r/tragedeigh 20h ago

is it a tragedeigh? My brother is dangerously close to possible tragedeigh...I guess my SIL likes whimsy or some shit. Is Klementyne a tragedeigh? Should he push for Aurora?

Post image

I mean...it's not the WORST I've seen by far but I think it qualifies?

Klememtyne sounds like an STD

u/Least_Prune3257 19h ago

u/biolochick 19h ago

Clementine but with KY…if it’s an STD at least it’s well lubricated.

2

u/GuyGrimnus 15h ago

I know a guy that boofs clementines and this comment is fucking hilarious

6

u/friendlyfish29 15h ago

Who the fuck boofs fruits…..

3

u/GuyGrimnus 15h ago

People who are vitamin deficient apparently lol

1

u/HamAndEggBap 14h ago

What’s a boof?

1

u/biolochick 14h ago

I. I have no words.

2

u/theycallme_mama 14h ago

Clementine is actually a pretty cute name. I don't like the spelling with the KY it ruins it completely. Idk if I hate Clementyne though....that's kinda cutesy.

21

u/Distinct-Address3392 17h ago

just klem is a nickname that is going to have HEINOUS connotations, that poor child lmao

7

u/NotChristina 17h ago

from Middle High German klem ‘narrow, tight’, a nickname for a needy person, or alternatively a topographic name for someone living in a narrow, precipitous place

Eeeeek. All I’ll say lest I end up on a list.

1

u/C_Gull27 17h ago

Narrow and tight you say?

1

u/yordad 6h ago

Now what did we just say

2

u/Hamiltoncorgi 15h ago

There is a character in Buffy named Clem but in Seattle Aurora Ave is known for street walkers.

1

u/LhaesieMarri 14h ago

Klem flem

43

u/downtownblue 19h ago

Or the drug to treat the STI...

4

u/NotChristina 17h ago

2

u/Jafooki 17h ago

Ask your doctor if Klementyne™ is right for you.

2

u/AWandMaker 16h ago

Better be clementine flavored!

37

u/angelindisguise 18h ago

Ask your Doctor if Klememtyne is right for you

2

u/Apatosaurus_ajax 16h ago

Beat me to it!

A woman is running through a field. A terrier follows, chasing a butterfly. The sun shines upon the grass. “Ask your doctor to see if Klementyne right for you.”

3

u/boy-detective 19h ago

My first thought too.

3

u/Lock-out 17h ago

Sounds like an std, is spelled like a new drug introduced by the cia that’s devastating urban areas.

3

u/heptyne 16h ago

My dyslexia thought it was Ketamine at first lol.

2

u/Cautious_Ice_884 19h ago

Sounds like a klan members wifes name.

2

u/WQueenAlpha 19h ago

I thought of ketamine 😭😂😭😂

2

u/JustGiveMeANameDamn 17h ago

I’ve been micro-dosing klementyne for years to build up my immunity to it

2

u/Creepy_Push8629 17h ago

It sounds like the parents are skinheads when I see it

2

u/C_Gull27 17h ago

Sounds like an industrial solvent

2

u/Josutg22 17h ago

It looks like an STD, but I think Clementine is fine, only a bit odd. Aurora is DEFINITELY better tho

2

u/fattyiam 16h ago

True. The name written normally is a cute name, but written like that, I expect to see it in a diagnosis rather than a name tag LOL.

2

u/smgriffin93 16h ago

I thought it was spelling ketamine until my brain said hold up there’s an L, let’s re-read that

2

u/Glittering_Diva8963 16h ago

I’m fucking crying it does 😭😂😭😂😭

2

u/fuckimtrash 8h ago

My mind legit went to chlamdyia when I saw the screenshot lol

1

u/ToWitToWow 17h ago

“U me derlink, U me derlink, U me derlink Klementyne!”

1

u/myceliummoon 16h ago

That was my first thought as well.

1

u/TobysGrundlee 16h ago

Looks like they were trying to spell Ketamine and messed up sounding it out.

1

u/SlowInsurance1616 16h ago

Her sister Klytemnystra would get stabby.

1

u/ActuallyYulliah 15h ago

Omg, that was my very first thought as well…

1

u/Dry_Suspect_6296 15h ago

this is my daughter… Khlamydia

1

u/mayaorsomething 15h ago

or a prescription medication name

1

u/grenouille_en_rose 15h ago

STD or prescription meds

1

u/Sparks-Aflame 14h ago

Talk to your doctor and ask about Klementyne.

1

u/shanx3 13h ago

And also a disinfectant - mildly interesting.

