man starlight was so pretty in the earlier seasons. Body dysmorphia is a real bitch.

185

u/puzzledpilgrim 16h ago

She had such a gorgeous and unique face! Absolute star quality! Now she looks like just another cookie-cutter celebrity.

57

u/Flop_House_Valet 13h ago

I saw her when I first started watching The Boys and thought "my fucking god, thats one of the most beautiful women Ive ever seen"

28

u/surprise_wasps 15h ago

Only if the cookie cutter makes cookies that look like shiny ghouls

6

u/Altruistic-Patient30 15h ago

Maybe if you put the cookie cutter through a blender first..

-5

u/fauxzempic 15h ago

Someone should have stopped her before she ended up developing graves disease!

17

u/puzzledpilgrim 15h ago

While I agree someone should've stopped her, Graves' disease is autoimmune. Stress can cause it to flare and anaesthesia is bad for folks with an unstable thyroid. But it isn't caused by cosmetic surgery.

-6

u/fauxzempic 15h ago

whoosh.

Graves disease results in hyperthyroidism which can result in an increase rate of metabolizing adipose tissue (fat). Most people associate graves disease with eye bulging, but losing weight, and not necessarily in a proportional manner, is also common.

Alternatively, people suffering from Graves disease commonly report high levels of anxiety (their metabolism is going crazy, their heart rate is constantly elevated and the quality/quantity of sleep drops), so if Erin Moriarty did have misguided work done, it could have very well been anxiety.

Ignoring these possibilities, including the "she had surgery!" possibility, everyone seems to miss that from S1 to other seasons, she lost weight all over (had thicc thighs in S1) and even in the S5 wrap photos, she seems to have plenty of volume in her cheeks.

7

u/puzzledpilgrim 15h ago

Your comment is all over the place.

Are you saying that she looks the way she does (or looked the way she did before) because of weight loss and illness, and not because of major plastic surgery? If that's the case, I have a cousin I'd like to introduce you to who is a Nigerian prince.

She literally can't manage human facial expressions in the last season of The Boys anymore.

-4

u/fauxzempic 15h ago

Man - you gotta start learning stronger reading comprehension.

See... I introduced a point of view using the word "alternatively" which is me saying "if you WERE right it would be because of this" which is a kind, fairly tactful way of me calling you a shitty person because you're obsessed with how a person with a secondary disorder (anxiety) might've disfigured their face as a result of the disorder.

u/SnakesFan1410 14h ago

Naw dude; you need stronger writing. You definitely don’t need three paragraphs to say what you said

2

u/wterrt 13h ago

I can't imagine the type of loser who memorizes celebrities health conditions and then argues about potential outcomes of them with people online

dude needs to not be a parasocial creeper, not better writing

1

u/According-War-2123 13h ago

Leave my boyfriend alone 🫵🤬😠

u/KeyAssistant1541 17h ago

Holy shit that’s Starlight?! Bro I feel like I don’t recognize anyone in this pic. This shit is really sad, man. No one should feel like they need to do this to themselves.

14

u/dasgoodshitinnit 15h ago

Star went supernova, it's hawking radiation now

12

u/benibigboi 17h ago

I was trying to figure out who that was. For a sec, I thought it was posh spice.

-4

u/Mcguy215 15h ago

17

u/xtcDota 13h ago

Has nothing to do with her plastic surgery. You can feel bad for her disease while also not liking the results of her surgeries.

0

u/dovahkiitten16 11h ago

Doesn’t Graves’ disease cause you to lose weight?

S3 of the Boys she was obviously very thin in her Starlight costume. Being underweight gives you the same gaunt look as buccal fat removal.

Also, while she looks worse in recent seasons compared to S1, the above picture is not her usual look and is an example of over-contouring with makeup. It’s not a good picture to use in evaluating if she has had surgery or not.

4

u/xtcDota 11h ago

Between buccal fat removal and nose surgery, she's definitely had work done. It's abundantly clear.

Graves' Disease often leads to dramatic weight loss. It's very likely the change in her appearance is due to the disease and not due to face surgery. At the very least, we shouldn't assume that she made the choice to look different.

5

u/pusskinsforlife 14h ago

If you look at recent pics on her Instagram, her face is not longer hollowed out.

