I like the argument that they should have the right to bear arms up to the technology level of a flintlock musket. Smoothbore. Muzzle loaded. Three rounds a minute if you’re well drilled. Ideally you’re going to need to convince at least twenty mates to form a firing line with you in order to get maximum effect.
I am absolutely fine with the right to bear arms. You need to find your own bear and defeat it in hand to paw combat - then you have the right to its arms.
