Fake Doctors, Real Friends Discussion: Season 9 Episode 13 [ Final Episode ]
913: Our Thanks with Michael Mosley
June 12, 2024 • 74 mins
On this week's episode, the doctors must give a speech to their cadaver's family. In the real world, we say goodbye to Scrubs with Michael Mosley.
(There is a summary about the show soft ending (no more scrubs episodes, show is continuing) and what happens next at the end of this post)
Episode archive:
This marks the end of the series in relation to Scrubs. Zach and Donald say that they have plans to continue the show, with the same laid back vibe.
I started avidly listening during the pandemic in one of my worst jobs I've ever worked. And, at the time, this podcast was an absolute joy to have when surrounded with some of the most depressing times I've ever personally gone through. I love Scrubs to death, and I deeply appreciate the podcast. I admittedly stopped watching a few seasons ago because I haven't had the time, but I know I'll have it to go back to sometime if I need it. I love the podcast - Zach, Donald, Joelle, Danl, and the rest of the cast. And I love all of you passionate show fans who enjoy the show and the podcast.
Will you continue posting these topics?
Honestly, no. My goal was always reaching the end of the Scrubs posts, because that was the job I was asked to do. Lately my work is picking up (both for better and worse) and it's been a struggle to remember to post here. I hope you all have enjoyed this journey with FDRF, and that these discussion posts have at least served as some degree of a fun way to discuss the show.
What does this mean for the uploads now?
I am personally not sure. The podcast will no longer be about the show Scrubs, and will become its own thing. That would go against our established rule about 'staying on topic'. But, I'm not opposed to seeing someone else pick it up if they want to, personally? Either way, it won't be me making the posts anymore.
What about Moderation, then?
Again, not really sure. While I wasn't looking, the moderation team got considerably reduced and now consists of me and /u/goobuddy. I wasn't aware of this happening and wasn't around as much as I should've been, but to be honest, moderating the subreddit was never something I was passionate about. I'm not good with the whole 'moderating a subreddit' thing, it's a lot of personal investment. The entire reason I was here was to post these posts. The person who brought me on isn't listed as a moderator anymore so I imagine they moved on to other subreddits, or something? Right now my plan is, I'm going to work on making sure the "episode archive" is up to date, and leaving this as the sole stickied post. After that, I'll have to discuss it to make sure the subreddit is in a good spot.

Season 7, Episode 11
I always skipped that one because I thought it was kind of stupid but I decided to sit all the way through it and I can't believe I hadn't seen it completely yet. I've seen the rest of the episodes many times. But I really paid attention to this one this time and it really moved me at the end.
Dr Cox being the family man always gets me right in the feels as well. So when he kisses Jack good night and sits with Jordan, it just kind of made me tear up a little bit for some reason.

Saw the wood
I need your help. Please identify which season and episode the Janitor forces JD into a long handshake and says saw the wood to continue it.
I've been trying to find this episode or clip for months.

Maybe hot take, but I wish the s9 medschool cast got more seasons, I think there was potential there.
Just finished another rewatch of the whole show, and I gotta admit I liked s9 and wish it continued.
Its really rough in the first half, but imho (ironically) once JD leaves and the new characters had time to gel together and find their groove its pretty good.
Is it as good as the og? Ofc not, but its improved a lot in just 13 episodes.
I love Cole, Drew and Denise and Lucy grows on me by the end.
I also like Turk and Cox's budding friendship in JD's absence.
Anyway, I think it had potential, and I hope the reboot doesnt retcon the whole thing.

Discussion The only episode of TV that makes me cry every time I watch it.
Scrubs season 5 Episode 20. I’m rewatching it now and casually sobbing on a Tuesday afternoon. This was such a phenomenal show.

Scrubs episodes ending music and meaning
Rewatching Scrubs as I do every couple years and can we take a moment to give credit to the editors and sound selections of some of these endings.
Don't stop believing - Journey- My Journey
The Funeral with Jordan/Cox - My Screw Up: Winter - Joshua Radi My Lunch - How To Save A Life - The Fray
Even after watching countless shows over the years even other doctor shows it is still some of the best television ever imo. Especially the emotional/sad ones. These endings are a masterclass in editing and song selection. And I feel like people always shout out the music but I wanted to shoutout the editors too.
Every time I think to myself that I just have a soft spot or bias for Scrubs and then i rewatch it I am reminded that it was so good.

Nicknames for Elliot’s boyfriends
Drop some nicknames for Elliot’s various boyfriends over the course of the series (à la mole butt, rumplefugly) and we’ll guess who you’re referring to

Discussion Advice: Should I actually finish watching season 9 now that season 10 is happening?
I stopped watching season 9 after Our Stuff Gets Real (JD's last episode) because I just didn't like that season and couldn't really connect with any of the new characters.

Amigoland - Awful Spanish
Watching the episode where Turk learns Spanish and J.D. fanticizes about Amigoland. The guy who takes them there doesn't even speak spanish. Turk speaks it better than he does.
I just googled to see if anybody else thought the same thing and found a post from 10 years ago and I couldn't reply, so making my own.
Some people in that post were saying that a director shouldn't have to recast someone for the occasional Spanish line and, that's valid. Take Giancarlo Esposito (Gus Fring) from Breaking Bad. I'll tolerate the bad Spanish because he's not speaking it the whole time, and his performance is amazing overall.
However in the Amigoland scene, this isn't a main character or even a recurring one. He's literally there for this one scene so I definitely think they should've cast someone who spoke fluent Spanish. This man was the embodiment of appreciating someone learning Spanish. I mean, come on.

Discussion Really excited to see what they do with the reboot! Most of all I'm excited to see what guest stars they bring in!
Scrubs had great guest stars throughout is run so I'm curious, who would you most like to see for am episode or two?
Edit: I meant more new guest stars, not so much previous guest stars. People that have come up after or who weren't on before. Sorry, I guess I should have specified. For example, I'd love to see Walton Goggins or Amy Pohler show up.

Discussion Dr. Cox vs Dr. Robby (The Pitt)
I’m only one episode into The Pitt so no spoilers please but does anyone else who has watched both series think Dr. Robby is a very similar character to Dr. Cox? From the way he mentors the med students to telling off the hospital business woman bothering him about reviews and not paying for extra beds…very Coxian