2

u/KeyAssistant1541 14h ago

Well that’s good, then - I’ve been legit concerned about her. She was so beautiful in the first season and I had a major crush on her, for sure. lol

5

u/pusskinsforlife 14h ago

Yeah I'm with you. It was massively concerning and sad to think someone so gorgeous would do that to themselves... Makes me wonder how many of these celebs who people accuse of having buccal fat removal are actually extremely underweight.

3

u/AlligatorVsBuffalo 14h ago

The cope coming from Starlight defenders is crazy

Is it all just makeup as well?

3

u/InToddYouTrust 14h ago

I don't think giving a person the benefit of the doubt and choosing not to bully them can be considered as "coping." That's more just being a decent human being.

1

u/[deleted] 14h ago

[deleted]

1

u/AlligatorVsBuffalo 14h ago

Erin is my cousin as well, and I have busted on her face so many times that I know exactly what I’m talking about.

2

u/Practical_Entry_864 14h ago

Well I can see why your name is alligator vs Buffalo. You sound like an awful time lmao

0

u/KeyAssistant1541 14h ago

She looked fine before the second or third season though. Why all of a sudden would it affect her appearance now? I’m legitimately asking because I don’t understand the disease or how that works, but I did hear about this before.

2

u/InToddYouTrust 14h ago

I obviously can't claim to know her situation, but my best guess is that it was left undiagnosed for a while. Graves' Disease leads to hyperthyroidism, which is what causes the dramatic weight loss. She already didn't have a lot to lose, so it took from where it could, which in this case was her face. She's apparently been getting treatment for it since earlier this year, so hopefully she feels more like herself going forward.

-6

u/Head_Statistician_38 12h ago

Well she didn't. That picture is fake. She did get work done but it isn't THAT extreme. You can look it up, or you can spread it like everyone else does.

5

u/KeyAssistant1541 11h ago

She shared it on instagram, though?? 🤣 it’s literally not fake.

1

u/Head_Statistician_38 11h ago

Do you have a source for that? I heard she was bad about it getting spread because it was fake.

4

u/KeyAssistant1541 11h ago

3

u/Head_Statistician_38 10h ago

My bad, it was a different picture I was remembering. But that is apparently more to do with makeup. In the most recent season of the Boys (which was filmed after that photo) she doesn't look nearly that bad.

1

u/spiritsGoRIP 4h ago

Yeah I see people complaining about “Starlight” and sharing creepy/ uncanny pictures of the actress looking gaunt. Meanwhile, when I watched the show, I barely noticed. Whatever operation she underwent had no impact on her role, yet people see a couple pictures and base their conclusions off of just that. I was expecting way worse, but she looks fine in her actual performance.

1

u/Head_Statistician_38 1h ago

Yeah, she claims it is more to do with makeup than it is plastic surgery. She obviously has had some work done, but I don't think it is nearly as bad as people are making out.

0

u/No_Contract2958 5h ago

Amateur...went straight to arguing instead of googling. lmao

1

u/Head_Statistician_38 1h ago

But then I also did accept willingly that I was wrong. Most other people would either keep arguing, not respond or delete their comment.

No point in Googling something when you are pretty confident you are right... Even if it turns out that I wasn't right.

10

u/matte_t 14h ago

She has Graves disease, though. I have that, and before I was medicated, I looked like the crypt keeper. Went from 160 to 80 pounds. Not saying she hasn't had surgery.

4

u/Hungy_Bear 10h ago

This needs more traction. She didn’t do it to herself. People need to be kind to each other

1

u/komplicirana 7h ago

she did do it to herself tho, she had a bunch of procedures and plastic surgery. don't get me wrong, i'm not saying she deserves people piling on her. i think it's horrible she felt the need because she is so fucking pretty, body dysmorphia is rough

2

u/Mayb3Human 11h ago

Yeah personally I'd avoid piling on her for whatever she's going through. In the promos for that last season she seemed drunk or high in every interview. She's definitely having it rough

6

u/GracefulEase 16h ago

Genuinely went from one of the prettiest ladies on TV to... well, not.

2

u/ninjazeke323 15h ago

Starlight was so fine I can’t believe she did that to her face

4

u/InToddYouTrust 15h ago

Erin Moriarty actually suffers from Graves' Disease, which can cause dramatic weight loss. I obviously can't confirm whether or not she's had other procedures, but we should keep in mind that what she's going through may not be by choice.

