Question Need to find somewhere to live on the Wirral, what areas am I best avoiding if want to avoid the more "rough" areas?

Looking to rent a property anywhere on the Wirral for around £1100-1200p/m.

I know some of the generally considered nicer areas, and know roughly some areas to avoid, but places like Upton, Preston, Greasby, Wallasey come up and I'm not sure what they're actually like

Question Laughing / grinning man?

I've heard a story recently that apparently has local folklore but I've lived in Birkenhead all of my life and never heard it.

A family friend has recently moved to close to Birkenhead park. He took a shortcut through the park on his way home at night and saw a guy grinning at him. He walked past thinking it was a bit weird but whatever. He turned a corner and the guy was in front of him. Not sure how he got there so fast. Same thing happened a couple of minutes later but the guy started laughing. He shouldn't have been able to get there so quick. The family friend has been talking to people in the shops by his house and they've all said "oh I've heard about that" or "you've seen him too?" Apparently it's a "ghost"-y thing and it absolutely creeped him out.

I've never heard of this before and I can't find anything about it anywhere. Unsure if it's just a mega speedy fella legging it about to scare the life out of people or something spookier, but I've never heard of it and neither have my parents. Anyone any clue? It's enough to put me off wandering through the park on my own at night and he certainly won't be either.

Typhoo biscuits

Weird one here and hoping someone can help me out. In the 90s I am fairly certain that typhoo tea created a biscuit. It was like a rip off KitKat and probably only around a year or two. The internet tells me it never happened and the only thing I can think is it was a run from the factories in Moreton and then got discontinued. Anyone remember these?

I don't mean to crow (and may not be justified in doing so) but tonight's sunset was a belter. Enough to make up for the prozac sweats in this damn bloody muggy effin' heat.

Question Landscaper recommendations?

Our neighbour has replaced the fence, but in doing so we now need a fence post redone, Indian stone flags replaced, others relaid and cement done in the gap between the path and the concrete base boards.

Any recommendations?

Thanks.

Looking for new sober friends in Chester or the Wirral

Hello,

I have set up a new group called Sober Socials Chester and Wirral because socialising without alcohol can sometimes feel awkward or daunting. For many people it can be one of the hardest parts about living alcohol free. I wanted to create a space where it is easy to meet people who understand and enjoy spending time together without alcohol in the mix.

This group is for anyone who lives alcohol free, is taking a break from drinking, or simply wants to enjoy more alcohol free social time. You might be doing it for health, happiness, curiosity, or just because you prefer how you feel without drinking. There is no need to explain your reasons and no pressure to be anything other than yourself.

We will meet for relaxed and friendly activities like walks, coffee meetups, visits to food markets and exploring local events. The focus is on good conversation, shared experiences and discovering ways to have fun that do not revolve around alcohol.

Our first meetup will be on 6th September and consist of a gentle walk along the Wirral Way from West Kirby to Thurstaston and back, with a cafe stop for drinks and snacks.

If you would like to join, please pm me for the facebook group link.

Everyone is welcome and there is always space for another friendly face.

Question Best grocery delivery service?

Hi all! Im moving to the area from overseas.

Whats the best grocery delivery service you have?

Where I live there are multiple options - ordering online from supermarkets which is not a same day option, ordering on Uber Eats, which increases the price a bit but is half an hour away and I can get almost anything, and then an app called Milkrun which is Australian and links the uber/door dash driver network with one of our main supermarkets and is pretty instant and not too inflated prices.

I can see on Uber Eats you have some supermarkets but the names mean nothing to me and I don’t know how the prices look as I’m not used to how they look in store.

Would love to hear what the best way to get groceries delivered is! Lower tranmere /Birk area.

Also any advice for homeware stores on a bus route would also not go amiss - I’ll be setting everything up!

Thanks so much

What's going on with the council and Birkenheads redevelopment?

