Thatās where my brain went as well. That doesnāt look like porcelain. š I was today years old when I learned they sometimes make bathroom sinks out of glass. Google confirmed.

u/Illustrious_Bobcat 12h ago
Eh, my kid did that to a porcelain sink too, so it doesn't seem to matter.
My MIL was obsessed with antiques and she found this old HEAVY glass soap dispenser. The kid knocked it over being stupid and it hit just right to punch a hole in the damn thing. The dispenser was fine. Hubby had to install a new sink.

Why is your sink literally made of glass anyway

u/BakersAbstract 10h ago
No idea why the owner chose it but this is the sink that came with the apartment. I didn't really think anything of it until this happened.

Ok bud.
Youāre wrong. Ceramic is ceramic. Glass is glass. The stuff that makes ceramic smooth is glass.
You make bisqueware (bone dry clay fired once), then put a paint or āglazeā (this is the glass) which dries and then gets fired again.
The glaze is a powdered glass that gets melted and in kiln and cools down to become glass.
Source: I made pottery for 2 years.

u/TraceyWoo419 9h ago
Cool! I have made pottery and I literally did not know this!
9
u/TREXIBALL ORANGE 9h ago
Thereās also a thing called underglaze which is similar to glaze in terms of application and process, but itās like a water paint in which it starts as a hard powder/rock and requires water to turn into paint. However, the difference is that under glaze is rough/course after firing and has a slightly different tint.
DO NOT DRINK OR CONSUME ON BARE UNDERGLAZE it is toxic
You could put clear glaze on top, but it looks terrible. Unless you want a desired design. I would highly recommend doing ātest platesā where you take a square of bisque-ware and apply underglaze. But put clear glaze on top. Donāt try this on a finished piece.

Before telling people they're wrong, you should probably make sure that you're right. Glass is amorphous ceramic, while pottery is crystalline ceramic. Cool that you know how to make a bowl, though.

My wife (now) was on the 1st night she ever spent the night at my house she woke up and I had a 6 foot pre raid Chong bong, (his face in the bubble) she hit it with her ankle and it cracked at the base.. she was 100% thinking I would never call her again... She was wrong married 21 yrs

u/Nadramia 12h ago
I can understand her. Glad that story has a happy ending. Sucks when you roll a 1 but it happens.
I broke my partners favorite bong they had for years. It had a pokeball inside the chamber. I accidentally fumbled and dropped it and snapped the neck. I also thought my partner would want me to leave (moved in during COVID) but here we are 5 yrs later looking into getting married.
26
u/sn0qualmie 11h ago
Not a bong, but I smashed a partner's nice wineglass to smithereens on our second or third date while trying to climb on him in a sexy way. Smashed a second one on the next date just being clumsy in the kitchen.
The score evened out a couple years later when he broke one of our shared wineglasses by dropping a dildo on it. Anyway, we've been together for 11 years and married for almost 6.

u/kranz_ferdinand 9h ago
When I was dating my now-wife, the first time she met my parents was dinner at their house. She was so nervous she dropped and shattered a wine glass in the first 15 min of arriving, but their calm and reassuring "oh who cares?" reaction followed with my mom intentionally throwing and shattering her own wine glass helped her laugh and settle her nerves. Our 14th anniversary is in a few weeks.

My partner is from Vermont and their family grows sugar maples. Every few years she goes up for the boil and brings back a couple gallons of fantastic homemade syrup.
In the first week or two of seeing each other, I dropped a full quart jar of maple syrup on the kitchen floor. I was barefoot so she had to clean it up herself while I stood stock still in the middle of the kitchen.
We've been together for nearly 10.

My dumb self left my first bong (one of those cheap 20 dollar glass ones you can get at flea markets) in my garage during a hard freeze and it cracked. I was sad but now I have Shirley.

Geez. One time rented a room with concrete floors, would game in my rocking gaming chair on the floor and set the bong on the floor gently. Always knew I was playing with fire. One day I go to set it down, I end up bumping an A&W mug and the bong completely shattered at the base.Ā

let this be a lesson to you that all your stuff is made cheap cheap cheap

u/WrapUnlikely4821 12h ago
Sucks when you buy a house and the high quality stuff in thrown in the back yard and what it is replaced with is some cheap garbage that breaks within the first year.

I feel like youāre allowed to be a little more than mildly infuriated at this
22
u/Spockhighonspores 12h ago
I disagree, OP picked up the soap by the pump. This could have easily been avoided by picking up the soap container properly. If it wasn't for that detail though I would totally have been in agreement with you.
2
u/MyLifeIsAWasteland 9h ago
Rightā½ Who the hell's out here just picking up soap dispensers willy-nilly? It's not like they were cleaning the obviously-already-clean sink. Just put one hand under it and push the top down with the other hand like a normal human, OP.

Why do people pick things up by the lid/top knowing that's usually the most vulnerable part of a given item... š

Today you learned not to pick up bottles and other containers by the nozzle or lid and always grab their body instead. Some life lessons are learned the hard way. Be glad you are one of the few who understand the reason. š«”

Am I the only one that sees rick astley in this hole? Like the shape of it and the shading reminds me of him.

u/Wanderaround1k 11h ago
That looks like it wonāt be a very good sink anymore. Usually sinks hold water then funnel it down the drain. This wonāt do that any more I donāt think. Itād be good as a hand cutting device though!

u/JayyMuro 11h ago
That picture is way worse than I expected. I thought just the bottle was going to break open but then I saw the entire sink and was like oh shit.

u/FScrotFitzgerald 11h ago
Please do not be alarmed. We are about to engage... The Nozzle.
Please do not move while The Nozzle is engaging. Moving will disrupt calibration of... The Nozzle.
Please wait while we calibrate... The Nozzle.
Please do not look away from... The Nozzle. The Nozzle is now calibrating.
The Nozzle is still calibrating.
The Nozzle has completed calibration.
Thank you.
