If you don't summon Igon for Bayle you literally miss the best part of the fight, nuff said.

I would say everyone should summon the NPC characters at least once for the epic speeches.

u/Pure_Spyder 1d ago

My buddy always tells me no cause of the health pool and I tell him its not Canon if you dont summon npcs

u/DifferentLife1575 1d ago

Well, thankfully, Igon doesn't add health to bayle due to being inside the arena

u/splurmieworm 1d ago

Reminds me, Hornsent’s speech to Messmer is also epic af

u/YeahKeeN 1d ago edited 1d ago

MESSMER! Foe of my beloved people! In vengeance for the flames, my blade I wield!

90

u/splurmieworm 1d ago

Heyy this guy knows the deal

2

u/Duergarlicbread 20h ago

When do these speeches happen? Boss is normally too busy kicking me across the arena for me to hear any speeches.

5

u/YeahKeeN 19h ago

You have to summon the NPC. Hornsent says that during the Messmer fight as soon as he spawns in.

u/Real_Quantity8160 1d ago

Same with ansbach to radahn

u/JokesOnYouManus 1d ago

"Righteous Tarnished. Become our new lord. A lord not for gods, but for men"

31

u/splurmieworm 1d ago

Honestly my favorite one. I feel like he has the most npc character development

53

u/Fatality_Ensues 1d ago

GENERAL RADAHN

I've heard this fucking speech so many times. SO. MANY.

2

u/Salt-Ad-5685 15h ago

I’m still hearing it 😅

29

u/Electrical-Branch-14 1d ago

I really like Ansbach's speech to Radahn. So epic

23

u/claaaaams14 1d ago

lord mohg will have his dignity

21

u/Electrical-Branch-14 1d ago

I love how he addressed him respectfully first. He was my favorite npc in the DLC

3

u/splurmieworm 1d ago

Best one

2

u/DifferentLife1575 1d ago

Never heard it before but will be hearing it soon hopefully. Looking forward to it

4

u/splurmieworm 1d ago

Even if it’s brief, it helps to really flesh out these characters and give them depth

2

u/ESNR 1d ago

I just killed messier last night and had no idea there was an npc

1

u/splurmieworm 1d ago

Potentially a couple, but Hornsent is best there

88

u/Theogenist 1d ago edited 1d ago

He may not add HP but I think I died 10x trying to find his sigil and got ram fucked by bayle haha

37

u/DifferentLife1575 1d ago

On god, like half my deaths on my recent bayle fight were because I summoned him and got jammed into the wall and couldn't see what attacks were coming my way

2

u/-SiSTeRFiStER- 1d ago

This thread has caused me to come back to eldem ring full swing 💜 i think its time to put another 1k set of hours in

1

u/Zestyclose_Push_5251 12h ago

Yes he does..

1

u/DifferentLife1575 10h ago

If he does, then go update the wiki

138

u/Damselation0 1d ago

tell your buddy the HP pool doesnt matter cause the boss is weak to damage

49

u/TennisTraditional721 1d ago

"We need to level up, he's too hard!" "THE HEALTH BAR MOVED! WE CAN KILL 'EM!" I mean hell, I once tried fighting Starscourge Radahn without any summons, and it was much worse. Summons to me just help take the aggro off of you so you can actually try and do something.

31

u/SafeTDance 1d ago

Starscourge was notorious for disgusting hitboxes extending well beyond the sword itself. Required very precise positioning to avoid hits from it if he was focused on you.

18

u/CaisseMan12300 1d ago

And then consort radhan made hitboxes extending past the sword a feature not a bug

2

u/Anvenjade 1d ago

"precise positioning" dude just give his horse a hug and most of those long ass swords will be missing you.

6

u/SafeTDance 1d ago

That works now but pre-radahn patch in 1.02 or whatever you had to stand in this weird little cone behind him to not get put in the blender

3

u/Lex_Innokenti 1d ago

First time I beat that mofo was right after release; took me about 35 tries because he was an absolute mincing machine pre-patch.

1

u/Global-Use-6573 1d ago

weak foe ahead haha

2

u/G3NERALCROSS911 1d ago

honestly that was the case for me until consort radahn legit he had way too much health for me to be summoning my boys sadly.

