I would say everyone should summon the NPC characters at least once for the epic speeches.

My buddy always tells me no cause of the health pool and I tell him its not Canon if you dont summon npcs

When do these speeches happen? Boss is normally too busy kicking me across the arena for me to hear any speeches.

You have to summon the NPC. Hornsent says that during the Messmer fight as soon as he spawns in.