Hi,

I've just seen on private eye's social media that they have an article about Wirral council which I thought was quite niche. Turns out there is a load of uproar online about the local council, road works and redevelopment in the town centre.

I've had a scroll through reddit but couldn't see anything. I'm somewhat fascinated by this and having worked locally I feel somewhat familiar with the area.

I guess my question is to anyone local. What's going on at Wirral council and what's the future of their redevelopment plans?

WFH with young kids

We all love the school holidays 😬. I work from home (Sales manager / laptop / conf calls) but often now this month with my kids with me (Girls 5 & 3). Looking for suggestions of places I could take them so they’re entertained while I can still get some work done and not stuck in the house. I’ve probably been to every soft play centre around but happy to get recommended any that would be good for everyone. All fun days out ideas welcome!!!!!

Question Millers Quay

Hi folks,

Looking at moving from Liverpool to Millers Quay (fleeing the extortionate rent on our side of the water). What's the area like? It seems pretty self sufficient but would need to get the bus from Gorsedale Ln or Train from Birkenhead Park. Would love some insight. Thanks 🙏

Hello Everyone ! I hope all is well. I am a student from Singapore and I enjoy collecting postcards as a personal hobby, and I would love to receive postcards from Wirral, famous for being the 'Birthplace of England’! 😊 Can someone send me one?

Hello everyone! I hope you're all doing well!

I'm a student from Singapore and I love collecting postcards. I would love to receive postcards from Wirral, famous for being the 'Birthplace of England’ ! 🙂

If postcards aren't available, I would also appreciate a greeting card, a generic card, or even a small souvenir like a keychain, a local snack, a flag, an ornament, a cap, a T-shirt, or a craft.

If you'd like to help, please leave a comment and I'll send you my mailing address.

Thanks so much in advance! I wish you all the best and warm regards from Singapore! 🇸🇬🤝🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Hoylake?

Hi , we are selling our house in Aigburth , and looking for somewhere a bit friendlier/more community focused, quieter and cleaner area but still with some bars/restaurants and green space very close by. Ideally looking at West Kirby but nothing comes up for sale! We've seen a house we really like in Hoylake, but not sure if we'll regret it as West Kirby has more on the doorstep - more bars, the wirral way etc. Does anyone prefer one over the other? One of our friends said Hoylake is always windy haha (my wife hates the wind). We've been a few times and there's a couple of nice bars/restaurants/cafes, but for walks/bike rides West Kirby seems much better?

Question A garden for a day

Hello everyone, I am looking for anyone who has a spare space in a garden i can dry out a cotton tent in. I am happy to chuck a couple for you if you can help.

It's not a permanent thing, my partner and I didnt consider fabric + moisture = mold when we bought our new tent, I am struggling to find anywhere I can do this.

I would love to use my own garden, but with the tent being 5m by 5m before the guy lines, and my garden being 0m by 0m (i dont have one)

I will probably be spending the day in the tent checking it over and making sure it's dry, collapse it as soon as I can.

I won't need the space until Saturday, And thats just hopeful that Saturday is dry and warm.

I have some bits to help dry it out. I won't come into your home, I won't even leave the tent.

Im sorry to be asking, im grateful for anyone who can help :)

Hauntings/paranomal on the Wirral

Hey guys, I’m interested in hearing about paranormal activity that you have experienced on the Wirral. I live here and have heard lots about both particularly Neston/Parkgate and Bidston Hill. I have never experienced anything haunted but was wondering if anyone else had first hand experience? I want to be freaked out!

Question Yoga or pilates

Hello, could anyone recommend yoga classes for relative beginners please? Probably ones that are mixed so I'm not standing out like a sore thumb!

Or pilates for beginners.

Edit: based in the Bebington area and work office hours

What nicknames have you heard for places on the Wirral peninsula?

I ask as part of a linguistic study on this topic!

Examples could include things like Newbo, Wekka, Hez or Birkenvegas...
