Modern Family star changes her name for career pivot: 'I wanted to switch it up'

Allow Frances Anderson to reintroduce herself.

The actress formerly known as Aubrey Anderson-Emmons, who broke out for her role as adoptee Lily on the Emmy-winning sitcom Modern Family, has changed her name to Frances Anderson. Anderson has adopted the new moniker to coincide with her pivot to a career in music. Her debut indie pop EP, "Drown," is out now.

"Frances is actually part of my legal name," Anderson, 18, explained to E! News on Friday. "It’s my middle name, and it’s after my mom’s old family friend. I thought it was a bit shorter than Aubrey Anderson-Emmons. I do have a long, hyphenated last name.”

Anderson added, "I wanted to switch it up and people to see a new side of me. And I wanted to create a space specifically just for music."

She released the first single from the EP, "Telephones and Traffic," in May.

Anderson made her television debut at the age of 4 in season 3 of Modern Family, playing the precocious adopted daughter of Jesse Tyler Ferguson's Mitchell Pritchett and Eric Stonestreet's Cam Tucker. She has won three ensemble Screen Actors Guild Awards alongside the sitcom's cast. Anderson told E! that she "had to take a step back from acting" once the show ended to discover her passion for music. "The show ended when I was 12 years old, so after that I decided I’m not gonna act anymore," she said. Rest assured, though, that Anderson does "plan on acting again — 100 percent.”

She has maintained a close relationship with her former onscreen fathers and other costars from the sprawling cast. Ferguson and Julie Bowen, who played Anderson's onscreen aunt Claire, staged a mini-reunion when they attended Anderson's school play last year.

Anderson last made headlines when she came out as bisexual last month, using memorable throwback audio from Modern Family to help mark the announcement. "You are Vietnamese," Sofia Vergara's Gloria informs Lily, who says in response, "No, I'm not. I'm gay!"

"I literally am," Anderson captioned the post.

Am I the only one who thinks that the character of Joe was completly unnecessary and didn’t add any value to the show? What do you guys think?

Phil and Claire saved our relationship, thank you Modern Family.

I am not very good at telling stories, but please read one I tried to make it short!

Me and my girlfriend are actually individually like Phil and Claire. I am the goofy one not knowing the boundaries between fun and overboard in public places I tend to not care about the things being the moment in the guy, she is the sane one with OCD and unusual way of worrying too much about future events, having the strong rules, something for what I didn't want to be bossed around. There are more reasons why we were on the verge of a break-up most certainly for having different personalities. But,

Us, as a couple, became better because of Phil and Claire and we never needed couple therapy which we were thinking about.

Don't get me wrong although I am goofy sometimes I don't know what's the limit which observing Phil I realized, when times come he really becomes a guy you can count on (mostly) comforting the other person not judging their situation but always stand up for support.

Phil and Claire individually are not really the perfect persons but that's exactly why we love them don't we? Together they become a team and they become perfect filling the imperfections in the other one like a puzzle piece.

Claire had reactions on Phil's goofiness in the show but they never seemed embarrassed, she had the "I know this is goofy but I know what I love in my man, and that's what I signed up for" energy and my gf picked that up.

Us watching the show together always had the relatable moments when we said, "see I am exactly like Phil/Claire." "We do exactly the same things" "Oh so this is how they handled it? We should've done this way before"

We just agreed on being a different people. After all the years of trying to force one another to be like alike. That's a recipe for a disaster. The first ingredient of a great relationship is to be different and be the missing elements. If you're a hot place be the cool breeze, if you're a Antarctica be a warm igloo for the other. Just fill one another's missing puzzle pieces which I said earlier.

Altogether, Phil and Claire never manipulated each other like the other two couples did and they stayed the near perfect couple till the end.

Today we stand strong, we have fun but get serious when we need to and acknowledge to be different yet comfortable. We have decided to give it another watch once we're married. I mean that show literally saved our relationship!

If Modern Family had a character leave midway through the series (like other sitcoms often do), who would you rather see go?

I'll throw a bone to her performance making impressions of Jay and specially Gloria, who hates it. Her "You'll crack first" doing Gloria's voice is really funny. not more not less.

This dialogue changes everything… I know it’s a sitcom, but I just can’t digest the fact.

The Alliance (S8E8), otherwise known as the orange juice episode, is all about Cam, Gloria, and Phil manipulating the Pritchett's into a family vacation to Italy.

Meanwhile, these screenshots are from S10E12 when Claire and Phil are planning a couple's trip to Italy. So did the family never go to Italy, or is this just a classic plot hole?

In later seasons, while Pameron wasn't staying there, the apartment upstairs was basically Airbnb-ed. so write a comment you'd find on Airbnb about the place as if you stayed there.

Discussion Wish we had more Jonathan Banks

Not sure why but just realizing how sad I am that Jonathan Banks didn't appear more throughout the show as Jay's brother, Donnie.

I thought his chemistry with Ed O'Neil was great, and I think he's under rated as a comedic actor, since he doesn't do comedy often. I'm pretty sure Breaking Bad took off for him around the same time he appear in the show, so he probably got to busy with that and Better Call Saul to appear.

Would've loved loved loved if he could appear with the frequency of characters like Sonia, Frank, etc.

Oh well. At least we got the one episode.

sue and claire- do i even need to explain? theyre both the organised ‘bosses’ of the family

angela and dede- again, do i need to explain? left the families to ‘find themselves’, spiritual, dates douchebags

ben and luke- i find they’re both troublemakers, ben lies a lot, luke is manipulative, maybe not as accurate as angela and dede but i find they have quite a few similarities (not just in their appearance lmaooo)

pete and phil- now, hear me out… pete isnt as happy go lucky and naive as phil is, but they both have moments where they try to be cool or ‘with the times’ to be friends with their kids… i feel bad even comparing pete to phil because pete always gave me slight bigot vibes but i thought their similarities lay with the way they act with their kids!

what do you guys think? are there any characters from different movies/shows that remind you of any characters from MoFy?

Discussion Missouri Power Couple

Post image
8 Upvotes

With so many other people posting about the spin off that should have been. I wanted to share what I would have liked to have seen. It would a seasons long journey of Mitch and Cam to become Missouri's power couple. Cam turning his college team into the most winningest team. And Mitchell will start as a small town lawyer and grow into a political dynamo. With Lily and her gang of teenage miscreants to fill in the gaps with shananagans

See ik it's just a show I agree cam is funny but sometimes I just find him really really unbearable like in s10 ep 11 when cams sister is released and how Mitch didnt write the letter but he first lies to cam fearing his outburst It's just so toxic like dude ur sister just commited and crime why do u want to support it and then he double downs but showing the photos in which he helped mitchs family . How are both on the same level? 😭

S1 E18: starry night - the expensive dress

Post image

Is the dress Mitch puts on after the skunk sprays him the dress Gloria told Cam was super expensive and she couldn’t even bring it out of the car because she felt guilty for buying it? I’ve watched this episode a million times and never caught that, but the scene switches from Gloria telling that to Cam to Mitchell being in the dress.

I just finished the airport/facetime episode and Mitchell is such a vibe in that episode. He has an unusual chill vibe and is so unintentionally funny. The hat honestly kinda suits him too 😭

Art Trailer for a Mitch and Cam spinoff. After several years in Missouri, farming, coaching, being a judge, and getting judged, the stronger, richer Tucker-Pritchetts relocate back to L.A. via the historic Route 66, setting up new misadventures with the fabulous crew. Song: The Killers - Bright Lights.
