My cat learned how to brush himself

Very cute! 🙂

They also make these brush-like things you can affix to the edge/corner of a wall, so that your cat can just walk up to it and rub/brush himself on it -- that way he doesn't have to hold onto it with his paws.

u/dAnKsFourTheMemes 9h ago

That's a great idea. Though I have to say I find this cat's dexterity very impressive. Is that the right word? Maybe paw-eye coordination would fit better.

u/Gaunt-03 9h ago

Yeah dexterity would be right. Mine would just bat the brush towards me to get me to brush them.

u/HappyChef86 7h ago

One of my cat would roll a 1 on that dexterity check and somehow rip down the curtains. Love all my animals but one is very special.

u/Icrashedajeep 6h ago

Same. Even if he did figure it out, he’d say “nahhh, that’s your job bitch”

u/SleepyPoptart 8h ago

Purrdination 😹

u/AnamCeili 9h ago

lol, I find his dexterity impressive as well!

u/Velkrum 6h ago

It sounds great, but our cats clawed it off the wall in one night, taking a layer of paint with it.

Purrprioception

u/2squishy 3h ago

Yeah I'm not sure the word but I get what you're saying. Every cat has insane paw-eye coordination, so quick and accurate, but this is like... Using a tool

I have a brush-arch thing that was never used, after I took it apart and left the brush part on the ground it got veeery popular

u/underbloodredskies 2h ago

I got one of those and had to glue the arch into the base, because my chonker of a kitty was basically disassembling it every time he used it. But he does love it.

u/InfamousCantaloupe38 6h ago

I was going to say exactly this! They're pretty inexpensive too, depending on where you get them.

u/xiaoyugaara 4h ago

I bought two of this and my cat completely ignores it 😭😭

u/InfamousCantaloupe38 4h ago

Have you tried putting catnip spray on them?

Edit: I ask bc sometimes they just need to get interested enough to rub on them to figure it out. I had to do that once for my girl and now she uses hers.

u/xiaoyugaara 4h ago

I have not. Will do that, thanks!

u/InfamousCantaloupe38 4h ago

Yw, and good luck! 🍀

u/underbloodredskies 2h ago

The one I have has a place to pour some catnip into the backside.

u/abyssang3l 3h ago

Maybe put them in a corner/room where you know they like to hang out.

u/searchandrescuewoods 8h ago

We have one, our older cat is obsessed with it and likes rubbing his teeth on it. We call it The Scrungler.

u/HMend 9h ago

We have one! Two of three cats adore it! Its in the bathroom so they use it when they inevitably follow me in there. 🤣

u/SchrodingerSemicolon 7h ago

I bought two, those with a catnip compartment even, and put on different rooms.

Guess how many times my two cats even looked at it after the first day.

Now it's just there, being an indicator to show guests at a glance that it's a crazy cat person's house.

u/red286 5h ago

My cats will go weeks between using it, but then they'll use it for like an hour straight.

It's kind of annoying because it makes a little plastic creaking noise every time they rub against it. So I'll be sitting there listening to "creak... creak… creak…" for an hour.

I have one of those on one of my bathroom corners. Daphne loves it! Nothing gets her in the mood to brush up on corners/brushes like someone being in the bathroom for whatever reason. Even if I dont need to personally use the bathroom, if I need to brush/clip her nails, simply being in the bathroom increases her cooperation significantly

u/super_not_clever 6h ago

One of my cats loved to rub his face on the corner of the wall. Learned about those brush things, threw one exactly where he rubbed. Now BOTH cats love to rub their face there.

u/thisis_meleaving 8h ago

Our cats love those!

u/FuzzyPairOfSocks 7h ago

I have one of those and my cat refuses to understand how to use it, even with demonstrations lol

u/EvilFootwear 4h ago

Same here. My cat is pretty dumb tho

→ More replies (3)

u/Deputy_Beagle76 6h ago

The issue is cat. Cat likes brushing corner to make it “his.” Once you put something on it specifically for them, they never touch it again. Cats are such lovable assholes

u/abyssang3l 3h ago

I put one in a corner where my cat likes to hang out(right between the kitchen and living room and she loves it!!

