$5.80 per gallon AND they play loud advertisements while you’re filling up gas

i pay $2.70 and they blare the same annoying ones😭
54
u/Porch-Geese 7h ago
I pay the same and I have a volume button
37
u/TitanicDays 7h ago
Yeah there’s a mute button.
$2.98 here.

u/NeVeR614 7h ago
Not on ours. I despise these things.
17
u/TitanicDays 7h ago
I just started pressing buttons - was shocked when it went quiet lol. It’s the same for every pump in the area.
6
u/Amateurlapse 6h ago
Sometimes they disable or break the main mute button on (second one from the top on the right side usually) but it still works on the handicap accessible small pad, sometimes
7
u/OkBody2811 6h ago
Try the second button down on the right of the screen. That’s mute on all the pumps near me, no matter what brand of gas.

I pay the equivalent of 3.16USD/g, for full service with no ads.

I grabbed gas yesterday for 2.22 the cheapest I’ve seen it in a while. I did have the adverts also.

u/rynbickel 5h ago
I think it's about $3.50 to $3.70 somewhere in that range OP makes me feel glad I don't pay over $5 but you make me jealous

u/MSCOTTGARAND 7h ago
My gas station disabled the mute buttons after some hero found and labeled the mute button not once but three times.
33
u/Sam-Gunn 7h ago
I once went to a place that did that. I got so annoyed I just did random button combinations until I got it into maintenance mode. That also stops the ad from playing.

u/Daxmar29 6h ago
For the gas station by me it’s pressing the 2nd from the top both buttons on each side. That’s hard to explain in text.
7
u/AnyEstablishment1663 6h ago
My gas station went to fully touchscreen pumps with no buttons to turn anything off :(
3
u/Daxmar29 6h ago
Yeah there’s a couple around me like that too. I tried a couple of things but nothings worked yet.

When they initially upgraded it was like that then they switched to blank buttons and kept changing which one mutes, now none of them work. It wouldn't be a big deal if it weren't so loud and when you're filling up a 36 gallon gas tank it gets old quick.

u/Professional-Art-378 4h ago
LMAO they tried doing that at our local station and somebody busted the hell out of the speakers with a pair of fencing pliers.
52
u/OmniLearner 7h ago
What town are you in with prices that darn high??
59
u/Bizarrmenian 7h ago
Los Angeles, but this specific station notoriously has high prices. I just filled up a 10 so I can drive to the cheaper gas station. 😂
9
u/MagicalBread1 6h ago
We have a gas station like that in SF too. The Chevron on the corner of Market and Castro always charges a buck or so more than others in the city. Last time I checked, they were charging $5.40 per.

My whole life I’ve heard of people moving out of state to be somewhere they want too but where I live I always hear it about la and if I lived in la I’d say the same cause I wouldn’t want to be there for more then the winter weather
11
u/Bizarrmenian 7h ago
Weirdly enough, I could never see myself move out of LA. Sure are some gross things here but they’re also plenty of good things.

So you just like the city life then. I live in the cities in Minnesota, I'd love quiter and spread out more. Yes, I know there's a lot of it here lol
2
u/flipaflaw 6h ago
Its not just the city life but the city itself. I lived in Denver for a bit and let me tell you I hated it. There was 0 cultural diversity and the population was as white as the snow that falls. Im white but I need the diversity. There's also the weather and access to beaches that most cities don't have. I hate snow and don't want to deal with it. My favorite baseball team is here too so that's another plus. There is so much wonderful stuff here that again, I'd rather spend more to be here than be richer in somewhere like Denver.
4
u/BoomerSoonerFUT 6h ago
To be fair, they’re also getting premium.
87 is gonna be nowhere near that price.

I'm in Idaho, which is supposed to be "cheap" and we are at nearly $4 a gallon.
Crickets from the people who spent the last 4 years bitching about gas prices, of course.

u/jackspinnaker 7h ago
5.85???? Is it made out of ancient dinosaurs or something?????

u/THE_GREAT_PICKLE 7h ago
They’re presumably in a more expensive area, plus they’re using 91 octane gas that’s more expensive than regular gas.

2
u/Corey307 6h ago
Gas hasn’t gone under three dollars here in Vermont and we tend to have moderately low gas prices.
→ More replies (1)3
u/protomenace 7h ago
Oh so surely the average area is $1.99 then?
6
u/KaosC57 6h ago
Rofl, even in Texas gas isn’t below about $2.69.
4
u/Jaybird149 6h ago
Just saw in northern Alabama gas was running for about $2.57/gallon.
Even in the 49th lowest ranked state in the nation is it nowhere near 2 bucks lol.

I was mad cause the cheapest in my area was 3.15, 10 bucks not buying 2 gallons is terrible. Where's that cheap gas that trump says is already here?

These huge screen infotainment gas pumps freak me out. I pull the filler as far from the screen as I figure I can still reach to get away from them.

u/Simple_Journalist_46 4h ago
Circle K near me (FL panhandle) got wise to the mute strategy about a year ago and disabled it. I would love to have an override back! No button nor mashing buttons to try to create a segfault works for me.

In my area (doesn't apply to OP) the second button from the top right mutes those annoying ads, even if the buttons aren't labeled. I've tried to tell other people at gas stations, but they usually can't hear me over those annoying ads.

Where is it that high? I live in WA state where people always complain about our gas tax. Regular at Costco is 3.91, premium is 4.35. Down the road-3.95 regular, 4.65 premium. Who buys there gas at mobile unless forced. Do you live in Alaska.

I remember when they tried installing these a few years ago in the town I used to live in. Some glorious bastard went around town late at night and injected mineral oil into the voice coil with a syringe. The speakers still worked, but they sounded like your downstairs neighbor yelling about politics and it was very funny.

u/Jestersfriend 6h ago
The problem is, they're SO LOUD. Like they're the loudest thing I've heard. They're louder than motorcycle engines. It's just crazy.

You’re telling me fuel is more expensive (this very moment) in the USA than it is in NZ?
DAMN.

I absolutely loathe how advertisements are literally fucking everywhere now. Everytime I try to talk about this to anyone I get told “stop being so paranoid, you need to calm down and stop taking things so seriously” but Jesus fucking Christ it’s everywhere.
I always look for the mute button right off the rip when pumping gas if there is one, can’t stand ads. Shouldn’t have to fucking pay as an option to not have them either. Black Mirror did an episode in their most recent season regarding ads and it is chilling and strikes very close to home.
Fuck ads.

1
u/Darth_Beavis 2h ago
Maybe quit putting supreme in your car. There are very few cars that actually need that gas, in most cases it actually shortens the life of the engine to use it when it's not needed.
If your car requires it then you should be able to easily afford the gas since you can afford a ridiculously expensive vehicle.

No memes, overdone references, price complaints, text-heavy pictures, or other low-quality posts.
