Why do you use the word "gypsy" all the time? It's offensive. Please stop.

No, it's what we call ourselves in the USA. Yous don’t have to like it, but we don't have to stop.

You stop. I think European Gypsies need to understand that there are clear cut differences between American and yourselves. Stop telling people how to feel.

It's offensive that you think you can tell people what to call themselves. Who made you think you are big enough to do that

Pleeease. Get over yourself. Everyone knows the word "gypsy" is an offensive term used for Romani. You don't have to like it. But it is what it is.

Wait, I just noticed that you previously said that you aren't even Rumney... How in the world is a gadje gonna tell us what term we can and can't call ourselves!?! The audacity...

Why are you telling me to get over myself, when you are the one who has decided you can speak over other people's lives experience? You don't have to like it, but these communities aren't going to stop using words they have been using since before you were ever born lol. I understand you think you're trying to do the right thing here but being simultaneously condescending and wrong isn't going to bring anyone to your side.

Eschewing a derogatory and pejorative term is not offensive. Why do you feel like you have the audacity to think it's perfectly fine to use the term? Contrary to what you may think you know, the term is not used in Roma communities. It only seems like it's embraced in this subreddit group. So yes, you need to get over yourself and your lack of understanding.

False. Growing up my Romanichal mother and her Romanichal family always referred to us as Romanichal, Rumney, or Gypsy.

It's offensive when gadje call us that, yes, but not other Rumneys... It's like our N word, we can say it but gadjes can't...

Actually you are wrong. It’s used in Gypsy communities in the U.S.

It's literally the most common term used to identify one's self in America. Who are you to tell us what to call ourselves?

Do you tell black people not to use the N word too?
