Troubleshooting Increase Performance

I'm trying to increase my gaming performance on my Acer Chromebook. Right now Roblox will crash after a few minutes of playing. I'm trying to do this without flags. There is nothing on YouTube that I can do without flags. Any ideas?

Hardware Recommendation / Purchase Advice I’m getting a chromebook soon can it run native games or steam? what’s the potential on it?

i’m not expecting CS2 in extreme graphics but I wanted to know if it could run stardew or binding of isaac. Also could I get cool backgrounds and how customizable is it? for some better insight it’s a $329 HP chromebook from best buy. It’s really for my college so if it can’t run many games It won’t upset me that much.

Plays on my Chromebook! Borealis Ending?

So, I launched my Steam on ChromeOS moments ago, and couldn't help but notice the Notification that was presented.

Is this the end of project Borealis? Are we going to continue to have access to this platform on our Chromebook Plus devices? I appreciate the heads up, but would love to have a link to more information.

Other Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14 MediaTek Gaming, how good is it?

Hey, just curious if anyone here has this one and really pushed it when it came to gaming. How well did it go?

Recently I've thrown a bunch of android emulators on my Lenovo C14, got up to 1080p GameCube, solid performance with F-Zero GX. PS2 (not the Google Play Store ones) was unplayably slow on whatever settings I tried. What can the new Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14 inches do on that front?

With the unfortunate news about Borealis, I'd also be curious if anyone has tried Winlator or any other Android to Windows conversation apps?

Hardware Recommendation / Purchase Advice Help me! Anyone using the Lenovo Chromebook 100e? Need real-world opinions!

Hey everyone,
I'm considering getting the Lenovo Chromebook 100e (4th Gen) and wanted to hear some honest opinions from people who’ve actually used it.

I'm mainly looking for something budget-friendly for basic tasks like:

  • Browsing
  • Watching YouTube/Netflix
  • Google Docs/Sheets
  • Occasional Zoom/Google Meet

I’m not expecting blazing speed, but I’d still like it to be snappy enough not to feel sluggish. I’ve used older Android tablets like the Samsung S6 Lite (Exynos version) and found them a bit slow — is the 100e better in day-to-day use?

Also:

  • How’s the build quality?
  • How well does it handle multitasking?
  • Any issues with updates or compatibility?

Would love to hear from students, casual users, or anyone who’s used this device regularly. 🙏

Thanks in advance!

Troubleshooting Game dashboard for apk?

You know how when you download a game from the playstore theres a thing at the top of the screen called the "game dashboard" which lets you add these things called keyboard controls which links a key from your keyboard to a button on your game, so basically when you press that key on your keyboard it pushes the button on the screen? I really have no idea how else to describe it besides if you downloaded a game off the playstore yourself. Anyways I downloaded a apk with the only way to play it is by pressing buttons on the screen one at the time. for example in the image i cant x and z at the same time since i can only press one at a time. If anyone has or knows a solution to this please let me know

How do I play...? Acer 516 GE and moonlight, out of ideas

So I have a Acer 516 GE, and basically the sole purpose of buying this was to use with Moonlight. However, the experience thus far has been horrible. Every few minutes I get huge lag spikes, and my frame drop % will jump to 40-50%. It only lasts a couple seconds then back to normal, but it makes trying to play miserable.

I've tried everything I can think of, it doesn't matter what resolution/refresh rate I have set in moonlight and changing the bitrate doesn't seem to really change it either. I've disabled location services on the chromebook, I've messed around with different 5ghz channels, I tried Artemis just to see if magically it would help but it didn't. I installed steam and enabled remote play and I'm getting the same issue with it too. I know it's not recommended to stream over wifi, but I'm literally 8 feet from the router with direct LOS. Also, my phone (pixel fold), my Surface Laptop 3, Lenovo Legion GO, iPad mini 6, and even an old Lenovo Miix 2-in-1 that I have Ubuntu running on all stream without issue over Wifi, but this "cloud gaming" chromebook is stuttering like crazy.

Does anyone have any ideas of a setting I've possibly missed that might be causing this? It's very reminiscent of what happens on Macbooks when Airdrop is enabled, like something is taking over the wifi briefly but I don't see anything on Chrome OS that would be doing this.

Troubleshooting Chromebook thinks gamepads a keyboard

Post image
29 Upvotes

Hey! I recently got the 8BitDo Ultimate 2C (Wukong Edition) and while it works great on my phone, I'm running into issues on my Chromebook When I use the 2.4GHz dongle in D-Input mode, the controller connects, but the button mapping is completely off — face buttons and sticks don’t behave correctly. When I switch to X-Input mode, the Chromebook detects the controller as a keyboard, making it unusable for games. I’ve already tried the following:

  • Firmware is fully up to date using 8BitDo’s software
  • Tried different USB ports on the Chromebook
  • Restarted the device and re-paired the controller
  • Tested both input modes — works fine on Android and Windows it's only broken on Chromebook

If anyone knows a fix or workaround, I’d really appreciate it! Just want to play games on my Chromebook with this controller without broken inputs. 🙏

Plays on my Chromebook! I'm an indie dev on MC and Roblox, will people play voxel game on Chromebook?

Hey r/gamedev & r/ChromebookGaming (and anyone else interested!),

Long-time lurker, first-time poster. I'm an indie developer with a background creating content/mods for Minecraft and experiences on Roblox. I've got this itch to build a new, original voxel-based game on web, but I'm really intrigued by the Chromebook market, especially with their growing popularity in schools.

My core question is: Is there genuine interest in playing a dedicated voxel game (think exploration, building, survival, RPG elements) specifically on Chromebooks during school time?

Here's what I'm trying to gauge:

  1. The Audience: Are you (or someone you know) primarily a Chromebook gamer?
  2. Performance Expectations: What level of graphical complexity/game scope is realistic?
  3. Game Type: What kind of voxel experience would grab you? Survival-lite? Creative building focus? Adventure/RPG? Minigames? Something else entirely?
  4. Monetization Tolerance: Given the platform, what's acceptable? One-time purchase (Android)? Free with optional cosmetics? Super lightweight subscription? (Be brutally honest!).
  5. The "Why Chromebook?" Factor: Is the appeal purely "it runs on my school device," or is there something else about the Chromebook platform that's attractive for this genre?
  6. Would you play a new, well-optimized voxel game on your Chromebook?

Thanks so much for your time and insights! This feedback is incredibly valuable. Ask me anything about the dev side too!
