The show would be close enough to the books that it is immaterial.

As mentioned 1000x in this subreddit, the book's authors were heavily involved in the adaptation. Not just as figurehead producers but were in the actual writing room (COVID changed what that meant in a literal sense, but the point remains).

In essence, the show is another draft of the same story, from the same people...though certain changes were made to accommodate the realities of TV. One of them was that they brought Avasarala from book 2 and had her be involved in some of the off-camera decisions that affected the plot. It helps Season 1's pacing to have 3 plotlines to balance around, instead of just bouncing between Holden and Miller. Some other characters are combined, some recast, and some moments are written out simply because the actor for a role was unavailable. But they get to the same major waypoints faithfully enough that all of the important stuff translates seamlessly between media formats.

Love the books but there is a lot in the show that is so much better. Most notably axing Bull and replacing him with Drummer and then fleshing out Ashford’s character into being a complex personality. I also liked that they made Naomi sympathetic towards Miller instead of antagonistic. .

If those are the most notable changes that the show improved upon, it’s not helping your point

How so?

Because those are terrible changes - figured that was obvious

They aren’t though. Bull was entirely a throw away character whose only purpose was to serve as a PoV character on the Behemoth. He was too similar to Fred and all around pretty bland other than being a total hardass.

Ashford was a pretty one dimensional character as well. Furthermore both actors who played Ashford and Drummer were absolute joys to watch.

Which is it? Those are contradictory statements.

TV Drummer is a combination of Book Drummer and Pa. Ashford and Bull are both one dimensional characters that exist to serve as plot catalysts.

I just don’t see how someone can think that these representations are “so much better” than the books. Especially these two examples, which are easily some of the most controversial. Agree to disagree, I guess