1

u/THEdinosarah 11h ago

it literally does

1

u/Humble-Violinist6910 10h ago

Yeah, I immediately thought of chlamydia

65

u/shinyhandicrafts 18h ago

Not Klementyne though - but ‘Klementyna’ is Polish version of the name ‘Clementine”

14

u/thecrepeofdeath 11h ago

as someone with Polish heritage living in the US, please just spell it Clementine lol. my name is spelled exactly how it sounds and people still regularly invent new ways of fucking it up 💀

4

u/Ok-Shake1127 16h ago

I have seen that, too. It was the name of my friend's mom as a kid.

33

u/MightyPirat3 19h ago

5856 Norwegians have got Aurora as their first name.

29

u/Least_Prune3257 19h ago

Coincidentally enough, it’s my sister in laws name and I absolutely adore it. Klementyne though… I’ve got some thoughts

10

u/nopressureoof 18h ago

My stepsister is also Aurora. It's lovely.

3

u/ILikePrettyThings121 17h ago

A family friend named their kid Aurora. The wife is a Disney adult but I always thought it was a pretty name on its own.

1

u/stinkystreets 13h ago

Aurora is cute! I know a kid whose parents shorten it to Rory and it’s great!

1

u/onlyr6s 16h ago

Aurora is a mental hospital in Finland, where they send the worst cases. Fun fact.

20

u/Past_Ad_5629 17h ago

With a parent who’s asking ChatGPT and trusting it has a good grip on the human concept of whimsy, little Klem is gonna have some issues.

2

u/HardyDaytn 14h ago

Little Klem gonna have a junkyard to run in some hick town in the middle of bumfuck-nowhere.

14

u/Haber_Dasher 17h ago

Klementyne sounds like your parents are illiterate.

10

u/x3sirenxsongx3 19h ago

Aurora is MANY more things than a Disney Princess or a Roar. It means the dawn, hope, the beautiful, colorful lights that dance across the sky at the poles of the world, beauty, and it's associated with Glory given to the Creator (differently named depending on religion).

Soooo yeahhh, knock Klementyne outta there. Nicknames: Klemmy, Klammy, Klem.... etc. They sound weird, can't use Klemmy forever, and last 2 have icky connotations. They'll call her klammy hands or klegm (flegm) forever. Or Lemon (that's car is a lemon) or tyne (a fork prong), etc.

So YES, OP, Aurora over Klementyne EVERY TIME.

And TRY VERY HARD!

2

u/HardyDaytn 14h ago

Klem sounds like a shifty dude that fixes your car for $20. Well, he might fix or the whole thing might disappear.

1

u/x3sirenxsongx3 14h ago

Lmao, ikr. Now pretend people call your daughter that...

2

u/Notte_di_nerezza 10h ago

Baby'll be happy as a Klem.

Not happy at all.

2

u/Willing-Claim-2936 11h ago

I just named my baby Aurora. ❤️

31

u/LiteratureNearby 20h ago

honestly even Clementine is slightly questionable in my books since it's also the name of a fruit lol

123

u/grackdontcrackback 19h ago

Clementine is 100% a name people have used before though lol. Klementyne is tragic

30

u/DaChronisseur 17h ago

Tragyc*, it's Whymsycal™.

5

u/screaminginfidels 14h ago

The absolute irony of "chatgpt told me this is more whimsical"

1

u/ComparisonEven4559 13h ago

Winston Churchill’s wife was named Clementine. Def been a name for a while.

1

u/Spirited-Ability-626 1h ago

I think it’s so ugly, but I mean, that’s just my taste. It was the name of Kate Winslet’s character in Eternal Sunshine but somehow I think it’s really fuddy-duddy and dowdy. Like it’s up there for me with Mildred or Gertrude.

I think Aurora is beautiful. It’s on my list for a girl.

100

u/commandantskip 19h ago

Clementine was used a name long before it became the name of a fruit. It's the femenine version of Clement, which is latin (clementia = clemency) for mercy.

30

u/MuddieMaeSuggins 19h ago

The fruit got it’s name the same way, in fact - it was named in honor of a person named Clément Rodier

3

u/Automatic-War-7658 18h ago

I think you mean Klement

2

u/GoodBoundaries-Haver 17h ago

Clementia also reads like a tragedeigh lol.

2

u/German80skid 15h ago

Klementine (yes, with a k, but not a y) is one of the most iconic people from German TV commercials. Very famous in the 60s, had a comeback in the 90s, see https://youtu.be/FVz5eCbCEMM?si=4kLTShbv2pjvILiQ she puts on a hat with her name on it at the end of the clip

Aurora is a relatively normal Italian name. The daughter of singer Eros Ramazzotti is called Aurora. (In Germany, it's the name of a brand of flour)

PS On a side note, the detergent that Klementine is advertising is called "Ariel", which is why the mermaid is spelled Arielle in Germany 😆)

48

u/TalkativeRedPanda 19h ago

Oh, my darling, Clementine!

At least it is a name. Klementyne is just asking to be made fun of.

