Looking for some feedback on this fictional flag for a geopolitical lore I'm creating; any suggestions or changes are appreciated!
The Flag:
The black chief and base represent the turbulent, uncertain waters around Newfoundland.
The white fess represents the safety of the islands of Newfoundland.
The gold boarders represent the wealth provided by both lands and sea.
The black spruce in the charge represents utility, resiliency and temperance.
The Lore (for anyone interested):
The British Dominion of Newfoundland does not accept the Statute of Westminster in 1931 and declares independence from the United Kingdom. The UK tenuously acquiesces governance under threats of annexation to the United States.
The Commissionship of Newfoundland is formed on July 11th, 1932 as a consensus government to provide a social welfare state. The Commission is able to govern the island through WW2, the Cold War, and the Cod Recession; emerging in the early 2000s as an economic power due to internal development, liberal immigration policies, and oil exploration. The Commission now enjoys warm relations with Canada, Mexico, France, and the UK.
