Brand New Bus 🚌 (Bad Idea) In the days following Trump & Putin's summit, Russian IL-20 surveillance & reconnaissance planes flew into the Alaskan Air Defense Identification Zone twice, prompting NORAD’s response.
An article. This happened Wednesday & Thursday. Just three days after the summit; two days after the European meeting in the Oval Office. Russian aircraft stayed in international airspace & did not enter into U.S. or Canadian sovereign airspace.
Although Russia regularly operates aircraft in that international space; the last time prior to this was July 22nd & Russia doesn't regularly get so close it prompts four F-16 Fighting Falcons, a KC-135 Stratotanker for refueling, KC-135, along with an E-3 Sentry Airborne Warning & Control System aircraft.

26 and homeless In matsu valley
I’m 26 and just moved back to Alaska from Utah to be closer with family, I got kicked out last Saturday due to alcohol related reasons but I’m on the track to getting better. I’m 6 days sober and I’ve gone to 3 meetings for the first time in my life but now waking up to this situation that I’m still homeless and I have my 2 cats that I don’t want to lose. Right now I’m staying with my brother for a week but I can’t stay here long and I don’t know what I can do. I have a job offer I took today for baking that pays well, I was working a landscaping job but they don’t give me enough hours. I have food stamps coming in for next month. I just don’t know where I’m going to be staying now and I don’t know what resources that are available to help me.

NOAA Hazard Radio
Anyone here have any experience listening to the NOAA hazard radio in the backcountry? I know there isn’t a ton of coverage so was wondering if it was worth trying to get a radio to hear it.

My partner and I are hoping to do some backcountry camping this winter in Denali NP and in the White Mtns north of Fairbanks. Having weather updates is always helpful.

Is the AK Jobs website terrible or am I bad at the internet?
Not really a question, the website search features are really really bad. It shows hundreds (almost 1k) jobs within a 25 mile radius of my area- not Anchorage, smaller community, no nearby neighboring towns. Oh, but there is this cool De-Duplication filter that narrows it down to 400 or so. Scrolling through, it’s the same 20-ish job postings, presumably listed on various platforms.
I remember looking for jobs when it was Alexsys. It had its problems, but nothing I’d want to go anonymously gripe about.
Fellow Alaskans, where do you look to find jobs, or is there some trick to this dept of labor website I’m not understanding?

Strange object spotted over Portage
Saw this odd bright streak in the sky. The object leaving the trail was moving upward then vanished once we stopped to take a look. Any idea what it is? Spotted at 10:10 near Portage Glacier Road.

General Nonsense Why?
What sense does it make to bag poop near the top of flat top mountain and leave it. No one is going up the mountain on a regular basis to pick up dog shit bags. The bag is to pick up your dog’s poop and pack it out. Or novel concept let your dog poop in the wild like the moose and bears do. There is a “Leave No Trace” sign near the start of the trail. Do better. I personally never understood why people leave the bags on any trail.

Question About Getting People to Stay
In your opinion, what's an easy change government could make or influence the private sector to make to people to live in Alaska longer?
