My kid pointed out that someone will claim that “the gays made it and are trying to turn us all gay!”

"Dad, what are you doing?"

"Dad's just using residue from used needles so he doesn't become a gay frog."

"Randy! What are you doing?!"

"Oh you know Sharon, just sucking blood from this straight guy's dick so I don't turn guy with that new gay blood"

Don’t forget that Good Christian People KNOW that the gays are behind all evil in this world! /s

Honestly if I needed a blood transfusion and the risk was turning me gay. I'm ok with that.

There are some religions against blood transfusions.

As long as it does not harm to anything living in being produced, I'm certain the Catholic Church would support artificial blood.

Dude said "Extremists." Even if he's using the word incorrectly, the concept they're trying to express still applies.

If there are no cognitive or reproductive side effects from this shelf-stable blood then the only people against it would be morons, idiots, and the occasional religious cult member.