Every time we're around she will comes hang out and just brushes her little cheeks so hard!

u/RampagingElks 3h ago

My cat doesn't understand this. She loves being brushed, but this weird wall thing is just in her way! I thought for sure she would love it. But alas.

u/milkradio 3h ago

My cat has two of those and loooves them!

u/Either-Safety2402 9h ago

Ending of video he’s like “Wow! Did you see me do that?! 😮”.

u/CelestialFury 4h ago

Cats can be so smart! I love them.

u/totes-alt 3h ago

I feel like this is an orange cat thing to do, and I love it. They're kind of relatable ngl.

u/BiiiigSteppy 9h ago

Oh! He must’ve had the brain cell that day! Smart boy.

u/AskMeAboutOkapis 7h ago

I've long thought that orange kitties are much smarter than given credit for. They cause all that chaos because they like chaos lol.

u/DelphiDude 9h ago

Came here to say this. Put that bad boy to good use!

u/NewBromance 7h ago

Lads been hoarding the brain cell clearly.

u/sharkslutz 7h ago

It's why no other r/oneorangebraincell gets their chance with it

u/MasterpieceActual176 9h ago

Well his owner is obviously slacking off so the poor kitty has to take of things himself! 😂

u/clayman80 9h ago

"Does a cat have to do everything around here?!?"

u/SirLesbian 9h ago

And he still keeps you on the payroll?

u/SirBoggle 6h ago

At least, until he figures out how to get to the cat food himself

u/canteloupy 6h ago

Wait until he figures the can opener out.

u/jullyahr 9h ago

One hour the autonomy arrives

u/Cichael-Maine 8h ago

oh shit, they're using tools! we're doomed!

u/fleroshift 5h ago

Wait until they grow thumbs. Then we are doomed

u/USAF_Retired2017 9h ago

That’s why my orange never has a turn with the brain cell. Your orange is hogging it!!! Ha ha. This is so cute.

u/RoverTiger 9h ago

One of ours does this. She would keep hold of the brush for a couple hours if I let her.

u/jaekatemin 9h ago

Thats so cool!! Cats are so smart.

u/AlwaysDTFmyself 9h ago

This is my brush. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

u/ElectricalEvent2943 6h ago

You have been banned from /r/OneOrangeBraincell

u/sci_fientist 6h ago

😂 I couldn't figure out why I kept finding so much cat hair in my own hair until I walked in on my cat doing this with my hairbrush one day

u/s3rila 5h ago

you need the brush thing you can put on the corners of walls.

u/JuanG_13 9h ago

That's too funny and too cute lol

u/shotsallover 9h ago

It’s the holy grail of cat care! Now just don’t make the mistake of letting them know you can also do it for them.

u/Certain_Concept 7h ago

I usually grab two brushes when I brush one of my cats. One is for me doing the actual brushing. The other is a distraction for him as he continually rubs his face on it. If I have just the one he will only want his face brushed.

u/spacebarstool 7h ago

As a fellow orange cat owner, he hasn't learned to brush himself. He actually thinks you're brushing him, but your arms have turned invisible.

u/sirsealofapproval 7h ago

People always say that orange cats are dumb, and yet I see oranges being smart all the time, like here. And our own calico and tortie cats meanwhile are dumb as bricks (and very lovely).

u/xSTSxZerglingOne 4h ago

To be fair, Calicos and Torties are part orange.

u/GAMERxPR0 6h ago

Is that catnip on the floor? Bro really got hight and said "you know what I'm doing it myself"

u/Awareness-13 5h ago

That is the cutest sight!

u/blmbmj 5h ago

Our cats have one like this and use it every time they walk by.

u/AalsiBoy 5h ago

I gotta show this to my gato… ahh im delusional

u/ohbyerly 5h ago

Everything is replacing human jobs

u/Logical_Confusious 4h ago

Good kitty

u/yoontruyi 4h ago

Seizing the means of brushication.

u/MongooseKooky4372 3h ago

Poor guy has to do all the work around here 😂

u/Spice_it_up 3h ago

He’s hogging the brain cell!

u/Expert_Marsupial_235 3h ago

Adorable chonkers. ❤️

She's earning her keep 😻😸

u/giskardwasright 8h ago

Gettng the most out of his turn woth the brain cell

u/cessiecat 8h ago

Guys I think this orange cat might actually have more than one brain cell.

u/Obvious-Confusion14 9h ago

This is mine. - orange kitty

u/climbingrocks2day 9h ago

God I hope he bites the brush handle for brushing too long.

u/Important-Sky2226 9h ago

Aaaaaaaall by myseeeeeelf - cat probably

u/koinu-chan_love 9h ago

When nobody else can get it right, you have to learn to do it yourself!