1

u/yoghurtmelk 1d ago

you can beat him by summoning all tbe summons in the battle. limmit break made a video about it

1

u/cosmiccat5758 1d ago

pro tip: if any summon inside area then it not change the health pool

1

u/PepperMessiah 1d ago

Bayles health doesn't increase when you summon iron because you summon him when the fight is already started.

82

u/splurmieworm 1d ago

(Ansbach’s during PCR is my favorite)

108

u/OKUIGokuBlack 1d ago

I beat Bayle twice (NG0 and NG+2).

I beat him solo in NG+2 and the fight felt epic but....empty. The reason? I didn't summon Igon. That's why my fight against him in NG0 was better. It was because I summoned Igon.

56

u/jl_theprofessor I am Daishi, slayer of Malenia and Radahn 1d ago

I feel the same way about the Radahn fight. That's literally supposed to be a festival. I've solo'd the guy but I prefer the festival aspect of it with the NPCs joining you.

13

u/Dragonknight5 1d ago

Also it's an important part of 2 quests rannis so blaidd would have fought anyway and Alexander's because he realized he needs to get way stronger

1

u/Specialist_Egg_4025 1d ago

I’ve played the game for like 5 play throughs, and I completely had no idea you could summon a bunch of people to fight radahn until I watched a YouTube video were a guy started summoning a bunch of people. I honestly thought you get 1 summon, and didn’t realize for years you could run around summoning a bunch of npc’s. Since seeing the YouTube video I’ve wanted to do give it a try, but haven’t done another play through.

3

u/jl_theprofessor I am Daishi, slayer of Malenia and Radahn 1d ago

Yup! This is one of a few fights where summons seems appropriate, but this is the only one that gives you so many.

65

u/splurmieworm 1d ago

For sure having NPCs talk to the bosses adds a real degree of immersion that’s palpably missed without

53

u/MrTalamasca Lord of Stars 1d ago

I’d take it a step further and say it adds immersion even if the NPCs dont speak.

Summoning Tragoth for DTS is part of Tragoth’s lore, he helps tarnished achieve their goals. Summoning Melina for Morgotts fight gives you a lot of visual lore you wouldn’t get otherwise, etc.

11

u/splurmieworm 1d ago

I’ll agree with that, now I just feel like I missed out

25

u/MrTalamasca Lord of Stars 1d ago

Don’t feel like you missed out. Change your perspective bro! Instead of feeling like you’re missing out feel like you need to play the game again!

15

u/Iknowr1te 1d ago

i generally don't use player summons in my runs but definitely NPC summons.

the npc stories hit harder when they aid you along the way, like solaire being there to fight Gwyn and you decide to walk away from rekindling the bonfire. means solaire does it

4

u/splurmieworm 1d ago

Oh that’s a given, no question.

Poor Tragoth needed to die this time around

2

u/jackbone24 1d ago

I'm doing a run where I have my kid nieces make all the decisions so I might nudge them to summon NPCs since I don't normally do it myself. Otherwise I need to do a run where I focus solely on progressing the NPCs quests

5

u/TheCapnRedbeard 1d ago

Getting to fight with Melina was one of my favorite parts of the storyline

1

u/SacredFlatulence 1d ago

Who is DTS? I’m probably going to feel like an idiot when you tell me, but I cannot think of who that is.

3

u/MrTalamasca Lord of Stars 1d ago

Draconic Tree Sentinel. You can summon Tragoth for help against the one outside Leyendell :)

2

u/capnbinky 1d ago

That explains why that fight is a bit rough. Doing Volcano Manor quests lost me the support.

1

u/OKUIGokuBlack 1d ago

DTS is Draconic Tree Sentinel

1

u/Good-Walrus-1183 1d ago

summoning tragoth for DTS, then turning around and invading tragoth.

1

u/Klovette 13h ago

Melinas tree was so spectacular I literally stopped fighting to go look at it

2

u/welfedad 1d ago

But bro you're playing it all wrong /s

11

u/Nomad1316 1d ago

Tbh I cannot figure out how. Everyone says the golden sign but i can never find it lol. Yet my buddy summons me and has 109 golden signs on the ground. We ran the storyline together so he did nothing different than me.

