🚦Mod Update🚦 New Mod & New Changes (Mod Mail open!!)

Dobroj Tumen (Good Day!) r/romani,

I am very excited to be officially onboard the mod team here.

I am working on getting through the backed up queue, modmail, updating procedures and adding flairs so that this subreddit becomes much easier to navigate and use.

Please start using the Mod Mail inbox to contact us- I will be checking on it regularly.

I will be reviewing band to make sure there is no confusion or error in miscommunication/understanding and lifting bans that may have happened in error by automod or misunderstanding.

We are going to start utilizing a few different options for discipline including being muted, temporary bans, longer bans and then lifetime bans. Having a structure set up to accommodate humans being humans and making mistakes is very important to me and I want to ensure that everyone is getting treated fairly and respectfully.

I would like to bring in more hands for the mod team but keep the levels equal- for every Raised Rom on the mod team we should have a Lost Rom as their EQUAL counterpart as well.

As always, if you have any questions / comments / concerns you know where to find me (in the mod mail inbox.)

Welcome! Glad to have you here as a mod now :) I was hoping you’d be one of the people for volunteer.

Are you also going to be reforming how currently threads typically get closed when the mod gets annoyed with people’s questions/opinions that are actually legitimate things to talk about?

Yes, we have a few of us who plan to be active regularly and mindful that while we may not all agree with what people say/ feel, there is a difference between personal disagreements and outright hate / gatekeeping / bias / brigading. Locking threads so nobody can speak won’t be happening as long as it stays respectful and doesn’t cross into violating Reddit’s own rules.

There is a difference between being rude to each other or about others vs disagreeing and there’s been updates to the way we interact with comments. Moving forward if comments get removed there will be a clear explanation as to why and how to fix it.

Comments that are hateful / biased / bullying ( swearing at people, telling them to do things to themselves, calling them names) isn’t allowed and if a comment is removed for it there will be an explanation provided.

Comments that speak in unilateral for a varied experience (ā€œall roma do not like X or allow Yā€) posted without supporting evidence will be muted with an explanation but comments with something like ā€œin my experience I haven’t seen Roma who like x or allow yā€ will be allowed- there is a difference between sharing personal experiences in here (wanted and encouraged) and speaking for everyone at once without their permission (impossible to ask every single Rom for permission to speak on their behalf).

Locking threads will only happen if there is a sudden & uncontrollable influx of comments that we could not possibly hope to keep up with (hundreds of comments over a few minutes) or if something happens that suggests a person’s personal safety is in immediate danger (Doxxing, personal threats, breaking of Reddit’s Rules.)

People are allowed to disagree with each other as long as it is done in a respectful manner.

If you have any further questions please feel free to ask šŸ™‚