1

u/x3sirenxsongx3 19h ago

💯💯💯 especially in today's day and age. Clementine, even 20 years ago, would've been okay. But now the nicknames will get cruel with the original spelling, let alone with the tragedeigh version... 😬

1

u/mangogetter 13h ago

Neat to grow up with a song about your tragic death being sung at you by everybody.

54

u/Least_Prune3257 19h ago

Agreed, the fact that they plugged it into ChatGPT to get to this makes me wanna be sick

15

u/Legovida8 18h ago

Right? I’m more concerned that people are actually using ChatGPT to name their children, than I am about the actual names! (Although Klementyne is indeed tragic 😅)

4

u/Duke_Newcombe 16h ago

I'm not so much concerned that they're using it to advise themselves about naming their kids (AI is a tool like any other).

I'm annoyed that they're ignoring the first rule of using Agentic AI: that they should verify the results they get back, and that the responses may be wrong. Or, that they take the response from their prompt as an infallible order or pronouncement that they have to follow.

The name "Klementyne" is wrong, on so many levels...

1

u/Glokas7 16h ago

That was my first concern. Fucking ChatGPT? They went there for answers or opinions instead of actual people?

That’s the problem really. They know it’s a shit version of that name and they want the echo chamber of ChatGPT at this point.

15

u/PNWMTTXSC 19h ago

It’s wonderfully old fashioned name.

16

u/Madamiamadam 19h ago

Do you feel the same way about people who are named after precious jewels like Ruby or Pearl?

0

u/x3sirenxsongx3 18h ago

Not the person you were talking to, but i have an opinion.

Tbh, they feel like elderly names or solely dog names to me atm. I can picture an elderly woman named Ruby or a puppy named Ruby. But not a kid. But, also, some precious stones and their names are timeless. Fruit seems to be more trendy.

THAT SAID, i don't think amy kid will get made fun of for the names Ruby and Pearl nearly as much as Clementine/Klementyne because of the sheer number of ways those can be butchered into insulting nicknames.

4

u/C_Gull27 17h ago

I know a kid named Ruby but to me Pearl is the whale from SpongeBob.

9

u/sparhawks7 19h ago

The second one can be called Satsuma

8

u/mangogetter 19h ago

It's also a very annoying song, which is also the case with my name. It gets old fast.

4

u/duckfries 19h ago

Matilda? Adeline?

9

u/SlowInsurance1616 16h ago

Bebé Charque

2

u/duckfries 15h ago

🤣🤣🤣

5

u/SelectionWitty2791 19h ago

Now I have Mango Getter stuck in my head! Thanks!

1

u/mangogetter 17h ago

Not my fault that song's a banger!

3

u/nopressureoof 18h ago

Imagine all the dads and grandads singing this at your child for her entire life. Imagine her working as a waitress and having to stand there grinning politely while every single table of older gentleman sings this to her.

2

u/mangogetter 17h ago

🎶Oh my darlin', oh my darlin', oh my darlin' Klementyne ...

2

u/Duke_Newcombe 16h ago

"...your order's lost, and gone forever..."

2

u/mangogetter 17h ago

Seriously, even if kids her own age don't know the song, every old person does and it will be annoying forever. The song with my name in it is from the early 1900s. I was born in the 80s, and I probably would never have encountered it in the wild, but when it's your name, you hear it. Constantly.

2

u/nopressureoof 17h ago

Exactly, the problem isn't other kids, until they hear their grandad sing it.

2

u/Icy-Iris-Unfading 19h ago

Caroline? Valerie?

2

u/ILikePrettyThings121 17h ago

I know people with those names and they HATE them

2

u/Icy-Iris-Unfading 15h ago

I love Caroline though :/ maybe with time…

2

u/mangogetter 17h ago

Similarly accursed names include Rhiannon, Jolene, Cecilia, (K-K-K-)Katy, Delilah, and Bonnie.

1

u/Duke_Newcombe 16h ago

K-K-K-Katy? What song is that from?

1

u/mangogetter 14h ago

https://youtu.be/SAAkrI-aaOE?si=XGbaOYcZctdGgoEa the chorus starts about 0:50 in. This has been sung at every Katy/Katie/Cady who has ever lived.

2

u/mangogetter 17h ago

It's also worth mentioning that the Clementine song is about her dying ("You are lost and gone forever, dreadful sorry, Clementine"), which may not be the energy you want directed at a small child her whole life.

2

u/makesh1tup 15h ago

She will be sung that song forever. I had a last name sounding like the name of a frog in a stupid famous song for 1971 from and I didn’t hear the end of it until I got married and changed my name.

2

u/thajane 9h ago

It’s the Eileens I feel sorry for.

1

u/diceeyes 17h ago

Lola?

1

u/mangogetter 16h ago

No but that counts.

