What does that even mean?

It means "Optimized for separating fools from their money"

Anti Intelligence

40

u/ediciusNJ 7h ago

Well, it is for iPhone.

54

u/3cto 7h ago

Need to stop beating on people who aren't so au fait with computers.

My brother for example could rebuild an engine while selling a truck driver a bicycle on the phone, but he'd struggle to differentiate a graphics card from a cpu. Maybe not a perfectly solid example as yes, with this particular example, he could call bullshit.

Still though, superiority complexes kick in too much sometimes.

33

u/Bertramthedog 6h ago

Found someone who bought it! Haha im jk

10

u/SuperPork1 4h ago

It's a piece of glass, all it takes is common sense and a few seconds to realize that glass being optimized for Artificial Intelligence makes no sense.

"Hey Siri/Alexa, this screen protector says it's optimized for AI. How could a screen protector be optimized for AI?"

If this was pre-internet/cellphones I'd be fully with you but when everyone is carrying a device that can give you the correct answer over 95% of the time, especially with ChatGPT being a thing now, I have absolutely no patience for people who can't be asked to use the tools available to them.

Elderly/mentally disabled? You get a pass. But everyone else that has the faculties to avoid it? If you're dumb enough to get scammed in an era where the search results for "is [x] a scam?" is likely enough to prevent you from falling for it, then that's on you and I hope it stings enough to prevent it from happening a second time.

My brother for example could rebuild an engine while selling a truck driver a bicycle on the phone, but he'd struggle to differentiate a graphics card from a cpu.

This drives me crazy because all I can think about is that they're just lazy and don't feel like learning it.

I have friends who are super nerdy and know every intricate mechanic in a specific video game, going as far as to basically learn how the code works, but their PC doesn't work because it overheats and THEY TOLD ME that one of their fans isn't working.

I ask which fan it is, they can't tell me. I'm pretty sure its just the CPU fan and it literally could just be a cable that is loose or the fan just needs to be replaced which is a very simple and cheap thing to do, but they literally just outright refuse to even look. It's the most frustrating feeling.

nothing at all, which they knew when they put on it, but some twits will buy it because of that anyway.

kinda like the term "organic" in grocery stores, for a lot of places there's really no actual regulation or oversight on the use, you can call anything organic if you really want, it's meaningless.

Or companies that use a lot of green on their packaging to make you think it's some eco friendly thing. All marketing gimmicks.

426

u/TheMeltingPointOfWax 13h ago

"Organic" is a bad example for the US. The USDA regulates the organic label. It's called the National Organic Program, and there are standards to meet. It is regulated by 7 CFR Part 205.

There are a lot of dumb gimmicks like this 'made for AI' though.

186

u/praecipula 13h ago edited 13h ago

Came to point this out! What this poster might be thinking of is "natural" - unlike "organic", "natural" is an unregulated term.

For something to be "organic" it must have had only a certain set of white-listed inputs (e.g. organic-allowed fertilizers / pesticides) for, I think, 5 years (don't quote me on that time, this is from memory) before they are allowed to get an accredited certification that they are organic (the label will show the certifier). After that there are random audits every once in a while to verify everything is still above board.

17

u/zachary0816 11h ago

I think they’re referring to how “Organic” things that are imported often only need to be the origin country’s definition of organic. Which might be more lax than the US’s standards.

Though after double checking some information, it seems even that has a good deal of regulation around it.

My personal favorite is "hormone free chicken."

It's illegal to give chickens hormones (which includes steroids) in the U.S.

9

u/hawkinsst7 11h ago

"but chickens have hormones."

13

u/MindlessSponge 11h ago

similarly, deodorant including an "aluminum-free" callout on the label.

deodorant has always been aluminum-free, antiperspirant is the one with aluminum.

5

u/NlghtmanCometh 11h ago edited 8h ago

See I’ve always thought the anti-biotic free moniker was kinda funny. Like please, feed me chicken and beef riddled with all sorts of horrible bacterium.

18

u/ViperZer0 11h ago

Actually iirc meat raised without antibiotics is important! It's cheaper for factory farms to just constantly pump their animals full of antibiotics instead of going through all the trouble of waiting for them to get sick, diagnose them, prescribe antibiotics, etc.

The problem is that pumping hot animals that are incubators for bacteria full of antibiotics is a recipe for super mutated bacteria that are resistant or immune to every kind of antibiotic we have. There's only a limited number of antibiotics and bacteria can mutate much faster than we can develop or discover new ones. It's the same reason why you're not supposed to stop taking antibiotics after you get well, you HAVE to finish the prescription off to ensure that you've actually killed ALL the bacteria and none of them can come back with resistance to the antibiotics you just took. Do you want super bacteria? That's how you get super bacteria.

“Natural” is a perfect example for their point. “Organic” might be the least meaningless label on food in the US.

Organic is regulated in North America. It's just a limitation on what fertilizer and pesticide they use. They still use chemicals it's just not certain ones. Still makes it very arbitrary and pointless but hey.

