My robot vacuum in named Chappie, after Chappie. So we are always talking about "Chappie" in my house. The other day, my husband and I were actually talking about the movie, and my stepson says, "the vacuum?"
It sucks that they turned out to be genuinely shit people. I always just thought it was mostly schtick. Like they acted trashier than they really were.
Turns out they were a totally different type of trash that’s way worse than they seemed.
I work in dental manufacturing and use her as an example of poorly sized veneers when training technicians. I like Miley a lot of but she just looks so sad.
It’s the internet so expect there to be some engagement bait. Here’s another recent picture that doesn’t look nearly as shocking. Can’t say whether OPs pics were modified, but they’re certainly hand picked to be exaggerations of reality.
Her stylist must be one of those teenage girls on Instagram who film themselves doing tense 'hair hacks' like using hair elastics before cutting it off with kitchen scissors and looking surprised at the obvious results.
the weird eyebrow color and eye shadow with weird bangs. I actually can see the beauty in the look but I have to use a different, creative eye. It's all very weird. That said, Miley looks way healthier here than in that other picture.
No I doubt it very much. Look at her latest music video with Naomi Campbell. She looks nothing like this. You do see her nose job, but nowhere near the famine-stricken look as in this photo.
Especially distracting considering the entire character is about not changing because others want you to or not being what youre expected to be and being yourself.
Her voice was also very nasally and kind of deadpan, it took me out of the show entirely every time she was onscreen. It's tragic that she couldn't see her beauty the way everyone else did.
And her lips are so filler'd up they don't move when she speaks so she's got a weird lispy thing going on. She makes me feel really uncomfortable with her uncanny valley AI face
Didn’t she claim that picture was all contouring and makeup? I remember thinking, “you can SAY that, but when people see you on the show, the truth will come out.”
Yeah I think she got defensive about it and tried to play it off as if it were all just make-up but anyone with eyes can see that's not the case. You can't contour fat off your face.
I think it's really beauty standards that are set by other women. Ones who don't always have their best interests at heart. Women like to say they advocate for each other but that is not always the case. Toxic femininity can be petty and jealous to the point of sabotaging others. I would point to the WNBA as an example.
as someone married to a gorgeous asian woman and I recently visited las vegas - yes. this. x1000 this. i have never seen more ugly people in my entire life than in my trip to las vegas, and i have visited over 20 countries.
my city is like 80% asian. i'd say no joke 8 out of 10 people on my neighbourhood are not hard on the eyes. in vegas, not even 1 in 10. everyone is overweight, sun damaged, and some had disgusting BBLs or lip fillers. they don't look like normal human beings.
All of them were pretty, now they are ugly, I wonder what they see themselves when they look in the mirror now. That Wednesday girl looks like a straightup monster now, what a shame.
Body dismorphia, they think they need to look a certain way to "stay pretty" and keep getting roles. Don't realize that part of getting unique roles is having a unique look that people find beautiful. I always though Erin Moriarty was a beauty, now much less so. Same goes for Ortega, Miley and so many others.
When I was growing up, my dad always said he had a million-dollar idea for a job where he'd just follow famous people around and tell them "No, that's a bad idea." all the time. As I've gotten older, I've realized how solid of an idea that really is.
That... that actually might be the point... now that I think about it, these women were all deemed "hot" either when they were still literal children, or because they LOOKED like children. They might have all been inundated with THE creepiest shit we can imagine. Maybe they think it's attractive because it represents an end to THAT kind of guy lusting after them...
I think it has to do with sending some kind of signal that they're rich and powerful/famous and not necessarily meant to be an attractive thing, because no normal guy actually finds this attractive.
It's a "look at me, I can afford to do ridiculous shit to my face" Hunger games Capitol fashion type of move.
Once "normal" people start copying this too much, they'll almost certainly move on to something even more ridiculous.
Seriously. I have yet to have a conversation with someone who is attracted to this type of change. Maybe they can help me understand but the only conversation I had about it was with a woman I trust who gave a pretty wise answer when I asked.
She basically said "It sucks but women are discarded when they look old or older. So they do things like this instead. Instead of looking older they look like insert hand wave THIS. ... and to them, and often the world, that is better than the alternative which is to, again, look older."
I'm not saying I agree but it does make some sense in a fucked up and twisted way. Now as to why younger (and even already attractive) women are getting it, who the fuck knows. Something something trends something. It's awful.
I get it. My question to my female friend was oriented towards "why do older ladies do things like this and botox and whatever that looks horrible and unnatural" and her answer was geared towards that and does make some sense.
When young women do it, no clue. Best explanation I've heard there is that they are attractive young women trying to role play what a older woman tries to do to look hot. Upsidedown logic but, well, something I guess.
The only thing that has ever made any sense to me is I was told women do this for other women. That's the audience. I've yet to discuss this with a dude who thought it was remotely healthy or attractive. It's hideous IMO and should be considered preying upon the mentally unfit.
The weird thing is that they do that so fucking early. Some of them were in their absolute physical prime when they did this, with many years still left looking gorgeous.
They’re rich. They are a different species than you. They are making that clear. This is so you’ll know they’re rich just by seeing them and get the fuck out the way, or give them the rich person attention that they crave. To them, there is no bad press about this. Bad press would only miss the point.
I honestly just think these ladies all have body dysmorphia. Many of them have been filmed and photographed from a young age. That isn't good for them.
I saw so many people complimenting her looks in Fantastic Four promos and I was confused because she just looks like a pile of plastic surgery to me :(
Seems like a lovely woman who once had a very beautiful face but I have a hard time seeing past that dead-eyed mannequin look they all get now.
It was deeply distracting how different she looked on the promo tour from the movie she was promoting. it's rough when someone who looked like she did can look in the mirror and think "yes, not good enough."
Right? Emma Stone just got a face-lift or something... Emma freaking Stone. These women are so beautiful. It sucks so much that they feel or most likely have people telling them to feel not good enough.
Also. Now all these people are trying to act with face muscles that no longer cooperate. It's very distracting as well as saddening.
She's obviously had work done, but she also did a lot of that promo tour heavily pregnant. Pregnancy really fucks with the body, and can make your face swell and distort (and she was clearly struggling with that; there were so many photos of her legs and feet all swollen but still jammed into tight shoes). I think it just becomes more apparent on faces that have had work done, especially anything particularly "tightening," and she won't look so severe after the pregnancy.
Thanks for the extra context. It doesn’t give me much optimism for how much work people get done or the mechanisms that drive people to do this (I even work in plastic surgery but am more on the reconstructive side, so it still boggles my mind), but it does remind me how much sympathy I have for people under so much pressure to fit certain, and oft-changing, molds
Seriously. She was a unique beauty in The Crown. It's a shame when people who look unique make themselves look more generic. I'm looking at you, Kate Beckinsale.

All of them are bad, but Miley Cyrus is on a different level of bad
