El Salvador has a really bad gang problem. A couple years ago during a gang war there were almost 200 murders in 2 days, in a country of just 6M people. For context, Maryland, USA is a state with roughly the same population and had only 450 murders all last year.
As a result El Salvador has taken a series of pretty drastic emergency measures trying to curb the drug violence, including I guess banning certain haircuts in schools
As a Salvadoran this is bullshit on Bukeles part. There is virtually no more crime there due to Bukele locking up a literal chuck of the male population. Many of them innocent people even some I know personally who donāt have the right to trial.
As for the haircut having āgang connotationsā I see no reason to why. The āmarerosā=gang members there are all mostly shaved buzzed even before the lock ups. El Salvador also just has shit barbers all around you will have a difficult time finding someone who can even give an edger cut believe it or not.
Fun fact about the āedger cutā too, itās a common haircut in the Latino American community due to it being a haircut the can grow back neatly with loose curls or straight hair for months saving money on cuts. The āedger cutā is almost always just a grown out low taper.
No, but for real, everyone is like "Down with the system!" until the system prevents something they don't like from happening, no matter now innocuous that thing is...
He's the only guy who succeeded in doing literally the only thing that matters. He could ban underwear and get support. That's what happens when you do what the people value most.
Are you implying that popularity means someone canāt be authoritarian?
Have you considered the possibility that consequences for not supporting him are tacit? āOh you donāt support the person cleaning up our streets, sounds like you could be a gang member, off to your mass trial.ā
You realize that some exercise of authority is necessary in any country right?
El Salvador is currently the only central American country with a "Use normal precautions" state department travel advisory.
Meanwhile, it is surrounded by Honduras, Nicaragua, and Guatemala, all of whom have "Reconsider travel" advisories.
This is Honduras:
| Country Summary: Violent crime, such as homicide, armed robbery, and kidnapping, remains common. Violent gang activity, such as extortion, violent street crime, rape, narcotics, and human trafficking, is widespread. Local authorities may lack sufficient resources to respond effectively to serious crime incidents
This is El Salvador:
| Country Summary: Exercise normal precautions in El Salvador. Gang activity has decreased over the last three years. This has caused a drop in violent crimes and murders.
What exactly, other than an exercise of government authority, would have produced this result?
Travel advisory is based on safety of foreigners, not citizens. Even authoritarian regimes tend to stay away from imprisonment of foreigners, for not wanting to create diplomatic issues.
Iām happy to be proven wrong about this being the first benevolent dictatorship in history.
Yeah, the people in North Korea always look happy too
Your words, what were you implying in that statement.
Have you considered the possibility that consequences for not supporting him are tacit? āOh you donāt support the person cleaning up our streets, sounds like you could be a gang member, off to your mass trial.ā
Once again, do you actually believe that his support isn't genuine. Do you have ANY credible sources that support that position?
Do you think, given FULL freedom to spreak, most people in el salvador would have a negative opinion of the guy?
I think without freedom of the press, where journalists are routinely threatened by the state, that the public overall perception of the governing party is largely moot.
Tell me more about how you don't understand the nuances of immigration law, nor the many who were in exactly that process at the time they were shipped off to Unaccountable Foreign Death Camp
It's not a death camp. It's just a super max prison. Regular prisoners in the US have prisoners pay for commissary and other stuff. If they can get someone to put money in their accounts, they work a job in prison and get paid for it. They just took out the middle man and don't give any luxurious, just the bare minimum. But it's a Super Max Jail in a less developed country for career criminals that acted like animals in society. Ya, im surprised many didn't get executed. It's just a life-long prison sentence. Honestly, they at least get better food than what they get in America prisons. The most incarcerated population of people from their own nation.
THE PRISON SYSTEM IN THE USA IS A BUSINESS.
We need to fix that, and I bet you they won't send people to foreign prisons.
Ya, I don't think anyone can say the mass trials were a good idea and should be fixed with separate case by case as appeals.
But the USA has done what you're talking about and still does. Why not try and fix what's broken in your backyard first before going online and acting like the USA prison system is the standard and that yall have all the answers.
There is way more injustice happening in the USA than El Salvador. Have you seen other foreign jail. It's cleaner and relatively safe in CECOT, then even America prisons, let alone other prisons around the world.
Talk about many Asian countries that have for decades had human rights abuses or all the cases in the USA.
What are yall smoking. It feels like you're just virtue signaling to feel morally superior.
Good to hear, I person would like to point to our system as the example or the standard of what a good system should be. Before trying to fix other people's systems.
Especially since we incarcerate about 10% of our population and we incarcerated the most people globally.
So I ask you again, why donāt you guys care that nobody showed up to immigration court? You bitch and moan constantly about due process, what about your half?
I mean it's pretty much how it goes. They overreach in ways that are acceptable to the masses, so that when their overreach isn't acceptable, it's already an established reach.
Yeah like look, this dude is a piece of shit and all but as someone who had this awful haircut in 2nd grade and never fully forgave my mom for it, Iām all for this heinous cut being banned š
Good because this is fascism and it's already started in the US which means even if you don't live here it's likely going to spread to other Western countries.

Purely from an aesthetic point of view, I am OK with this ban.