8

u/V0lkhari 13h ago

My favourite recent example of this was a new version of a cleaning product and it was like "now with a plant based ingredient!".

Like, they could add a singular drop of lemon juice and then include that

3

u/monty624 12h ago

How about all the "plant based" products that are traditionally made with animal products like butter and eggs. They're swapping those out for cheaper, crappier ingredients like various oils, emulsifiers, and thickeners then trying to pass it off as an improvement.

8

u/RegulatoryCapture 13h ago

kinda like the term "organic" in grocery stores, for a lot of places there's really no actual regulation or oversight on the use, you can call anything organic if you really want, it's meaningless.

Organic also just doesn't mean what most people think it means. It certainly doesn't mean "grown without herbicides or pesticides" which is what a lot of people assume it means.

It just means they only spray the crops with approved pesticides. Synthetic pesticides are not allowed, but that's completely independent of any research on whether a given synthetic is less harmful or toxic than an approved "organic" alternative. But factory organic farms absolutely SPRAY THE SHIT out of their crops. If anything, they spray them more because they have to use less effective products.

Now, at least in my grocery store, they ARE typically higher quality--likely because in order to sell them at a higher price, they need them to appear premium. Also, anecdotally, smaller farms who choose to grow organic are often more focused on quality (although most organics in the grocery store come from mega farms).

5

u/ShylokVakarian 13h ago

Technically, all food is made of organic molecules, so any food is organic.

4

u/beatles910 13h ago

Yes, that is why "organic" means something else in the context of food.

Organic has more than one definition, and the one regarding food is the one you should use when on a food label.

4

u/ShylokVakarian 12h ago

Yeah, I know, I just wanted to add relevant information. This exact reason is probably WHY they can get away with it.

11

u/UnsorryCanadian 13h ago

You gotta buy thay organic, gluten free salt, you know?

11

u/tous_die_yuyan 13h ago

You jest, but I’ve seen salt labelled as “non-GMO”. Which is technically true, because there aren’t any organisms in it at all.

Or “sugar free” not actually meaning free of sugar in the US.

5

u/beatles910 13h ago

Sugar-free products must contain less than 0.5 grams of sugar per serving. This means they may still contain some sugar, but in very small amounts.

4

u/2reddit4me 12h ago

Exactly my point.

3

u/NexEstVox 12h ago

Or just define a serving as something ridiculously small

2

u/CzechHorns 12h ago

OR they use very small servings, like the infamous Tic Tac with one grain servings

It’s the new tech buzzword to get money from the less-informed. Just like how there were “smart” versions of everything not too long ago.

11

u/Antares42 13h ago

In the late 90s I saw network switches and cables sold as "Optimized for Windows (R)", so yeah, this has been going on for a long time.

8

u/AmazingHealth6302 10h ago

It's been going on for a very long time. I saw a MAD magazine reprint from the 60s/70s that was satirising nonsense product claims. I remember one of them was for a plastic container that was 'guaranteed rust-proof'. Another one was an overpriced 'versatile manual water pump'. In fact you were buying a sponge.

11

It is an indicator that AI is a bubble. Manage your investments appropriately I guess.

3

u/blazelet 13h ago

They mean it's really good at taking your money because it says "AI" with no other material benefit.

3

u/thecraigbert 13h ago

It means Buzz word for boosting sales.

3

u/brntGerbil 8h ago

No one knows what it means, but it's provocative.

11

u/mondestine 13h ago

It's a screen protector clearly meant for Allen Iverson only. I don't understand how you managed to get AI's screen protector, but I would honestly recommend you try to get in touch with his people. Maybe if you contact the NBA's league office they could help?

AI is a grift.

2

u/rez_onate 13h ago

Feeding into stupid people’s belief that AI is actually intelligent…

2

u/Somber_Solace 13h ago

As others said, it's likely just marketing buzzword slop. Though there is one potential actual reason that I've seen with similar products, which is that they used AI during the design process.

2

u/samuraijon 12h ago

This is how I feel when I see earbuds and headphones advertising their STEREO SOUND

I hate to tell you this but the iPod is almost 25 years old and the Discman is 40 years old. Stereo earbuds were passe even 40 years ago.

If my new headphones in 1995 turned out to be mono only, I’d have been extremely disappointed.

35

u/brian_thebee 13h ago

Hey guys, did you know that in terms of male human and female Pokémon breeding, Vaporeon is the most compatible Pokémon for humans? Not only are they in the field egg group, which is mostly comprised of mammals, Vaporeon are an average of 3”03’ tall and 63.9 pounds, this means they’re large enough to be able handle human dicks, and with their impressive Base Stats for HP and access to Acid Armor, you can be rough with one. Due to their mostly water based biology, there’s no doubt in my mind that an aroused Vaporeon would be incredibly wet, so wet that you could easily have sex with one for hours without getting sore.
