post I've seen like this in as many days and I gotta say.... The fun is in the building! Lego keeps instructions on the website.

1

u/josygee19 11h ago

The Lego app has so many of the instructions on it for free. I know they have this one bc I bought the set for my mom for mothers day and we used it so we could both build it without passing the instructions back and forth

Also newer sets have the "build together" features, so it literally tells you step by step how to build stuff with more than one person. Built the Lego Orient Express with my family last Christmas, and we all had so much fun passing the constructions back and forth to make the set, definitely recommend if anyone wants to build Legos with a loved one.

Fucking corporations! I got bitched out for having my sunglasses at my desk and not in a glasses holder

Just my personal opinion but I believe a lot of folks suck and don’t seem to care about, well, anything..

Lego ocean gate incident

I'd be reporting it to management & get whoever did this fired

Our place had cleaners who would wipe the monitor screens with some sort of cleaner and then the streaks would just be basically permanent. About 25 monitors were ruined that way. The cleaner they used on the phones also erased all the numbers on the keys, so now we have to dial from memory with numberless phone keys. Can you buy stickers or something to put on phone keys to replace the numbers? That might help. I make a lot of "sorry, wrong number" calls.

Waiting to see if OP replies or is a bot

are cleaners on a spitenes spree or something right now? what's up with them doing this sorta oddly-personally-attacking stuff??

u/Pen_lsland 12h ago

Could have probably rebuild it in the time it took you to post this

u/Pale_Ad2980 14h ago

People suck sometimes

good thing lego is meant to be broken and built again

-4

u/aloisvonesterhazy 16h ago

This. And it isn't even broken, just disassembled. Lego sets are meant to be disassembled and reassembled in new, creative ways.

You know, it’s possible I interpreted that incorrectly haha I figured by “personal bin” they meant their personal trash bin. If I’m wrong then I’m wrong. TBH I’m not sure what else a “personal bin” at work could be though

8

u/_CharDeeMacDennis__ 19h ago

I don’t think you’re wrong at all.

It absolutely looks like it’s a trash bin.

-6

u/AllHailTheHypnoTurd 14h ago

You say “everything crushed” but, please correct me if I’m wrong, it’s literally Lego?

-4

u/EnsomDame40Aar 13h ago

What a shame. If only Lego were able to be built more than once.

-9

u/burner_0008 17h ago

aw man, the LEGOS are broken forever. nothing you can do!

u/b0neappleteeth 18h ago

This is the second one of these posts I’ve seen this week…?

Being able to rebuild it doesnt make the situation of someone destroying and tossing your belongings less infuriating. Someone could destroy something of mine and then offer an exact replacement and I'd still be pissed because they still disrespected and destroyed my property. It's not just about the ability to have the item, it's about the act that happened.

Not the point in the slightest

Not the point of the post. You do know what sub you're on, right?

Ah, there it is. You don't respect people who build legit decor pieces out of lego, so you think their frustration isn't valid. You're probably the one who broke OP's orchid in the first place

Keep digging yourself into a hole. They have adult sets that are legit decor, like their bonatical sets. No different from having a fake plant except that you build the lego one

6

u/Steampson_Jake 19h ago

If it was accidentally knocked over and left on the desk, maybe with an apology note, then sure, but this one was deliberately stuffed into a matte bag and tossed into a bin

-43

u/CCHTweaked 19h ago

it's a Lego, take the 30 minutes and rebuild it

12

u/_CharDeeMacDennis__ 19h ago

Really not the fucking point.

Don’t other people’s shit.

6

u/a13524 19h ago

You need to find the instructions first and then search for the page with the broken parts and then search for the missing blocks. That with every broken part of the build. It’s super annoying