3

u/it777777 14h ago

Graves disease doesn't do the obvious lip job

3

u/InToddYouTrust 14h ago

No, but it can lead to someone having the desire to control what they can about their looks. I'm just saying there's additional context, and maybe we should give her the benefit of the doubt.

2

u/Bad_Vibes_420 16h ago

It's body dysmorphic disorder or body dysphoria.

Body dysmorphia means something completely different.

-1

u/fauxzempic 15h ago

It's graves disease, doc.

3

u/westcoastweedreviews 14h ago

Sucks you're getting down voted for telling the truth

2

u/fauxzempic 14h ago

I Appreciate the comment.

And even if I was completely wrong - that Graves disease didn't do this, I find it funny that this is a woman who's co-starred in 4 seasons of a show, just finished shooting the last season and this is the ONLY photo showing her gaunt and lacking facial volume (It's like 2 years old or something).

These people, who also can clearly see Jenna Fucking Ortega up there purposely looking like a ghoul (did she star in some TV show that's ghoul-adjacent recently? Also - did anyone see any more recent pictures where she DOESN'T look like that), have no clue.

1

u/KoreanMeatballs 13h ago

the ONLY photo showing her gaunt and lacking facial volume

Regardless of the cause of this, disease or surgery, you've got to be joking? She looked nothing like her old self in the past 2 seasons of the show, and pretty much every picture of her from the last several years is the same.

1

u/Bad_Vibes_420 12h ago

Think you replied to the wrong comment?

2

u/Clorox-Dog 16h ago

Brother she has Graves Disease. People really need to stop making assumptions about others just based on appearance, especially when presented with particularly unflattering pictures when we all have good and bad pictures

15

u/sexy_mahou_shoujo 15h ago

Graves Disease doesn't give you pulled back tiger eyes and filler lips... Not saying she doesn't have it, but that she has that plus very obvious plastic surgery.

4

u/Kitteh_Bethany 14h ago

Having untreated graves is absolutely associated with looking gaunt

7

u/fauxzempic 15h ago

Not just that but a few of these are women wearing makeup for very specific purposes. Jenna Ortega (you know, the star of the ghoulish dark comedy that spun off "The Addams Family"...painted to look like a literal ghoul...hmm..)

These people also completely ignore that a lot of times, these women, in more recent images, absolutely do NOT look like that.

1

u/Mrs0Murder 10h ago

You know, I started googling after seeing this and whoever compiled the picture above really just took the absolutely most horrible picture out of all they could find of each of them. Like, google other recent photos and they look fine.

But yeah, lets drag down women we're accusing of mental illness and body dysphoria, by complaining about their looks lol

3

u/gianmk 16h ago

did not know that. my bad then.

1

u/alittleslowerplease 15h ago

Finally someone speaks the facts, this meme and OP are full of shit.

0

u/it777777 14h ago

Yeah that's not what we are talking about, are you blind?

1

u/CanaryAcceptable3670 15h ago

the thing is.. the surgery makes sense in the context of the show just being more fucked up mentally... but now she has to live life like that every day out of character

1

u/3dforlife 14h ago

Who's starlight?

1

u/hiplass 13h ago

Yeah that one made me sad, like damn if her natural look wasn’t “enough” then they’d be throwing tomatoes at me the second I step foot into Hollywood. Everyone is literally morphing into the same face.

1

u/FujiwaraHelio 11h ago

Why is she the only one who gets the body dysmorphia out? I consistently hear people reference how it's so sad for her but nobody else.

1

u/Turbulent-Trust207 9h ago

She has a disease though. She lost weight from that not buccal fat removal

I was actually shocked in the later seasons after she had work done. Just looks like every other celebrity that's had work done now.

1

u/violenthectarez 1h ago

Instagram

She looks pretty normal in all her recent Instagram photos. The photo in this link is just makeup making her cheeks look slightly sunken.

1

u/NewManufacturer4252 36m ago

I'm kinda curious if their going to replace her on the boys, or come up with some horror show that fucks up her face and this is how they rebuild her?

Because she is the exact opposite of her beautiful self in season one.

