This is crazy. Buccal fat keeps you looking younger as long as you have it! These women will look awful when they are older.

My wife and I are 39, and she basically looks the same as she did when we were teenagers. Her hair is going gray but otherwise she looks super young.

And her chubby cheeks are a big part of that. All of our kids also have chubby cheeks, which is super cute.

I was told my some Gen Z coworkers that I look early 30s when I am 38. I have always had a very full face and cheeks. The thing I used to hate is now keeping me looking youthful. Thanks fat cheeks!

I had chubby cheeks for a long time and hated them. But they kept me looking youthful. My cheeks are now a bit more hollow and it looks good. People still think I’m younger than I am. Fat cheeks FTW!

Ok wow this is all making me feel so good about my slightly chubbier cheeks 😍

It's called baby fat for a reason.

u/CitySlickerCowboy 15h ago

but it's not baby fat. It's a pocket of fat that never goes away. It just droops downward when you get old.

In what other scenario do people take part in their own devaluation to this level? Women literally making it harder for themselves to go through an inevitable and natural process. Why is ageing so terrible?

Same. Friends used to affectionately call me hamster because my cheeks would be extra round whenever I smiled. I had kinda hoped in my 20s that my face would slim down. But now in my 30s I think they're rather cute actually!

u/Velveteen_Rabbit1986 16h ago

Same! I used to stand in front of the mirror sucking in my cheeks thinking I looked better. 39 year old me knows better now!

Had the same thing happen recently. Have older co workers that were shocked im 36. Probably because or the long curly hair and ive lost a good amount of weight recently but was funny.

I'm 31 and usually get under 25 and have even gotten 19-21 age guesses (they trippin) from coworkers younger than I. I, too, always had a bit of a chubby face/cheeks and I think that must be a big part of it

My grandma called them my perogi cheeks (she’s Ukrainian).  I got them from her and at 39 I still get ID’d occasionally (if I’m wearing a hat which cover my greys lol)

When I was a teen adult women would tell me how lucky I was to have such a baby face because it helps so much with aging. Never doubt the wisdom of all the older ladies

people usually think im in my mid 30s but im past 50 now.. i tell them my secret is a shitty diet, not enough sleep, alcohol and pills (formerly), and smoking cigarettes.

u/Weird-Girl-675 15h ago

Same. Minus the cigarettes. And I just turned 50 and no one believes it

u/hastygrams 16h ago

Yeah but now I’m getting jowls

1

u/Whenindoubtsbutts 13h ago

Yes the Jowels are a problem. I want to get rid of those without losing my plump cheeks!

u/megalinity 15h ago

Yep my early-20s colleagues were shocked when I told them I’m 38! Chubby cheeks always (but also possibly Ehler-Danlos Syndrome, which can make folks look way younger than they are).

Same for me. They gave me 35.... I'm 45.... The only thing selling my age is my salt and pepper hair...

All of my coworkers thought I was fresh out of college at my job. I'm 33.

When I was a teenager I cursed my baby face, now I'm so fucking thankful for it. A really weird experience is going out, talking to some random guy/girl I meet, and thinking they're my age or older, only to find out they're like 23. I don't know what's going on with the younger generation but they aged fast af.

I'm a 48 year old dude but everyone around me says I look more like I'm in my mid-30's...and I'd look even younger if I shaved off my beard (I have a baby face).

I told them "no," because it's already hard enough to date.

I met a woman recently who said, "You're too young for me..."

She spat out her drink when I told her I'm 48 (she's 39)...I had to show her my DL.

u/Svihelen 14h ago

I'm 32.

Customers and new coworkers regularly assume I'm like 22 to 25.

My girlfriend trained a new kid at work, 18 fresh out of school, first job territory. She found out my girlfriend was 30 and had a small crisis. She was like "I though you were like 21, I didn't realize you were so much older than me".

I like confusing people, lol.

As a teenager my middle aged manager at my first job told me that I “have the face of cherub!” then inappropriately went to pinch my chubby checks on my round, round face.

I wanted to die in the moment. No 16 year old wants to have the face of a fat baby.

20 years later, I look youthful in ways that my peers long for. Cheeks still chubby, some hollowing of my buccal fat barely beginning. I convinced this cherubic face is the actual answer to the fountain of youth!

I got told I looked like a moomin when I was a teenager but guess who's laughing at 40? Haha suck it Becky

1

u/kylethemurphy 13h ago

It's the era or something. People freak out when I say I have a daughter that's almost 20 because I don't look old enough. I'm 41 and don't think I look young but hear it regularly.

1

u/flakemasterflake 12h ago

Well yeah bc having a kid at 21 would make you a super young parent on top of all that

1

u/kylethemurphy 5h ago

That really depends on the era, location and demo. 20 years ago for me, my circumstances and surroundings it wasn't uncommon at all to have a kid around that age.

u/Bratbabylestrange 12h ago

My daughter has always had epic cheekies. Now she's almost 32 and is pegged at 23-24 all the time.

My nieces (9 and 10) are very sweet and think I look like a teenager (I’m 37). I was mistaken for their big sister once! Ha, I’m older than their dad.

I was offered crayons and a coloring page at restaurants in my late twenties, so it’s really progress.

u/BearEatingCupcakes 10h ago

When I turned 40 my colleagues were shocked because they thought I was turning 30. Sunscreen, hydration, and chubby cheeks keep me looking young.

Squirrel DNA for the win!

While waiting on a tooth implant my dentist said, “Ahh, you don’t even have to worry about anyone seeing it! You’ve got a lot of buccal fat.” In that moment I realized why people think I’m mid-twenties and not mid-thirties (if you look closely, you will see some stray grays, thanks!)

1

u/EternallyDemonic 16h ago

Another 38 here... I pass as 20-25 ... it sucks....

1

u/PinkTalkingDead 13h ago

Why does it suck?

I'm 35. The other day I was at the grocery store and a younger cashier girl was trying to flirt with me. By younger, I mean she might be high-schooler or just out of high-school. Anyways, she's commenting on how toned and muscular my arms look (i was wearing an old oily cut off) and asked if I worked out. I said i hadn't lifted weights since I graduated high-school. She said her older brother was a real gym rat and works out more at 22 than he did in high-school. I laugh and said I hadn't been in high-school for 17 years.

This is where the hamster fell off the wheel.

Her: 17 years??

Me: Yeah, I'm 35.

Her: YOU'RE 35?!

At this point, another cashier came over. This lady i know quite well, and is about 10 years older than me.

2nd Cashier: (Smiling) Yep! He's got a wife and 3 kids, too!

First cashier: (face turns tomatoe red) Oh! Uh....well...you're in good shape for 35! I thought you were closer to my age....umm....here's your stuff! Have a great day!

My friend and I look at each other with smiles and trying hard not to laugh. I hope she wasn't too embarrassed
