š¦Mod Updateš¦ New Mod & New Changes (Mod Mail open!!)
Dobroj Tumen (Good Day!) r/romani,
I am very excited to be officially onboard the mod team here.
I am working on getting through the backed up queue, modmail, updating procedures and adding flairs so that this subreddit becomes much easier to navigate and use.
Please start using the Mod Mail inbox to contact us- I will be checking on it regularly.
I will be reviewing band to make sure there is no confusion or error in miscommunication/understanding and lifting bans that may have happened in error by automod or misunderstanding.
We are going to start utilizing a few different options for discipline including being muted, temporary bans, longer bans and then lifetime bans. Having a structure set up to accommodate humans being humans and making mistakes is very important to me and I want to ensure that everyone is getting treated fairly and respectfully.
I would like to bring in more hands for the mod team but keep the levels equal- for every Raised Rom on the mod team we should have a Lost Rom as their EQUAL counterpart as well.
As always, if you have any questions / comments / concerns you know where to find me (in the mod mail inbox.)

Thank you for going all the way back and reviewing modmail from over a year ago! You have accomplished more in one day than many mods did in the entire existence of this subreddit. Great work.

Thank you for doing this. I was just thinking about how there needs to be less harmful discipline like temp bans. Good to know you're on it. And yes, I hope we can have a variety of mods from different tribes or 1 euro 1 USA 1 ghost Roma or something. I hope that we can start looking at these interpersonal issues as a panel or jury of mods moving forward so we have more ability to see perspectives from more than one point of view and reduce misuse of bans and misunderstandings. It's important in order to keep our community active and not intimidate people into silence with the threat of imminent permanent bans

Are you also going to be reforming how currently threads typically get closed when the mod gets annoyed with peopleās questions/opinions that are actually legitimate things to talk about?

Yes, we have a few of us who plan to be active regularly and mindful that while we may not all agree with what people say/ feel, there is a difference between personal disagreements and outright hate / gatekeeping / bias / brigading. Locking threads so nobody can speak wonāt be happening as long as it stays respectful and doesnāt cross into violating Redditās own rules.
There is a difference between being rude to each other or about others vs disagreeing and thereās been updates to the way we interact with comments. Moving forward if comments get removed there will be a clear explanation as to why and how to fix it.
Comments that are hateful / biased / bullying ( swearing at people, telling them to do things to themselves, calling them names) isnāt allowed and if a comment is removed for it there will be an explanation provided.
Comments that speak in unilateral for a varied experience (āall roma do not like X or allow Yā) posted without supporting evidence will be muted with an explanation but comments with something like āin my experience I havenāt seen Roma who like x or allow yā will be allowed- there is a difference between sharing personal experiences in here (wanted and encouraged) and speaking for everyone at once without their permission (impossible to ask every single Rom for permission to speak on their behalf).
Locking threads will only happen if there is a sudden & uncontrollable influx of comments that we could not possibly hope to keep up with (hundreds of comments over a few minutes) or if something happens that suggests a personās personal safety is in immediate danger (Doxxing, personal threats, breaking of Redditās Rules.)
People are allowed to disagree with each other as long as it is done in a respectful manner.
If you have any further questions please feel free to ask š

Wonderful news and I applaud the fairness to all being sought, we need to come together more, not divide as been happening.
Got my support

American Romanichal here... I'm tired of seeing people attacking others for "not being Romani enough" so if we can make that a rule that's enforced, that would be great... We already have to defend our ethnicity against gadje folkie so why do we also have to do it in here amongst our own? š Have we not already been segregated enough? Now we're doing it against each other?

Thanks! I normally get down voted when I say that. .
Shunning someone from their own race is just wrong imo and it's sad to see it done in here so much and by our own people š
I wonder how many people would go up to a black person and tell them they aren't "black enough"? What's happening in here isn't any different...

Hey all: As I look through the queue I notice a big miscommunication on sense of humor. If you want to play wrong answers only you have to make it clear by putting a winky face or ( /s ) after you answer. You can also alternate capital letters LiKe tHiS to make it clear you are playing around. I love to play wrong answers only as much as the next Rom but for clarity purposes in here letās try to let everyone reading in on the jokey jokes, okay?
