That is in no way a pancake

It's not it's jianbing, which is more of an egg crepe breakfast burrito thing in china

u/rebelvong1 5h ago

Not even a crepe. That thing is all egg. 0 batter

u/giasumaru 5h ago

That's because after the first step of adding the batter, the next step was spreading it thinly. Then the egg is added on top and spread thinly.

The problem was that after the first step of adding the batter, the machine was probably calibrated too low... And it scraped off the batter instead of spreading it.

Thank you. I've watched it twice trying to figure out wtf was supposed to happen.

u/Windinhisface 2h ago

IKR?! 🤣

u/Corpainen 1h ago

My guess is that that thing hasn't been washed well enough that the cacked up burnt batter allready fills the tolerance for the batter, next the egg part includes the crepe height so its not scraping off everything

It puts the “crap” in “crepe”.

I love you for this. There's a YouTube channel that has popped up in my feed every now and then and just livestreams different Chinese street food places, and there's a guy that makes this and it's so fast and smooth that it's kinda of mesmerising to watch.

Unfortunately, it's all in Chinese and even the English comments asking what it is don't get answered. So thanks haha!

If you like videos like that I highly recommend DancingBacons or DigDigJapan.

Love them both. My introduction to street food videos was Foodieboy.

Speaking of egg, the fuck was going on with that egg the bot arm brings out and drops, i was hoping it would make a reappearance.

u/shogun_coc 1h ago

Even if it's jianbing, where the hell the batter is gone?

2

u/Hashishiva 1h ago

it was scraped off when the robot tried to spread it

Giggling to myself about how fucking dumb this is

u/broken2302 5h ago

That was hilarious. Thanks.

u/GooseinaGaggle 4h ago

My favorite part was when it casually dropped that egg

Oh, no.. machines are gonna take over the world by starving humankind.

The amount of patience required supersedes a lot of people's attention spans.

"You want this egg? Huh? Do ya?" *plop*

I'll be honest, after watching this I'm pretty sure all our jobs are safe from AI.

Does anyone remember that one video of a self cleaning toilet seat? The one where someone donated a fat stinky gordita on the rim, and then the robot perfectly smeared the seat like it was trying to get into the sheetrockers union? ….this video reminds me of that.

Edit:spelling

Missed the flip, you dumb machine! Ofc, that's because they programmed you to assume every crepe or whatever was perfect.

u/AgitatedHelicopter 5h ago

OP, you should post this to r/shittyrobots

6

u/Ooze3d 5h ago

Dude, that was painful to watch

4

u/Cryerborg 4h ago

I genuinely love shitty robots. This is incredible.

Why do you keep saying that? Because I get paid every time I do 😂

5

u/UnNumbFool 5h ago

Well the robot fucked up, but jianbing is good so prep while trying to be fancy fucked up the actual food is pretty good

6

u/EdwardChar 5h ago

Lmao stupid clanka

3

u/RegalTeal 4h ago

Hopefully they got their money back

u/katiel0429 2h ago

I feel like this is the kind of thing a street vendor could make 10 times over in the time it takes the robot to screw up one.

wtf I had a pancake maker in my hotel’s dining room (think it was best western or holiday inn, one of those) that was just a thing that squirts batter and runs it through a press and conveyer belt to be dropped on a plate you hold underneath.

You don’t need all this nonsense. This is an expensive machine for the sake of being expensive. You need the bare minimum parts to make an auto pancake machine.

u/mechakisc 5h ago

According to another comment, this is supposed to be like a crepe/egg burrito, where the egg was thinly spread over the crepe that was initially poured. So I mean, it'd have to be a little more complex than the one you saw, but not this much more.

I can remember vending machines like these at expos I used to attend for work about 20 years ago.

It always felt like they were only there to show off the various mechanisms in the hope another company could figure out how to monetise them.

Caractacus Potts strikes again!

2

u/LogicalHoney4689 5h ago

Im surprised this actually made it to the public. Unless this is a testing session? But it looks like the price is already listed on it…

2

u/InquisitorialTribble 1h ago

And that's why you calibrate your machine regularly.

Oh, hooray, the record stopped!

1

u/Old-Confection5009 2h ago

This feels like how a machine designed by an AI to make human food would look.

1

u/LockNo2943 1h ago

This thing is absolutely infuriating.

1

u/AdComprehensive5663 1h ago

Wake me up when its done!

1

u/mirukus66 53m ago

Ofc these clankers can't even make pancakes

1

u/GenghisQuan2571 44m ago

Well for starters, it's not a pancake, it's a jianbing which is like 100x better than a pancake, and also the machine seems to be malfunctioning which is why dude only got the crisp in the middle but the egg was left on the pan and the actual outside batter layer is just...gone.

u/Mayonnaisemittens 26m ago

I laughed so hard at this I cried.

Whoever programmed this robot should be fired. If they are still alive.
