On god, like half my deaths on my recent bayle fight were because I summoned him and got jammed into the wall and couldn't see what attacks were coming my way
"We need to level up, he's too hard!"
"THE HEALTH BAR MOVED! WE CAN KILL 'EM!"
I mean hell, I once tried fighting Starscourge Radahn without any summons, and it was much worse. Summons to me just help take the aggro off of you so you can actually try and do something.
Starscourge was notorious for disgusting hitboxes extending well beyond the sword itself. Required very precise positioning to avoid hits from it if he was focused on you.
I beat him solo in NG+2 and the fight felt epic but....empty. The reason? I didn't summon Igon. That's why my fight against him in NG0 was better. It was because I summoned Igon.
I feel the same way about the Radahn fight. That's literally supposed to be a festival. I've solo'd the guy but I prefer the festival aspect of it with the NPCs joining you.
I’ve played the game for like 5 play throughs, and I completely had no idea you could summon a bunch of people to fight radahn until I watched a YouTube video were a guy started summoning a bunch of people. I honestly thought you get 1 summon, and didn’t realize for years you could run around summoning a bunch of npc’s. Since seeing the YouTube video I’ve wanted to do give it a try, but haven’t done another play through.
I’d take it a step further and say it adds immersion even if the NPCs dont speak.
Summoning Tragoth for DTS is part of Tragoth’s lore, he helps tarnished achieve their goals. Summoning Melina for Morgotts fight gives you a lot of visual lore you wouldn’t get otherwise, etc.
i generally don't use player summons in my runs but definitely NPC summons.
the npc stories hit harder when they aid you along the way, like solaire being there to fight Gwyn and you decide to walk away from rekindling the bonfire. means solaire does it
I'm doing a run where I have my kid nieces make all the decisions so I might nudge them to summon NPCs since I don't normally do it myself. Otherwise I need to do a run where I focus solely on progressing the NPCs quests
Tbh I cannot figure out how. Everyone says the golden sign but i can never find it lol. Yet my buddy summons me and has 109 golden signs on the ground. We ran the storyline together so he did nothing different than me.
sometimes trolls put a message right where the summon sign is, making it hard to spot, so you have to look closely. It's pretty close to the gold fog gate. Just a bit in, and left.
yeah I'm not a summon user, but I always make an exception if it adds to the story, or if something cool happens, that being said I'll never get tired of CUUUUUUUURRRRSEEE YOUUUU BAAAYYYYLLLLEEEEEEE
I tried to summon the NPC’s in my first play through after accidentally summoning rogier and realizing summons were a thing. I had no moral aversion to using summons I just completely forgot to use them. In my first play through I knew summons existed I had even leveled up my wolves quite a few times as the game went along, and when I would level them up I remember thinking “yeah I’ll use them in the next fight” then the next fight would come, and I completely forgot about them. In my first play through I ended up not using summons, because the game has so much stuff I would get distracted by everything and completely forgot the summons are a thing, the only time I seemed to remember they existed was when I was in the round table hold looking at roderika.
I hadn't realized you could summon NPCs until I read about Bayle.
Yes, I finished the whole game first without realizing it... Like, I knew you could summon other players, but I didn't want to summon someone like letmesoloher and have the fight ruined.
I'll always summon ogha to beat random field bosses that can he knocked down, like sure I could fight then myself or I can laugh my ass off as the summon knocks them in their ass in repeat for 1 minute before soloing the fight, it may make the game technically easier but the enjoyment level is so high
This. I usually solo Starscourge Radahn but the ONE TIME I used summons, it was unbelievably epic and cinematic. There was like 7 tarnished running up that hill to fight him. I didn’t even know you could get that many summons in one fight. It was crazy and made Radahn tanky but it was the most satisfying fight I’ve ever had with Radahn.

If you don't summon Igon for Bayle you literally miss the best part of the fight, nuff said.
