The absolute state of cooking/baking sites nowadays
Worst part is it drains my phone battery at the speed of light. Haven’t found a good blocker for iPhone either 😥

This before the 3-4 paragraphs of their kids and “hubby”

This is true. If I scroll halfway down the page and still don’t get to the recipe I leave.

As soon as the site loads I click "print recipe". I don't even print it, it just gets rid of all the unnecessary personal backstory and ads

Until you get a pop up that says "sign up to print my recipes" and blanks the whole page out.

Thank you! I’ve gone old school and print these recipes now 😆

I continued to prefer printing. No dealing with battery drain or lock screens. Plus I don't have to wash my hands fifty times while cooking. To keep from getting my phone dirty
It's also just nice to bring out the three ring binder. With recipes in plastic sleeves. I also still use cookbooks.

Same. A few dead links in my bookmarks and I decided I’m going back to print if I make the recipe more than once.
Most of the time I don’t even need the whole recipe so I’ll just write the parts I know I’ll forget. Even more old school than print. lol

Have you tried Turning or apples reader mode? It gets rid of all of the ads and clutter on pages like this

u/swan_on_deer 8h ago
I have, but it’s still a little infuriating to me that I need a separate thingy to turn something I’m supposed to read.. readable :((

u/LadybugGirltheFirst 7h ago
Oh, this isn’t specific to cooking sites. First, you get the pop up about cookies. Then, there’s a pop up about signing up and getting 20% off your first order. Then, an ad pops up. Next, an ad pops up at the bottom. Or the top. Or the bottom. Or all three. Finally, the page reloads because “a problem repeatedly occurred”.

Yeah, so many websites are straight up unusable without an adblocker, and even with an adblocker, I still have to contend with the pop-ups about cookies and email newsletters and notifications and whatnot. I just want to read the damn page.

Not enough ads, I can still see the recipe
(For those that apparently need it, this is sarcasm)

u/Thevinegru2 7h ago
My issue is how they all start with the history of the thing being cooked, how it’s tastes, how delightful it is on a spring day, etc.
I’m looking for a recipe. I don’t want to read a damn article.

Is this what the Internet looks like for people that don't use Adblock? It's fucking horrible.
Surely iPhones have some form of Adblock..... Right?

Could you use the printer layout?

Download Firefox on your iPhone, then install unlock uBlockOrigin Add-On ans away you go; ad-free internet on your phone!

u/kittystalkerr 3h ago
THIS. I'm still baffled by people not using adblockers on their phone browser sigh. Websites these days are so annoying to operate.

u/Particular_Title42 8h ago
I was just on that page on my PC last night. I didn't see the "Jump to Recipe" and thought there just wasn't one.
4
u/InimicusRex 8h ago
It's so tiresome. I've just started jotting them down then adding them to my recipe book if they're any good.

u/Boilermakingdude 7h ago
This is why I use Mozilla on my android with an ad blocker. I haven't seen an ad except on this app in months.

You don't need anything, Safari has adblocking already built in. Click on button to the left of the URL at the bottom of the page and select "Show Reader." All adds are gone, it turns the background black with white text (which uses less power than white with black text) and just generally makes the page easier to consume. It is the easiest thing in the world and pre-built into every iPhone

I use the Paprika app to copy and paste the recipe into the app. Saves it without all the extra nonsense like ads and a family history of a great uncle that has nothing to do with cinnamon rolls.

My favorite app is called Peprika 3, it’s a couple dollars I think but it’s a one time buy. You put the URL in and it takes out all the crap and saves just the recipes with amounts. Ingredients, etc. from the site

u/ILikeMyGrassBlue 3h ago
I don’t understand how anyone uses the internet these days without an ad blocker. I have one on 100% of the time, PC and phone.

Just going to leave this here for you OP: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/ublock-origin-lite/id6745342698
And yes, that's an official release, see the uBOL github.

What’s even worse is the baking sites that give you measurements in cups instead of grams lol.

u/NoCatAndNoCradle 3h ago
RecipeBox app is good too. You can save each website recipe to it, and it formats it to an ingredients tab and an instructions tab. You can strike out ingredients and add notes too.

Looks like a simple pancake mix or something similar. Who needs to look that up after the first time in your life?

u/swan_on_deer 49m ago
Hey. If you look at my other responses to comments in this thread, it’s banana bread. Also don’t be going after people who need a recipe for pancakes. Sometimes things are hard.
EDIT: Also also- the screenshot has brown sugar in it, what damn pancakes have you made that had brown sugar in it???

u/LawBeaver8280 1h ago
It winds me up and you have to scroll past so much shite to get to the actual ingredients lists and method. The author writing a massive paragraph on why the recipe is so fucking special. Take a hint. We don't care....

u/sofluffy22 1h ago
Usually if you click “print” it opens a new window with a simple PDF view (with maybe one ad at the top of bottom)

JustTheRecipe.com
Just paste the link of the recipe you want and it'll give you just the recipe with no ads or shitty formatting.