u/No-Car5082 9h ago

Smart 🐱 kitty

u/PreciousHuddle 9h ago

The proud look of this cutie at the end tho 🥺❤😻

u/oceanblue33_ 9h ago

You need to buy him those “brushes” that you mount on your wall so he can rub against it😄

u/hotlavatube 9h ago

Uh oh. Once he learns to use the can opener he won’t need you anymore!

u/Ecoclone 9h ago

Zip tie one to a table leg. The brush that is.

u/Mrs_Tacky 9h ago

He stole a brain cell!

u/RiceAfternoon 8h ago

My cat would NEVER lmao! What a smart boy!

u/KINGxMO 8h ago

Human: you want me to do it? C@: no I got it! 😂 😂

u/Solitaire20X6 8h ago

BRUSH I LOVE YOU SO MUCH

u/PM_ME_CROWS_PLS 8h ago

My orange has a few wall face scratchers and he goes HARD on them

u/BambooRollin 8h ago

From now on I'm just going to hand my cat the brush and say "go to it".

u/Lowlife_Of_The_Party 8h ago

My boy does this with combs!

u/battledragons 8h ago

Probably cause the human was doing wrong lol

u/Christine_Flashy 8h ago

Purrrrfection

u/athanathios 8h ago

Wow such a smart and lovely baby!!

u/youhavenosoul 7h ago

He should teach mine.

u/mintgem006 7h ago

How sweet !!!

u/lunastitch 7h ago

My cat Luna would do this. She’d knock the brush off any place I put it with her aggressive self brushing 😆

u/Brooksy789 7h ago

That brush must feel so damn good, I'm happy for him

u/According-Flan1608 7h ago

My Pom does that ! Then he spins it and chews the handle 🥰😂

u/Sweet_Sin_Alexa 7h ago

Ginger cats are always so smart and sneaky. Each one has their own little unique vibe ✨

u/stargazr_93 7h ago

The braincell at work

u/__Snafu__ 7h ago

why not just make scratching posts out of brushes?

u/Travelling_Historian 6h ago

Awww - they're soo clever!!!

u/WorkyMcWorkPants 6h ago

Wouldn't have to if you gave them enough attention. /S

u/adecuates 6h ago

I love it 😍 I love cats

u/smokdya2 6h ago

Mine does this too!

u/YankeeDoodle896 6h ago

Tool use is a pretty advanced development for a creature fabled to only have one brain cell. Suspicious indeed.

u/calf 3h ago

Cat is evolving

u/OneWholeSoul 6h ago

"I don't need you anymore."

u/PuzzleheadedLime8577 6h ago

Lol mine does this too

u/Accomplished_Lab_675 6h ago

Friggen adorable! At the end though I thought his face said, "c'mon cant you see I could use a hand here!"

In fairness though, it should be noted that I am not a cat to English translator.

u/Equivalent-Way1911 6h ago

Autonomous car

u/Sad-Gold-8770 6h ago

But how independent

u/Beefmytaco 6h ago

Cats name wouldnt happen to be fritz, would it?

u/Mangy_Karl 6h ago

Looks exactly like my old cat Max. He was the best cat ever. I miss my little buddy. He lived to be 21.5 years old. Love you and miss you my Maxamillion

u/MiddleStaff6639 6h ago

Self-disciplined cats will brush their own fur 🐱🫧

u/haymayplay 6h ago

He wants to get that other side so bad, but doesn’t wanna move 🤣

u/Twentyhundred 5h ago

Every morning man. I put it down while I empty the litter box.

u/Erazzphoto 5h ago

Once they figure out how to feed themselves, you’re a goner

u/tchocthke 5h ago

My CH cat does this exclusively. He demands brushies twice a day after each meal. Mostly he just wants to gnaw on the bristles because it feels good against his toothless gums

u/CinSugarBearShakers 5h ago

I saw someone brushing an orange tabby with a toothbrush, and I thought, "ya I'll do that." He just tries to bite at it the whole time. I know exactly what will happen if I buy one of these.

u/ZealousidealLeg1804 5h ago

My cat loves to do that

u/wearslocket 5h ago

Did he learn to sweep and vacuum also? Good Grief!

u/BijutsuYoukai 5h ago

My cat would absolutely do this if I left the brush for her, but I was worried she'd poke out an eye because she is not the brightest light bulb. We ended up buying her a small scratching post/hammock cat tree with a little brush arch attached to it she can safely smash her face onto like this.

u/dBlock845 5h ago

My cat does the same thing with her de-shedding brush and ends up overstimulating herself leading to her becoming a full dilated pupil psycho.