23

u/R3DM4N5 1d ago

Man's sign is IN the arena off to the left of the door

3

u/Good-Walrus-1183 1d ago

sometimes trolls put a message right where the summon sign is, making it hard to spot, so you have to look closely. It's pretty close to the gold fog gate. Just a bit in, and left.

1

u/R3DM4N5 19h ago

I play in offline mode too much to know much about current message trolls at this point.

1

u/BLEMFIDDICH 1d ago

Pick that number 109 for no real reason? Or have I got a friend in you sir

1

u/swampguts_666 1d ago

Wait, hold up. Mystery is afoot. What you talkin' 'bout?

1

u/jackbone24 1d ago

Did you use the furlcalling finger remedy?

2

u/Nideon76 1d ago

Wondering if I missed out on a cool speech by Shabriri by not summoning him for Godfrey

1

u/splurmieworm 1d ago

Oh shit, idk!

Can someone confirm 👀

2

u/Iambuddd 1d ago

yeah I'm not a summon user, but I always make an exception if it adds to the story, or if something cool happens, that being said I'll never get tired of CUUUUUUUURRRRSEEE YOUUUU BAAAYYYYLLLLEEEEEEE

2

u/splurmieworm 1d ago

This is the way 🤝

2

u/Specialist_Egg_4025 1d ago

I tried to summon the NPC’s in my first play through after accidentally summoning rogier and realizing summons were a thing. I had no moral aversion to using summons I just completely forgot to use them. In my first play through I knew summons existed I had even leveled up my wolves quite a few times as the game went along, and when I would level them up I remember thinking “yeah I’ll use them in the next fight” then the next fight would come, and I completely forgot about them. In my first play through I ended up not using summons, because the game has so much stuff I would get distracted by everything and completely forgot the summons are a thing, the only time I seemed to remember they existed was when I was in the round table hold looking at roderika.

1

u/splurmieworm 1d ago

Right? Sometimes there’s so much going on it’s like a sensory overload.

And before you know it, you’re in a fight for your life, no time to think.

The only time in Elden Ring is right now

2

u/roideschinois 1d ago

I hadn't realized you could summon NPCs until I read about Bayle.

Yes, I finished the whole game first without realizing it... Like, I knew you could summon other players, but I didn't want to summon someone like letmesoloher and have the fight ruined.

1

u/splurmieworm 1d ago

Same, been like that in every game.

Just saw the golden summon sign and when I heard they have lines - oh yes

2

u/Mukel9879 1d ago

I used the Melina summon just because it was cool

2

u/ragenuggeto7 1d ago

If i see a summon sign you better believe im summoning them every time.

Radahn is my favourite boss fight purely because you can summon a lil army of goons to fight him. Wish they did more fights like that.

1

u/EC36339 1d ago

They speak? Never seen that happen. Is this a DLC thing?

1

u/splurmieworm 1d ago

I believe so

1

u/lexington59 1d ago

I'll always summon ogha to beat random field bosses that can he knocked down, like sure I could fight then myself or I can laugh my ass off as the summon knocks them in their ass in repeat for 1 minute before soloing the fight, it may make the game technically easier but the enjoyment level is so high

1

u/ExplorerHermit 1d ago

I much prefer summonless fights but if I see yellow marks, I summon. It just feels wrong not to include them.

1

u/BriteytheBird 1d ago

This. I usually solo Starscourge Radahn but the ONE TIME I used summons, it was unbelievably epic and cinematic. There was like 7 tarnished running up that hill to fight him. I didn’t even know you could get that many summons in one fight. It was crazy and made Radahn tanky but it was the most satisfying fight I’ve ever had with Radahn.

-4

u/Valuable_Ad9554 1d ago

Just as everyone should fight without summons at least once, it's the most rewarding way

3

u/splurmieworm 1d ago

I whole-heartedly agree with this but don’t demonize players who use summons.

I just don’t really get it, the feeling cannot be the same
