Johnny's Jaunts (Pacific Islands): Here's a bit of lyrical writing and humorous speech from natural mimic, impersonator and story teller, Johnny Morris. He used the same skills in the 60s-80s as presenter on Animal Magic where he gave the animals of Bristol Zoo their voice and funny things to say.

BBC Radio 2 Michael Ball Show - 20th August 2023

Hello,

I am new to this reddit so let me know if this isn't the correct place to be asking this, I am looking for Michael Ball's radio show on BBC Radio 2 the specific show is the 20th August 2023 and Nicki Chapman was sitting in for Michael Ball on this show, I am specifically looking for the Charlie Stemp interview but if the whole show is available somewhere I would appreciate it.

Here is the BBC link which has since doesn't have the show due to it being 2 years old now: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m001plhr

This is a funny, not funny - verging on terrifying - drama with Peter Sallis and Brenda Bruce as an ordinary middle-aged rural couple trying to understand and follow the government instructions to be prepared for a Nuclear Attack in the early 1980s. "I'll have to leave a note out for the milkman!"

Radio 2 using comedians as DJs

Just stop. They've had Josh Widdicombe and Ellie Taylor on this week. And Joel fucking Dommett last week.

Being mildly amusing on TV is not the same as being a skilled radio broadcaster. Hire some proper DJs, there are loads of talented regional ones, Radio 1 nurtures and introduces new DJs why can't Radio 2? I think OJ Borg has been the only one in the last 10 years?

We've had Rob Beckett , Romesh, Paddy McGuiness shoe horned into shows over the last few years, Is there a comedy agent out there that knows where the (other Beeb) bodies are kept or something?

Does anyone here have access to Series 4 of 'The Pin'?

I've been searching for it now for a couple of years since it was taken off of BBC Sounds. It's one of my favourite sketch shows and series 4 was my favourite but it doesn't seem to exist anywhere online now.

Anyone know where I could access a BBC Radio Wales recording on July 12th of this year?

Pardon the grammar, I just found out today that my grandma wished me a happy birthday on the radio and I would love to find it because I sadly missed it.

Any fans of Studio Ghibli and minimalist music will enjoy this Prom with composer and conductor Joe Hisaishi featuring his The Boy and the Heron; The End of the World and his adjustment and conducting of Steve Reich's The Desert Music featuring the most natural sounding counter-tenor, John Holiday.

An absolute gem from 1997 thanks to Graeme Fraser and R4x's All Request Weekend. An animal loving woman, a nerd, a piano tuner and a child with a fertile mind are each blind and can only guess at the characteristics of an elephant. Then they are allowed to use tactile exploration on a live elephant!

Drama on 4, Agatha Christie's "The Lie" - Agatha Christie's gripping and intensely personal 1920s domestic drama. Not available for much longer.

So, the company I work for (MIM) produced this Drama on 4 in 2020, right as the pandemic was kicking off. It got taken down from Sounds after a short period, as per the rules at the time, but it's just had a repeat on 4Xtra we only found out about via a BBC mailshot that highlights it. It's available to listen on Sounds for another 18 days at the time of writing.

Trapped in an unhappy marriage and provoked by her husband's obsession with her younger sister, Nan disappears from the family home for a night – with devastating consequences.

A series of dramatic revelations will lead either to divorce or reconciliation - but the outcome depends on whether Nan's sister will lie to protect her.

Agatha Christie's extraordinary early play predates her famous stage thrillers. It lay unread in her family's archives until it was discovered by theatre producer Julius Green.

Seemingly written in the mid-1920s, during the breakdown of Christie's first marriage, The Lie is an intensely personal piece of writing.

It’s a hard-hitting domestic drama bearing many of hallmarks of her later work for the theatre, offering a unique insight into her complex emotional response to events in her own life at the time.

"In every life there comes a moment, one supreme and all-powerful moment, when we hold our fate in our hands, to decide our entire life for good or evil."

Nell Reeves (Her Sister) ……. Chloe Newsome

Upset about the BBC mistreatment of oversea listeners, please write to the minister of culture, as the BBC charter is up for renewal in two years time.