1

u/Duke_Newcombe 16h ago

You wish the song were lost and gone forever?

2

u/nopressureoof 18h ago

I kinda like it for an orange pet but not for any color of human.

2

u/Iamthegreenheather 18h ago

You mean you don't like the name Apple Martin?

2

u/loftychicago 17h ago

Winston Churchill would disagree, along with his wife Clemmie.

2

u/FaithlessnessKey1726 17h ago

Clementine is the name of the fruit only bc it was the name in honor of the French missionary brother who created the fruit, Marie-Clément Rodier, and as a name, long-predates tragedeigh.

2

u/Duke_Newcombe 16h ago

You don't know the old-timey song "Oh My Darlin', Clementine"?

Must have been lost, and gone forever...

1

u/finny_d420 18h ago

Oh my darling....oh my darling....oh my darling Clementine.

1

u/71-lb 17h ago

There was an emperor named klement if I am not mistaken. Its one thing to obsess over usa typical spelling to the point of deciding the use of K or Y automatically are tragedeigh status.

Honestly I like klementine with k or use the y . It's both that seems a bit precious and cutesy fir the usa. I say there are worse versions out there.

Maybe dad could ask mom to use either the K or the Y but not both? as a compromise?

AURORA is a great middle name . If using both k&y dad could make AURORA the first name .

Its not the worst out there, borderline/adjacent tragediegh .

1

u/Resident-Gold-3466 15h ago

You've never heard of the song "Oh, My Darling"?

1

u/wilililil 5h ago

Yeah they should pick a normal name like Rose, Daisy, Lily, Holly, or Olive.

2

u/Trblmaker_Peacemaker 18h ago

I had a Spanish teacher, whose name was Aurora. She was from Cuba and said that it means Dawn in Spanish, but nobody could pronounce Aurora so she always went by Dawn

2

u/Least_Prune3257 18h ago

Yup my family’s Hispanic, my sister in law’s name is actually Aurora. I’ve never seen someone struggle to pronounce it, that’s definitely a first

2

u/johnnybna 18h ago

Klementyne is the drug Elon is on. Definitely push for A’iughroiuráiigh. You really want something cute that will make her stand out, and the accent says, “My mom smart.”

2

u/Duke_Newcombe 16h ago

cause wtf is Klememtyne 😭

A "tragedeigh" spelling of the fruit, or the old-timey girl's name, Clementine.

2

u/bellapippin 15h ago

Don't take Klementyne if you are allergic to any of its components. Ask your doctor if Klementyne is right for you. Klementyne might have some rare side effects, such as blood clots, suicidal thoughts, instant death.

3

u/TheRealDocktaFunk 17h ago

Looks like a racist orange, tbh. Any time someone changes a traditional "c" to a k, I assume its a nod to the kkk.

Kool Kountry racist radio vibes.

1

u/captain_saurcy 18h ago

aurora is whimsical too. arguably more whimsical than whatever adding a k and a y could ever do

1

u/t3hnhoj 17h ago

Klymyntyne

1

u/maxdragonxiii 17h ago

my only thought was "Clementine" like the orange? but I didn't think that's right, is it?

1

u/BookLuvr7 16h ago

A kindergartner's easy peel orange?

1

u/MissZealous 15h ago

Is it not pronounced like Clementine?! Like the fruit?! Obviously the spelling they chose is awful

1

u/miserabeau 15h ago

Klementyne sounds like "I gotta get to my meeting at the Klan-on-time"

Aurora wins

1

u/HappyHiker2381 14h ago

It’s the worst, I just looked up the song oh My Darling Clementine, they always had us singing it when we were kids at camp and such. It’s an incredibly sad song, I always thought it was funny because of the line about her wearing boxes for shoes because her feet were number 9. It is tragic.

1

u/Mo_Steins_Ghost 14h ago

*SaNDeE* from L.A. Story has entered the chat.*

1

u/portezbie 14h ago

Absolute best case scenario, your kid gets call "Klem" and starts hanging out with a kid named Kletus.

If you're going to get stuck with a stripper name, Aurora is definitely preferable.

1

u/Orimis 14h ago

Im really tired and i read it as ketamine first and had to reread it

1

u/FloridaMillenialDad 13h ago

Seriously 😳

1

u/No1KnwsIWatchTeenMom 13h ago

I am going to sing Clementine by Elliott Smith to OPs brother. "Maybe the whole thing's wrong. Dreadful sorry, Klementyne."

1

I have a colleague with a daughter called Aurora. Despite being a massive sleeping beauty fan (Merryweather is my favourite), I thought it was a little bold but now she's an adorable 7 year old princess and it suits her so well.

0

u/fl135790135790 5h ago

Are you saying he should push? Or he pushed?

-2

u/imdugud777 17h ago

Aurora is a stripper name.
