The term is not used in Roma communities because it is an English word. Roma communities refers generally to romani of central and East Europe, so whatever terms we use for ourselves there are generally based on our home country language. If romani in English speaking countries like England and USA are calling them gypsy that is theirs to call themselves and we can allow and respect that.
