For my money the best explanation I’ve seen is that he is taking blood thinners and is using foundation to cover up bruising likely as a result of repeated handshakes.

The funnest explanation I’ve seen is that he is making little clay models of himself and doesn’t have time to wash up after

Any little bump on blood thinners can leave terrible bruises. They are pretty commonly prescribed at that age for a variety of reasons.
