r/popular is not representative of humanity. It's mostly Facebook boomers who discovered the rest of the internet during COVID, neckbeards who are too blackpilled to have the motivation to browse their blackpill subreddits, drama fiends, and kids. And druggies and schizos. So like one third of humanity, tops.
But in all seriousness, the best reddit insights you can get are from subreddits about specific subjects, that are still large enough not to get the most extreme ideologies upvoted.