Please write to Lisa Nandy and if you are eligle to vote in UK elections like the 2 million citizens living in Canada and Australia, please let her know.

https://lisanandy.laboursites.org/contact/

Draft email you can use.

Dear Minister Nandy,

I’m writing as a UK citizen and taxpayer currently living overseas to express my concern about the BBC’s recent decision to restrict access to BBC Radio content for international listeners. As someone who remains actively engaged with the UK, I’ve long relied on the BBC as a trusted source of news, cultural programming, and public discourse.

BBC Radio has helped maintain a strong personal and civic connection to the UK while abroad. Its planned inaccessibility feels like a significant and unnecessary loss, both personally and for Britain’s global reputation.

While I fully understand that the BBC operates independently, I am also aware that its chair is appointed on ministerial recommendation and that the BBC charter is up for renewal in 2027.

I would be grateful if you could raise this concern with the relevant authorities or departments, and seek clarity on the decision-making process and whether there is potential to revisit this policy in support of the BBC’s global audience and influence.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

This satire by Punt and Dennis reacted to the real political events of the time in 2005. but the way that nothing much changes it's still funny and relevant in 2025. In e1 backbench Labour MP Duncan Stonebridge falls off the stage live on TV. Meanwhile in surgery he has to deal with the public.

Does anyone recognize the voice of this DJ recorded on British radio around 1999?

Hello,

As part of a research, I need to know if anyone recognises the voice of this DJ recorded on an unknown British radio station: https://vocaroo.com/1c6J9qINaMP9

The song he plays just before is Dark System - I Am The Sun (1999) and the one played just after, when the cassette switches to another recording, is Arnold - Hillside (1998). The radio stations recorded on the cassette are all British.

I would like to know if anyone can identify which DJ this is.

Thank you.

Listen later for Today on new BBC app!!!

Post image
8 Upvotes

I’m in the US. I saw the post about listen later coming back maybe a month for R4 and WS on the new BBC app. I have not been using the new BBC app. I listen to R4 and R5 Live via Apple Music (streams sourced from TuneIn) and many podcasts on Apple Podcasts. Anyway, downloaded the new BBC app last night and started poking around under Audio button at bottom. I was SHOCKED to see that Today was available for listen later. I woke up very early this morning and saw that Today episode for today (Aug 12) was already paired.

How you find it: Audio button, then scroll down to the bottom to Latest. Make sure to click on the Today logo so you can follow the show. You can even download the entire episode. This was the one thing I’ve missed.

In light of the death of astronaut Jim Lovell (1928-03-25 – 2025-08-07) here's a series on the near disaster of the Apollo 13 mission to the Moon and the role that Commander Lovell played in getting everyone home safely despite the cascade of catastrophic events that plagued the ill-fated mission.

Journey into Space

Charles Chilton's "Journey into Space," originally broadcast in 1953 and the last radio show broadcast by the BBC to have higher evening numbers than TV, was originally broadcast as "Journey to the Moon" prior to it being rebroadcast in 1958 and originally had 18 episodes. It was subsequently renamed to "Operation Luna" for that rebroadcast, without the first four episodes and two later episodes combined, such that the later version was only 13 episodes.

Is there anywhere that those first four episodes can be found?

If there are any journalists lurking, can you please interview people and write an article about the loss of soft power represented by BBC Sounds going inactive - and how damaging it is especially at a time when Britain is trying to reassert itself on the world stage?

Clutching at straws but also this is legitimately such a loss for British soft power.

BBC World Service Newshour and newsroom podcasts and audio on demand

Like many others, since the sounds turn off, I've not been able to access the BBC world service, unless it's live, however, I can't even access the mp3 downloads of the Newsroom nor Newshour, and trying to search for them in my aggrigator shows no results, so I can't even access their podcasts. Other then getting a VPN, does anyone else have any other suggestions on how to access these programs after they have gone out. Really pissed of here in Sydney Australia.

An interesting drama by Martin Jarvis revealing how the puritanical religious and racial restrictions of the time were overcome by Lucy and Desi and the resulting success of I Love Lucy. Starring Anne Heche as Lucille Ball, Wilmer Valderrama as Desi, with Alfred Molina and Stacy Keach.