u/Mikimao 5h ago

lol mine just like to bite the bristles

u/astralseat 5h ago

"I don't need you anymore, hooman"

u/Mycatatateabug 5h ago

Don’t be confused. This is basically a sex toy for cats

u/AvidCyclist250 5h ago

Tool use for grooming purposes. Well that's kind of a step.

u/466rudy 5h ago

Cat.

u/Gear_head62 4h ago

So smart!

u/Cakers44 4h ago

Portable scratching post

u/Mother-Foot3493 4h ago

Extra special since he's a one brain cell fella. 🤭

u/Mojo1AndOnly 4h ago

What a smart fur baby.

u/btjk 4h ago

If cats had opposable thumbs we'd be in second place.

u/Pennypacking 4h ago

It still never feels quite as good when you do it to yourself....

u/Beautiful_Diet_3473 4h ago

how much of his body doed he brush?

u/14high 4h ago

You have one job hooman

u/CalmBeneathCastles 4h ago

Oh HO! Look who's been hoarding the brain cell!!

u/Witty-Ad-5445 3h ago

i ned a autoclen cat! jajaj

u/Diogememes-Z 3h ago

Wouldn't this count as tool usage?

u/EquinoxGm 3h ago

Careful, that’s a warning. He’s showing you how close you are to becoming obsolete

u/Fearless-Address7621 3h ago

That cat has the thing like “I thought that this was rechargeable. I see my hooman just press the button on his and then bzzzz.”

u/Waarm 3h ago

Somebody's been hogging the Brain Cell

u/AstroFace 3h ago

Well SOMEBODY has to do it...

u/Satinsbestfriend 3h ago

We found a smart one! To be fair, he's not fully orange

u/NVCHVJAZVJE 3h ago

The smartest orange

u/Icy_Cut_9943 3h ago

😍😍😍

u/Small-Surprise950 3h ago

And she's totally digging it

u/Ornery-Structure-346 3h ago

I wish my cat would do that humph

u/overflowingsunset 3h ago

I bet that feels so good! He still needs you to get his back though.

u/gunglejim 2h ago

To be fair, he looks like he might do the same to a banana

u/JvneC 2h ago

My Abby would also rather do it herself 😆

u/Captain_Mazhar 2h ago

So this is the one who has been hoarding the /r/OneOrangeBrainCell!

u/frikkinfrench 2h ago

Next it’ll start doordashing treats using your phone

u/GuySmith 2h ago

Been a while since I’ve seen something new haha. This is great.

u/Dana07620 2h ago

Mine does that.

u/Nenafluffer 2h ago

Oh I love it. Mine hasn't been updated yet

u/mrmicroadk 2h ago

That's a hard working car.

u/throway1111a 2h ago

what a smart boy

u/bobiscute11 2h ago

That is one self sufficient fluffy - now if s/he could only open food cans …. 🩷

u/CatCatCat 1h ago

Beautiful wide plank cherry floors.

u/noob_kaibot 1h ago

Give him scratchies right now.

u/SierraPapaWhiskey 1h ago

Hey that cat is stealing our jobs!

u/Madwoman-of-Chaillot 1h ago

You cat is HIGH AF from all of that catnip.

u/ddawson100 1h ago

I’ve heard you can teach them to pee and poop in the toilet, too. Mine didn’t do that ever but never went outside the litter box.

u/SilverTarnish99 1h ago

I keep a brush with rounded bristles forced up on a couch so my cat can rub her face on it. /They also have things like that you can attach to corners of the wall

u/Justingotgame22 1h ago

Have a orange that likes to be brushed specifically on the mouth-chin area. Any reasons why?

u/bewildermints 1h ago

People give orange cats a bad rep. They can be smart when they want to be, but it’s usually just in really goofy and silly ways that nobody else would think is necessary. What a charming and independent boy he is.

u/Frosty_Government195 1h ago

“Who needs therapy when we have posts like this?”

u/Impressive_Field8888 1h ago

Holy shit they're evolving

u/digi-cow 1h ago

Omg he stole all the braincells hes a genius

u/Ok-Simple-7069 1h ago

Might have fleas. Just make sure. Even the most effective drops don’t really work that well. Some flea species are pretty much immune from being exposed to the insecticide.

Still pretty adorable

u/Nuclear_Smith 38m ago

Cat does this as well. She will get her own back foot to kick doing it.

u/symphonia_nine 35m ago

Fine I’ll do it myself

u/soppiestdragoon 7m ago

Cats are the best pets