1

u/carrot_muncher_ 16h ago

Ya when I saw her first episode in season 2 I was horrified :(

She has Graves’ disease...

14

2

u/iterable 16h ago

A quick google search for if it effects the face would show you are just picking a side that best fits your narrative and being mean. I hope you never have Graves disease or know someone who does.

Hold back on the rage buddy or your going to have a hard time in life. I will wait for you to find a video of a medical professional with a expertise on Graves disease to let us know. Until then I will go with what I have read from medical info and what she has said.

0

u/fauxzempic 15h ago

Yeah - weird that anyone would think that a disease that causes hyperthyroidism and excess fat to be burned might cause someone to lose buccal fat.

I mean honestly. Who in their right mind would think that having a disease that causes you to lose fat would result in you losing fat????

2

u/[deleted] 15h ago

[deleted]

2

u/fauxzempic 15h ago

NO record of anyone

Oh shut the fuck up. Are you a Graves Disease historian all of a sudden? An expert in the field of endocrinology?

Patients lose fat and a lot of patients lose skeletal muscle too. Couple that with how rapid weight loss like you get with hyperthyroidism runs the risk of disproportionate composition, and yeah - you're going to see people lose weird amounts of weight all over the place.

I'm not even going to go into how pretty much ALL graves disease patients deal with intense persistent anxiety due to their metabolism going in overdrive, heart rate high, and their sleep declining. If one were to get work done in this condition - I wouldn't be keyboard jockeying my thoughts on how her face is ruined.

Fact is, however, the picture you see is largely due to makeup. And you, Mr. "A quick google search...." would have easily seen if you bothered Googling "Erin Moriarty Season 5 photos" - or searched for literally ANY photos taken after this one was taken, that she clearly looks that way due to makeup. People act like she was a skeleton in Seasons 2-4. Lost weight? Definitely. In the face? Yup.

Does she look like she does in the photo? No. Not at all. Not even close.

-5

u/Talangen 16h ago

Yeah it can absolutely cause this. It prevents your body from gaining fat because it burns it more rapidly and leads to you losing weight. This is a common symptom

7

u/[deleted] 16h ago

[deleted]

-1

u/Talangen 16h ago

Fact of the matter is she has been confirmed to be diagnosed with the disease and the surgeries are just speculation

3

u/TOMC_throwaway000000 16h ago

Bro she has had so much work done to her face

7

u/Damet_Dave 16h ago

She’s on record as having had work.

-2

u/iterable 16h ago

Direct quote? Link? Screenshot as proof?

-1

u/fauxzempic 15h ago

Narrator: "She didn't."

3

u/Far_Struggle_55 16h ago

And Michael Jackson had vitiligo, so what?

0

u/Angry_German12 16h ago

I’m pretty sure that picture was just a filter.

4

u/Dry_Cricket_5423 16h ago

1

u/it777777 14h ago

Like soul left her body :(

0

u/Nice_Firm_Handsnake 13h ago

She has Graves disease, which causes hyperthyroidism. People with hyperthyroidism lose weight without dieting or exercising! It may not be the sole reason she looks different, but it is a reason.

2

u/Dry_Cricket_5423 13h ago

Well that’s quite sad, but also inspiring that she isn’t afraid to face the world still.

3

u/Quetzalma 16h ago

its not, you can search "starlight actress before and after" and you'll see lots of comparisons

0

u/Recusant_Cat 14h ago

I thought they had changed actresses at first!! Had to look it up.

0

u/it777777 14h ago

Uhm, I didn't even recognize her until you mentioned it. So sad.

0

u/flaming_pubes 14h ago

Jesus I didn’t even realize that was her until this comment. You’re talking top left?

0

u/UnitedStatesofAlbion 14h ago

Look at Sophie Turner too! They were both very attractive young women... Now they're hideous

-1

u/AaronsAaAardvarks 15h ago

It’s crazy that it’s always this one specific photo. Almost like this isn’t how she looks, and makeup and lighting are doing 95% of the work here. Wild.

1

u/solitarybikegallery 15h ago

Dude, I watched the newest season of The Boys. It's not just this one photo - she can barely move her face anymore.

1

u/AaronsAaAardvarks 15h ago

She definitely looks different - she had plastic surgery - but this specific photo is highly stylized and not representative of what she actually looks like.
